Chapter 16 Pager

As a tabby cat with great speed, jumping ability and almost maxed out dodge, Yun Jian is more accustomed to close combat methods such as sneak attacks and stabbing. But now he has Yan Anqing protecting him behind him, so he can only abandon his advantages and bite the bullet to fight the enemy head-on.

He pressed his right hand on the belt and activated the special super shield made by the Twenty-Eight Mansions. While feeling sorry for his contribution points this month, he fired bullets at the super-powered criminals as if they were free.

The bullet, which carried a powerful shock wave, pierced through the super-powered man's chest, but there was no blood splatter as expected. The super-powered man's body became weak for a moment, and the next moment, it split into two individuals, rushing towards Yun Jian from the left and right sides respectively.

This person's superpower should be similar to the shadow clone, and the split body can also bear the damage instead of the original body. Yun Jian came to the conclusion instantly, and was extremely glad that he had courses specifically targeting various superpowers in his training at the Twenty-Eight Mansions.

The super-powered man rushed to a position half a meter away from Yun Jian and suddenly stopped. Both of them opened their mouths, as if they wanted to say something.

Yun Jian, who was observing the two almost identical super-powered bodies on the left and right, quickly determined which one was the real one based on this fact. He then decisively stretched out his hand, and sharp steel claws popped out from his fingertips, striking directly at the neck of the super-powered person on the right.

The super-powered person on the right was unable to dodge and had his throat pierced by the sharp claws.

A wound suddenly appeared on the throat of the super-powered person on the left. He struggled unwillingly for a few seconds, and then exploded into ashes.

Yun Jian, who had withstood the strong shock wave after the explosion, still stood straight, as if the bloody wound on his arm did not exist. He watched expressionlessly as the shadow clone of the super-powered man dissipated into the air. Then he retracted his steel claws, took out a bottle of emergency treatment spray from the space expansion device on his sleeves, sprinkled it on the super-powered man's neck, and handcuffed his wrists with silver handcuffs.

All this happened in a flash. The other super-powered person hadn't even prepared his own ultimate attack. When he saw his companion being subdued in a few moves, he realized with horror that he had provoked someone he shouldn't have provoked. He turned around and ran frantically towards the exit of the commercial street.

...

...

Considering Yan Anqing's safety, Yun Jian did not chase him, but quietly left a trace of mental power on him, preparing to track him down after sending Yan Anqing home.

All the major super-powered sects hid in their hideouts and were as quiet as chickens, fearing that any noise would attract the hatred of the tabby cat that was angered by the horn. From then on, the journey was smooth and Yun Jian successfully returned to Yan Anqing's house. He put him on the ground and turned away.

"Hey, wait a minute," Yan Anqing said quickly, "Let me bandage your wound."

Yun Jian was still holding an unconscious criminal in his hand and didn't want to stay here. Moreover, he didn't plan to let the identity of the tabby cat have too much contact with Yan Anqing: "No, I can handle it myself. Don't do this kind of thing again in the future."

Yan Anqing pursed his lips tightly.

He seemed to want to apologize, but after a long while he was unable to utter a single word. He stood there with his neck stiffened. In the end, he chose the method he was more familiar with: "How much is the medical bill? I'll transfer you twice the amount."

Yun Jian rubbed his eyebrows.

If he wasn't familiar with Yan Anqing's character, he would definitely hang him upside down by the collar on a tree in the yard for the whole night to see if this guy dared to do anything stupid again.

"No medical expenses. Didn't you ask me to promise you two things before?" He didn't want to spoil Yan Anqing, so he simply said, "I delayed my patrol time and asked for leave to come to you, and I was attacked by criminals because I showed up alone. It's not too much to offset one thing, right?"

Yan Anqing took a deep breath and suddenly felt heartbroken.

But he did not refute, but nodded sullenly. After a pause, he felt that his behavior was really uncool, so he raised his chin and added: "Offsetting is your decision, and paying the medical expenses is my decision. Since your decision is valid, then my decision should also be valid--"

Before he could finish his words, Yan Anqing, who was walking backwards, tripped over his schoolbag on the ground. Yun Jian reached out to support him, so he did not fall directly to the ground, but fell onto the sofa with a thud.

Yun Jian picked up the schoolbag helplessly and put it on the stool next to him. He glanced at the corner of the golden trophy that was exposed from the zipper and took it out in surprise: "You won a prize? Wow, the second prize at the national level, amazing!"

Yun Jian, who had known that Yan Anqing had participated in the National Oil Painting Exhibition, inadvertently revealed a bit of familiarity and happiness when praising him, and looked very happy. He himself did not notice that Yan Anqing was stunned in place, looking at him with a complicated look.

"Since you won the prize, I won't bother with you this time," Yun Jian shook his cat's tail, reluctant to use the emergency treatment spray that he had exchanged for with a lot of points. He took out a roll of bandage from his belt and hastily tied his arm a few times. "This is for you, as a gift for congratulations."

He threw the purple-black square box in his hand to Yan Anqing, waved his hand backwards, and jumped out of the window lightly.

Yan Anqing stared at the half-open window in a daze for a moment, then his gaze returned to the square box. He drew a circle along the gilded lines on the surface of the box, and saw that the box opened automatically, revealing a bracelet-shaped pager inside.

Next to the pager was a piece of paper with two lines of small print on it.

Don't call me during the day, I'm sleeping.

Don't call me at night, I have to work.

Yan Anqing suddenly laughed out loud, shook his head, and carefully put the pager on his wrist.

[Didn’t you say that this vest wanted to distance himself from Yan Anqing? Why did you give him a pager?]

Cat Toy asked in confusion.

"I know Yan Anqing," Yun Jian jumped between tall buildings and quickly ran in the direction of the 28 Mansions. He answered it casually, "Do you want to make a bet with me? Unless he is in real danger, he will never use the pager to send me a message."

The cat toy hummed and was about to say that it was not familiar with Yan Anqing and would not participate in such a losing gamble, when it heard the communicator hanging on Yun Jian's waist beep, and the ten big words "Received a new message from Yan Anqing" were displayed on the screen.

[Yeah, you lose!]

Cat toys cheer.

He was slapped in the face just after he finished speaking. Yun Jian scratched his cat ears in frustration, stopped above the arch corner of the central pavilion in the street park, took out the communicator to check the message.

These are two very short sentences.

"I'm sorry about what happened today. If there's anything I can be of help to you, or if you need to rest at my house to avoid those super-powered criminals, just come over."

Yun Jian's eyes widened: "This doesn't count as valid information! I didn't lose!"

[You lose!]

The tabby cat and his cat toy were bickering with each other, while he was holding a super criminal by the back of his collar. He crossed half of Sufang City with full energy and came to the Nangong group who were fighting the hellhound.

Thanks to the super-powerful dog restraint cages that Donggong had urgently developed, Tang Aibai and the others were able to fight with ease even when Yun Jian was not around. There were five cages piled around them, filled with hellhounds that were grinning and growling madly.

Yun Jian didn't even open the cage door. He flicked out his sharp claws and neatly dispatched the hellhounds. Then he rushed into the encirclement of Team Nangong and drove away the last hellhound that was being beaten. Only then did he stop and happily waved the head of the super-powered criminal he was holding: "Captain Tang! Look what I brought back!"

Tang Aibai inexplicably felt as if his pet cat had gone out for a stroll and brought back a mouse to claim credit.

He shook his head to get rid of this weird association, carefully observed the face of the super-powered criminal, and raised his eyebrows: "Is it him?!"

Perhaps the shock in his tone was too obvious. Peng Hua, who was stealing biscuits nearby, and Qiao Liang, who was bandaging Yun Jian, both looked over. The latter looked bewildered, while the former suddenly realized after a brief thought: "I remember now, this is someone from the Cat God Sect, and he was on the Twenty-Eight Mansions High-Level Wanted List!"

Yun Jian was caught off guard by the familiar name and his brain short-circuited for a moment: "Wait, what sect?"

"Cat Cult," Tang Aibai frowned, turned around and led the team back to the headquarters, and whispered, "Did you know that there was a major earthquake in Sufang fifty-three years ago?"

Yun Jian nodded.

As a native of Sufang, how could he not know about the earthquake that almost destroyed most of Sufang? What's more, Cat Toy had mentioned to him not long ago that the so-called earthquake was actually the evil result caused by the Super Power Sect, and it was stopped by the Cat God that prevented a greater tragedy.

Could it be that because the Cat God displayed great power during that disaster, he was taken as an object of faith by sects that pursue power?

"Everyone in the super power world knows that it wasn't a natural earthquake at all, but a spell cast by a powerful cat ghost," Tang Aibai glanced at him, and seeing Yun Jian's shocked expression, he paused and continued, "Later, the cat demon was sealed in a formation a thousand meters underground in Sufang City by the super power world. The situation calmed down, but it also gave birth to a group of crazy people who believed in cat ghosts. They called the cat ghost who slaughtered tens of thousands of people with an earthquake the Cat God, and called themselves the Cat God Sect."

Yun Jian's heart was in turmoil.

He couldn't help but want to ask the cat toy, but he knew that now was not a good time. He paused for a moment and tried to maintain his composure: "Cat ghost?"

"That cat ghost is in human form, with cat ears and a cat tail," Tang Aibai knew what Yun Jian wanted to ask, "Based on appearance alone, it is indeed similar to you. That's why you didn't encounter any superpowers in the first few days when you appeared in Sufang City."

Those sects all believed in keeping themselves safe, so how could they dare to test a person who was suspected to be the boss who almost destroyed Su Fangcheng single-handedly. It was not until Yun Jian knocked out the super-powered criminal and sent him to the police station that the major sects realized belatedly that he was not a cat ghost.

Even the Twenty-Eight Mansions only gave Yun Jian a certain degree of convenience and trust after they urgently checked the seal of the Cat Ghost and confirmed through surveillance videos and frequent contacts that Yun Jian's abilities and personality were completely different from those of the Cat Ghost.

"This guy should be sent by the Cat God Cult to contact you," Tang Aibai analyzed, "They probably mistook you for the Cat Ghost or the Cat Ghost's subordinate, and deliberately picked a time when you were alone to find you - didn't they say anything to you?"

Yun Jian was silent.

Thinking back on it, it seemed that this guy really hadn't attacked me from beginning to end. Even my injuries were caused by the explosion after the guy's superpowers were broken.

So he didn't actually have to fight this one?!

The author has something to say:

Yun Jian: I’m happy that my good friend won the award.

Yan Anqing: Why was Lihua so pleased to see me win the award? Did he really think of me as his cat owner? (Thinking.JPG, and decided to buy a few more boxes of cat food online)
