Chapter 2 Tabby Cat

At 5:30 in the morning, the shrill alarm woke up the sleeping high school students.

Yun Jian turned over in a daze, reached out and felt around the bedside table, then he remembered that he didn't have an alarm clock at all.

"Cat toy? Stop singing, stop singing, you're out of tune," he muttered in frustration. Unable to hit the cat toy, he could only knock his head and try to shrink into the quilt. "Let me sleep for another five minutes, I'll be up soon."

He tightened his arms, hugged the fluffy kitten, and buried his face in its soft belly. After a while, he suddenly realized that something was wrong. He opened his eyes suddenly, lifted the quilt in horror, and stared at the cat that appeared inexplicably in his arms.

"Where did this cat come from?!"

Seeing that he was getting ready to get up, Cat Toy stopped singing, cleared his throat, and answered him happily.

[This is the tabby cat body I made using the pieces of your body you obtained yesterday. The following is your vest as the messenger of the cat god.]

Yun Jian curiously reached out and touched the tabby cat. It felt soft and smooth. Apart from being overly well-behaved, it looked like a real little kitten taking a nap. "How do I control it? Should I use a handle and a display like I do in a game?"

[This is just a cat shell without a soul. If you inject your spiritual power into it, it is equivalent to transferring part of your soul into the body of the tabby cat, just like you control your own body.]

Nodding as if he understood, Yun Jian picked up the tabby cat and was eager to try. However, it was almost time to go to school, and the voices of his parents calling him for breakfast were getting louder and louder. He had no choice but to quickly hide the cat in the closet, and ran out while putting on his school uniform.

...

...

Without cat ears and a cat tail, he no longer had to wear a hat to cover himself up, and the stress of school life dropped dramatically.

After arguing with Yun Jian for several days about not allowing him to wear a hat, the dean in charge of checking hygiene and discipline even came to their class during the morning self-study session and took a close look at Yun Jian's head. Not seeing any dyed hair or earrings, he left with satisfaction. Before leaving, he stroked his hair vigorously and said, "Dyed it back? That's right! You're a student, why do you want to dress so fancy!"

Yun Jian: “…”

He sighed depressedly, pretending not to hear the grunting laughter of his friends behind him, and lowered his head to continue working on the last big question on the physics paper.

The academic discipline in Sufang No. 1 Middle School is very strict. Yun Jian has been promoted to the second year of high school this year. The evening self-study classes from Monday to Saturday last until after nine o'clock in the evening. By the time school is over, it is already dark. The bright moon hangs high in the sky, shining on the parents who are preparing to pick up their children at the school gate.

Yun Jian lives nearby, only separated from the school by a street a dozen meters long, so he doesn't need his parents to pick him up. He usually chats with his classmates and walks home leisurely.

However, his mission today does not stop there.

[Hurry up! I can sense the hellhounds again! We can’t let them stay in the human world for too long!]

Perhaps because the cat toy was tired from pinching the cat shell all night, it was exceptionally quiet. It was completely different from the non-stop chattering it had been doing in the past few days when it was trying to persuade him to go out at night. It even gave Yun Jian the illusion that it didn't exist at all.

So when it suddenly screamed in his mind, Yun Jian was really scared.

When the bell rang, Yun Jian quickly stood up, picked up his schoolbag and ran out, passing by his head teacher who was about to enter the classroom with a lesson plan.

[Hellhounds are contagious.]

Cat toys make a sad sound.

[If they come into contact with ordinary dogs, they will also become hellhounds - they are certainly not as strong as real hellhounds, but there are a lot of them, and it is very dangerous if they appear in groups. And they cannot enter hell, and once they are infected, they will die.]

After listening to popular science lectures about the harmfulness of hellhounds along the way, Yun Jian was already sweating profusely when he rushed home. Without even saying hello to his parents, he rushed straight back to his room and took the tabby cat out of the closet.

"How can I inject my own spiritual power?"

[Close your eyes.]

Yun Jian lowered his eyes as he was told and waited for a moment. Suddenly, a cold wind blew over his head, as if he was covered with a layer of vaporized wind oil. His whole body felt numb. When he opened his eyes again, he couldn't help but "meow".

"Meow, meow—cough cough meow!" After trying several times, the tabby cat finally spoke in human language, "This cat's form is so weird, I can't even walk anymore, meow."

[The tabby cat has a human form. If this is inconvenient, you can transform into a human form.]

As soon as the words fell, the tabby cat jumped forward and the whole cat quickly stretched out.

Yun Jian looked at the round mirror beside the table, looking at his current appearance in surprise.

His skin was a caramel-like light brown, and his pale blue cat-like pupils looked mysterious and eerie. His messy short black hair had a few strands of gray highlighted on his forehead, making him look like a rebellious pretty little monster. His round almond-shaped eyes added a hint of innocence and cuteness to his overly fierce appearance.

"With such good looks, she can debut in the entertainment industry directly," Yun Jian couldn't help but sigh, "She's so beautiful, meow."

[Don’t admire it, let’s get down to business!]

Cat Toy couldn't help but urge him.

Yun Jian nodded, turned out his black shirt and black pants and put them on, then controlled his real body to walk to the bed and lie down - it felt a bit like doing two things at once, although it was easy to get stuck when controlling two bodies at the same time, as long as he focused on one of the bodies, he could complete a series of actions smoothly.

"Since I'm a tabby cat, I'll be called Lihua from now on," he named the vest with great interest, turned around and picked up the small water gun in the cabinet, ready to jump out of the window directly, "This way I can distinguish myself from the main body, and the possibility of being exposed will be much smaller."

[Wait, don't take the holy water.]

Cat Toy suddenly spoke.

[The amount of holy water is limited. You couldn't do it yesterday, but now you have to get used to using your own strength to fight the hellhound.]

Yun Jian hesitated for a moment.

He was thinking about asking what kind of power the cat toy had, but as soon as he thought of this, sharp steel claws suddenly popped out from his fingertips, flashing a cold light. He tried to scratch the edge of the table, without using much force, but he made a groove several centimeters deep.

"Wow," he retracted his hand, and the steel claws instantly retracted. He raised his hand again, and the steel claws suddenly popped out, like a cat's retractable nails. "Do you think I would be stopped by security if I took a plane with this body? Does this count as carrying dangerous items?"

What kind of a question is this? Cat Toys was speechless and simply ignored it.

[This body is fused with the fragments of the cat god's flesh body. Although it does not have the magical superpowers of the soul fragments, its combat strength is very strong. Not only does it have diamond claws, it can also fly over eaves and walls, and it has the innate talents of the tabby cat.]

"Flying over eaves and walls, it turns out this cat can do Qinggong," Yun Jian tried jumping on the spot, and his head hit the ceiling. He covered his head with his hands with a cry, "What is that innate skill?"

[Innate skill - the skill of catching mice. Whenever you encounter a mouse, you will be able to catch it with 100% success.]

Cat Toy said seriously.

After saying this, it stopped talking, obviously waiting for Yun Jian to praise this innate skill.

Yun Jian changed the subject: "Should we go and drive away the hellhound? Sense his location again."

Business is important. Cat Toy quickly projected a panoramic view of Sufang City into Yun Jian's mind. There were four or five red dots marked on the map, which were the places where hellhounds existed.

"So many?" Yun Jian was shocked. He didn't bother to chat anymore. He opened the window and jumped down. He stepped lightly on the air conditioner outdoor unit at the bottom of the building. Then he jumped a few times, moved back and forth between the floors, and soon disappeared into the night.

Every time he jumped, he could cross a distance of dozens of meters. No matter where he looked, he could land there accurately and easily. Even the midnight breeze seemed to be supporting his body. The journey was smooth, like a free-flying bird. Yun Jian couldn't help cheering.

"Catman Lihua, charge meow!"

It landed silently, and its sharp claws swept across. The hellhound, which was looking for a target, had its neck cut by a claw before it could bite a passerby, and turned into lead-gray mist and scattered.

Yun Jian pinched his metal claws and pondered for a moment.

[When the human forms of these hellhounds are broken up, they will automatically return to hell. Unless their real bodies are killed, they will not die.]

Cat toys help him get rid of his worries at the right time.

[Also, not all hellhounds are so weak, but the gate to hell is only open a crack, and most of those who can sneak into the human world are weak soldiers. You must improve your strength as soon as possible, otherwise once a stronger hellhound appears, it will be difficult to defeat it with your current strength.]

"So the Cat God is dealing with the real body of the Hellhound?" Yun Jian nodded and asked curiously, "Once the real body of the Hellhound is destroyed by the Cat God, will my mission be over?"

The cat toy said nothing.

It was not until Yun Jian ran through the city, drove away all the hellhounds, and carried the passers-by who were almost bitten by the hellhounds back to the street lights, and finally hurried home yawning, that it slowly opened its mouth.

[Although the chance of getting the Cat God fragment is relatively small, when the Hellhound passes through the Hell Gate, it will be stained with some of the Cat God's power. After you disperse it, these powers will automatically attach to you and slowly increase your strength.]

Yun Jian could tell that it didn't want to answer the previous question, so he considerately didn't ask any more questions, but continued with what it was saying: "So Li Hua will become even stronger?"

[It's not just the detachment, it also includes your mental strength. You've been up all night, but you're not sleepy at all. Don't you find it strange?]

"I'm usually quite energetic when I play with my phone all night," Yun Jian muttered quietly. He actually understood what Cat Toy meant. He looked up and saw the outline of the rising sun faintly appearing in the sky. So he took a deep breath, jumped to his balcony in a few steps, opened the window and went in. "This is good. At least I won't be so sleepy that I fall asleep in the classroom during the day."

He turned back into a kitten, and all his consciousness returned to his original body. Then he jumped out of bed, carried the cat into the closet, washed the black clothes piled on the floor and hung them outside the window, then he lay back in bed to catch up on his sleep.

He had a feeling that this schedule would become the norm in his life for a long time to come.
