Chapter 21 "Squeamish, do you have any medicine?"

"Squeamish, do you have any medicine?"

Jiang Henian almost blurted out "Yes", but fortunately he braked suddenly, it was not good to say it in front of others!

She pursed her lips, shook her head, and acted pitifully.

He Jinshan frowned slightly and glanced around the barren house.

He reached out and pulled the basket left by Zhang Fengying at the end of the kang, lifted the white cloth covering it, and found half a candle, a steamed bun made of two-grain flour, a bowl of porridge, and an old enamel pot inside.

"Drink this."

A bowl of porridge was pushed in front of him.

Jiang Henian looked down at the porridge, then looked up at He Jinshan, who was sitting against the wall with his invalid leg stretched out.

The man glanced over and said, "Why, do you want your uncle to feed you?"

She quickly shook her head and held the still warm bowl in both hands.

It was already dark, and Jiang Henian was starving after working in the fields all day.

At noon at Jiang's house, I was only given half a bowl of corn porridge that was so thin that I couldn't even hold the spoon. If I hadn't secretly run to the cornfield and squatted to eat a box lunch when no one was around, I wouldn't have been able to survive until now.

Although this bowl of white rice porridge is thinner than modern porridge, it contains many scattered rice flowers, and the porridge oil is visible and shiny.

Jiang Henian licked his dry lips and whispered "thank you".

She picked up the bowl and turned around, preparing to squat on the ground to eat again, but was stopped by He Jinshan in a cold voice, with some macho impatience in his tone.

"Where are you going? Let's eat here."

Jiang Henian took off his shoes and climbed onto the kang, leaning against the loess wall like He Jinshan.

He bent his knees to hold the bowl of porridge, carefully held the edge of the bowl with both hands, and scooped a mouthful of porridge into his mouth with a spoon.

The wound on the tip of my tongue felt a little painful from the temperature, but it felt so good to have the warm, fragrant and soft porridge slowly sliding into my empty stomach.

He Jinshan turned his head to glance at Jiang Henian, and seeing her taking bite after bite, he looked away and stopped looking.

He bent his left leg, which was not seriously injured, picked up the dry steamed bun, looked at it for a few seconds, put it in his mouth and took a bite without caring.

The dim candlelight flickered slightly on the kang, and for a moment, the only sound in the dilapidated thatched house was the faint chewing sounds of the two people.

Gradually, there was a very light and subtle inhalation sound.

"Not tasty?"

Jiang Henian lowered his head, holding the bowl, shook his head, and a tear fell into the porridge.

This was actually the first meal she had sat down and eaten peacefully since she came here.

It was only two days, but the time felt so long and difficult. Even the white porridge that she had never even looked at before became so delicious.

The girl's breathing was intermittent and cautious.

He Jinshan pinched the remaining piece of steamed bun and stared silently at the whorl of hair on Jiang Henian's head from the side.

What did this little girl go through before he woke up?
