Chapter 88

Chapter 88

Sun Pengfei was lost in thought when he felt his cell phone vibrate in his pocket.

He excitedly wondered: Could this be a call from Huang Ruoyu? Obviously, this idea was illogical and unrealistic; why would Huang Ruoyu call him first? Despite this thought, Sun Pengfei's hands trembled as he pulled his phone from his pocket. Sure enough, the caller ID showed his wife, Su Ningna's, name.

"Honey, what happened now... What? What did you say? Listen to me, calm down. Who was taken to the hospital? When? Holy crap! How could this happen?"

But at this time, an important change occurred: for the first time in a whole week, Sun Pengfei felt that he could control himself and had regained the ability to handle emergencies.

So Sun Pengfei gently slid into the perfectly ergonomic executive chair, crossed his legs, held his phone to his face with one hand, and casually tapped on the computer keyboard with the other. His focused expression made him look like a highly concentrated, ready-to-go frontline soldier.

"Calm down, okay?" Sun Pengfei said as he instructed Su Ningna. "Call the town's central hospital first. I reckon the ambulance will go there first. Ask the hospital's emergency center if they've received Xiao Huang. If not, ask the integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine hospital. Once you've got everything sorted out, then call Xiao Cheng... Yes, I know you're upset. Okay, I'll call the hospital, and then I'll call Xiao Cheng. Are you listening to me? You have to relax and not scare the two kids in the Cheng family, understand?"

Sun Pengfei tapped the keyboard twice as he spoke, then continued, "Don't scare our three boys, don't let them notice anything amiss. They're still playing in the backyard, don't they? Hmm, okay... okay, that's all for now, I'll call you back later."

Then, Sun Pengfei directly dialed the emergency center of the town's central hospital. After a long and complicated series of phone transfers, and having to filter out information that couldn't provide any help, Sun Pengfei finally obtained all the information he needed with his authoritative, calm, decisive, and unquestionable tone.

"What kind of emergency treatment are you conducting?... I want to know what exactly happened to the patient... Oh, you said she miscarried? And she took painkillers after drinking alcohol...? Oh, I see. Can you tell me how the patient is now?... Do you know how long the surgery will take?... What is the surgeon's name...?" Sun Pengfei asked while quickly writing down the doctor's name in his notebook, thinking about how to establish a connection with the doctor. "Okay, one last question, have you notified her husband? Okay, thank you very much for your help."

Then, Sun Pengfei, still with his legs crossed, dialed Cheng Shi's number.

Although Sun Pengfei learned from the phone call that the hospital hadn't been able to contact Chengshi yet, he figured the property management should have already informed Chengshi, as that was part of their job. However, before calling Chengshi, he still checked the residents' group chat, which he had muted. After scrolling through several screens, Sun Pengfei found that no property manager had come forward to explain the situation, and Su Ningna had confidently stated that she had called the property management immediately to inquire about the situation, but no one answered.

Unfortunately, the task of notifying Cheng Shi fell to Sun Pengfei. But to everyone's surprise, no one answered Cheng Shi's phone.

In desperation, Sun Pengfei had no choice but to search for the switchboard number for the Los Angeles Head Office on Baidu and call it. The call went through numerous transfers before finally being answered by a woman who identified herself as Cheng Shi's secretary.

"Excuse me, I'd like to see Mr. Cheng Shi... Oh, could you please call him out of the meeting room? I have something very important and urgent to tell him."

It wasn't until he stopped and waited that Sun Pengfei suddenly felt anxiety spreading through his internal organs.

Then, Narumi finally answered the phone: "Who is this...? What? What did you say?!"

As expected, Cheng Shi's voice was both shocked and weak after hearing what Sun Pengfei said on the phone.

"Xiao Cheng, don't panic, listen to me. You have to calm down! From what I know right now, Xiao Huang should be alright. Well, that's what the hospital says. Now listen to me, quickly take the subway to Changping Station, I'll wait for you at Exit C, and we can get to the hospital in five minutes... Yes, I'm leaving from the company now, you hurry too!"
