Chapter 29 Leave a Hand Behind

Chapter 29 Leaving One Hand Behind

As soon as she returned to the ward, Su Xi said indifferently, "You should go back first. I can take care of things here." She didn't want to pretend to be affectionate with Feng Jinchen in front of her grandmother.

"Xixi, you're my wife. My hand is injured, and Grandma is still sick. Do you think I can leave?"

Hearing the man's aggressive tone, Su Xi had no choice but to say, "Whatever."

Before he could finish speaking, Feng Jinchen's phone rang.

After finishing the call, Feng Jinchen's handsome face was full of apology. "Xixi, there's an emergency at the company, I have to go back. I'll arrange for a caregiver."

Su Xi found it somewhat amusing, but she couldn't be happier, so she simply hummed in agreement.

Feng Jinchen hugged Su Xi and then left in a hurry.

Not long after, the door to the ward opened again. A middle-aged man in his forties or fifties walked in, looking exhausted and worried. He looked travel-worn, clearly having endured a long journey and much mental anguish.

"Uncle, Grandma is fine, don't worry."

Su Zian walked over, bent down to look at the old lady's face, and touched her hand before he felt relieved.

He sat down, took a sip of water, and noticed that Su Xi's hand was wrapped in bandages. He quickly asked, "What happened to your hand?"

"I accidentally got squeezed, it's okay."

After the uncle and nephew talked for a while, Su Xi suddenly remembered something, got up and locked the ward door.

Su Zian looked at her with a puzzled expression.

Su Xi rummaged through her bag and, sure enough, found the card she had brought with her today. "Uncle, here's 30 million. I know the company's transformation requires a lot of investment, so take this money for working capital."

Su Zi'an's eyes widened. His company had encountered a bottleneck a few years ago and had no choice but to transform itself to survive. He was indeed strapped for cash right now.

But something's not right.

He pulled Su Xi to a seat by the window, a little further away from the old lady, and lowered his voice, "Xi Xi, I can't take this money. To put it bluntly, a married daughter is like water spilled from a bowl. You're a member of the Feng family now, just focus on living your lives well."

Even if the money were to be given, it should be from Feng Jinchen, but that's clearly impossible. That man seems to dislike Su Xi's powerful family background; not only does he not give him preferential treatment in business, he's even more demanding. He has no choice but to develop his business elsewhere.

Seeing Su Xi remain silent, Su Zi'an frowned even more deeply, a bad premonition rising in his heart, "Xi Xi, your relationship can't be..."

“Yes,” Su Xi smiled and looked up, seemingly unconcerned. “He’s not a good man. He cheated on me. I wanted a divorce, but he wanted me to leave with nothing. So I had to secretly transfer some of my assets.”

Upon hearing this, Su Zi'an was shocked for a while before he could process the sudden turn of events. His slightly chapped lips moved, but he still didn't say anything to reconcile them. He sighed and said, "Since you've already made up your mind, then we support you. You should keep this money for yourself."

“Uncle is wrong. That man is heartless and cruel. If I keep him, I'm afraid I won't be able to take a single penny with me. But if I give him to you, Uncle, your company will grow bigger and better, and if I get divorced in the future, I'll have someone to rely on.”

After thinking for a long time with his eyes lowered, Su Zi'an finally nodded, "What you said makes sense. I'll accept the money, but I'll give you an IOU. Otherwise, I won't accept it."

Seeing that Su Zi'an insisted, Su Xi had no choice but to watch helplessly as he wrote the IOU and pressed his fingerprint on it.

"Remember, whether you give money or not, your family will always be your support and your fallback."

"Mmm." Su Xi's eyes stung a little.

At this moment, the old lady woke up, and the two of them adjusted their expressions and walked over with smiles on their faces.

Ji Feifei returned to the company, feeling quite smug. She had flattered and fawned over Wu Qingluan, making her feel good, and in return, Wu Qingluan arranged a good job for her mother.

Although the job was tiring and busy, the salary was many times higher than before. Their family's life improved dramatically. Her mother constantly reminded her to make sure she befriended this benefactor.

Now that she has accomplished this great thing, she will surely reap the rewards.

Before it was time to leave work, Ji Feifei was called out. She thought Wu Qingluan was going to give her some kind of surprise, but as soon as she reached a secluded spot, she was covered with a sack and then pulled into a car.

The moment the sack was taken down, her pupils contracted sharply. She found herself in a tin-roofed house that resembled a shipping container. It was quiet all around, with only the occasional sound of waves lapping against the shore.

Several menacing-looking bodyguards in sunglasses walked over, the leader holding a claw hammer and slapping it against his palm.

Ji Feifei was so shocked that she peed on the spot, and her whole body trembled like a leaf.

"Miss Ji, I'm sorry, you've offended someone you shouldn't have. Either keep one hand, or smash your own finger. The choice is yours."

Ji Feifei shook her head frantically in terror, forgetting even to cry.

"Since you're not going to choose, we'll help you choose."

Ji Feifei was roughly pulled up and slammed onto the cold metal table. Her right hand was yanked out, and a gleaming watermelon knife, accompanied by the sound of wind cutting, was raised into the air and brought down hard on her wrist.

"No! I choose, I'll smash it, I'll smash my own hand!"

The sharp blade veered slightly, grazing Ji Feifei's hand and cutting into the table, instantly embedding itself more than halfway into it.

Ji Feifei was terrified; her bulging eyes were bloodshot, and tears and snot streamed down her face.

She was thrown to the ground again, followed by a claw hammer thrown in front of her.

Ji Feifei bit her lip hard, closed her eyes, and smashed her fingers.

"ah-"

The intense pain was excruciating; Ji Feifei couldn't bear it any longer and rolled on the ground, clutching her arms.

“Keep going. Until all five fingers are a bloody mess. Otherwise, I'll throw you into the sea to feed the sharks.”

Ji Feifei shivered, forced to endure the pain and crawl to her knees, trembling as she picked up the hammer.

He endured the excruciating pain of being torn apart again and again until he completely lost consciousness.

When she woke up again, she was on a deserted beach. All five fingernails on her right hand were rotten, and the pain almost made her faint again.

The thought of feeding the sharks and losing a hand made her feel somewhat fortunate. She got up and fled this awful place without looking back.

"Mr. Feng, the matter of Madam's hand injury has been resolved. As for the person who caused Old Madam Su's illness, we will soon have some clues about them."

Feng Jinchen hung up the phone without expression after listening.

That evening, he drove to the hospital to pick up Su Xi and took her back to her residence.

The old lady had a caregiver and her uncle, and her health was already fine. She repeatedly urged Su Xi to go back and rest, and Su Xi could only comply.

Just as she was about to get off the bus, the man grabbed her hand.

Su Xi frowned, about to speak, when a bright red property ownership certificate appeared in her hand. Opening it, she saw it was in her name.

Seeing the surprised look on the woman's face, Feng Jinchen said gently, "You want to live closer to the company? This is the best apartment complex near your company. Do you like it?"

A feeling of being touched welled up in Su Xi's heart, but then she thought that Feng Jinchen might also buy houses for other women, and her heart immediately calmed down.

"It's alright."

Feng Jinchen smiled indulgently, "Your hand is injured, so I'll have Auntie bring you three meals a day. Just tell her what you want to eat."

"No need," Su Xi instinctively refused. Whoever pays the salary is the master. She didn't want to be monitored.

"Is that not possible? Then I'll cook for you. I may not be a great cook, but I can learn."

Su Xi chuckled, "Let Auntie bring the food instead."

Feng Jinchen, "..."
