Chapter 2 Having someone else do the childbirth while sleeping
As she spoke, Wen Li grabbed her collar with her other hand.
A chill flashed in Ji Ying's eyes as she grabbed a water glass from the bedside table and smashed it over her head.
With a "bang," the water glass shattered on Wen Li's forehead...
Wen Li staggered back two steps, her fingers trembling as she touched the wound, her eyes widening in disbelief.
"You dare hit me... I'll fight you to the death!"
Wen Li charged at Ji Ying like a mad dog, fighting her to the death.
Ji Ying was still recovering from serious injuries and was no match for her at all.
Wen Li grabbed her clothes and threw her to the ground.
Just as Ji Ying was thrown to the ground, a dark figure flew in from the doorway and caught her steadily.
Gu Yanchen knelt on the ground, his well-tailored suit highlighting his sharp shoulders and back. Although he looked travel-worn, he still exuded an unapproachable air of nobility.
“Yingying…”
Looking at the person in his arms gradually losing consciousness, he raised his eyes and glanced at the culprit.
The atmosphere in the ward suddenly became tense, and even the sunlight shining into the ward lost its warmth.
Mrs. Zhang was so frightened that she grabbed Wen Li's hand and whispered, "Didn't you say she fell out of favor? This... this is what falling out of favor means?"
Wen Li was also stunned.
Gu Yanchen should be staying by her daughter's side at this moment, so why did he suddenly come back?
Unable to bear the consequences, she abruptly shook off Mrs. Zhang's hand, rolled her eyes, and "fainted" to the ground.
...
Ji Ying regained consciousness in the evening.
Someone is wiping her face.
Chen Yuan's voice reached my ears.
"The two bodyguards were hired temporarily by Madam; they've already been taken to the police station and won't be out for at least twenty years. Also, someone will be going to Mr. Zhang's company tomorrow to audit the taxes..."
Gu Yanchen threw the towel back into the basin, clearly dissatisfied with the outcome.
"You're getting better and better at handling things. I have so many bodyguards, is it so hard for you to put two at the door to keep unauthorized personnel out?"
Chen Yuan quickly apologized, "Yes, it was my oversight."
Ji Ying opened her eyes, and the man's straight back came into view.
She took a deep breath and spoke. "The one causing trouble is Wen Li. You can't do anything about her, so you take it out on your assistant?"
When Gu Yanchen saw that she was awake, he turned around and helped her sit up.
The man's hair was neatly styled, and the cologne on his clothes was his usual one.
If no one had taken a picture of him, he would still be the same dignified and untainted Gu Yanchen.
"So your wife complained to the hospital and Xiao Chang because she blamed me?" he teased.
Ji Ying could tell that he intended to downplay the issue, but the marriage problem could not be left ambiguous.
"If you hadn't shown her through your actions that you already had someone else in your heart, would she have dared to bring people into my hospital room?"
Gu Yanchen was not surprised at all that she knew some things. He sat on the edge of the bed, and the teasing smile on his lips gradually faded.
“The business is urgent and the schedule can’t be changed, but I haven’t abandoned you. I personally determined the treatment team and rescue plan for you. You can’t use your phone in the ICU, but Xiao Chang will update me on your condition every day. Others don’t know these things and will only make things up.”
Such an insincere yet perfect explanation could only come from Gu Yanshen.
An indescribable pang of sorrow gripped Ji Ying's heart.
"I have doctors to treat you, and Chen Yuan to sign critical condition notices. Since someone else is doing everything for you, why not have someone else do your sleeping and childbirth too? Wouldn't that be even more convenient for you, Mr. Gu?"
"Yingying!"
Ji Ying was always gentle and had never spoken to him so sarcastically. Gu Yanchen was not used to it and his expression became slightly serious.
Chen Yuan was covered in sweat: Why did my wife bring me up out of the blue?
"Chen Yuan, get out," Gu Yanchen said.
"yes."
The assistant slipped away.
Ji Ying couldn't bring herself to say "Gu Lingxue's" name to question Gu Yanchen.
When dealing with a man like this, you need to be mindful of your actions, rhythm, and tactics. If you lack any one of these three elements, he will become even more elusive, putting you at a greater disadvantage.
She looked at his sharp profile; he didn't speak, and neither did she.
After a moment, Gu Yanchen softened his tone, "I don't want to argue with you. If you have any concerns, feel free to speak your mind, but I hope your expression is rational and clear-headed, not childishly willful."
Ji Ying sneered.
When "willful" became her defining characteristic, it became perfectly natural for him to use his superior power to manipulate her.
“I checked your spending records, and you’ve spent a lot in Aalborg over the past four years.”
The tenderness between the man's brows vanished instantly. "Who gave you permission to investigate me?"
Ji Ying mustered her courage and said, "If I hadn't investigated, how would I have known that every time President Gu went on a business trip, no matter if the destination was Europe or North America, he would eventually detour to Aalborg?"
The words were already on his lips. If he hadn't done anything to wrong her, and he and Gu Lingxue were just ordinary step-siblings, what harm was there in explaining?
However, Gu Yanchen reached out and pinched her chin.
Ji Ying's heart skipped a beat: Was he going to get violent towards her?
A thin layer of frost settled between Gu Yanchen's brows, but after his fingers brushed against her bloodless lips, he chuckled softly.
"Honey, who's trying to sow discord?"
Ji Ying's eyelashes trembled slightly, and she didn't mention the photos at all, which was to protect the person who sent them to her.
"You cheated on me, and you don't even have the courage to admit it?"
Gu Yanchen flattened the curve of his lips and released her chin.
He wasn't good-tempered, but he never showed his sharp edges in front of Ji Ying.
"Before you believe those rumors, think about who you are. If you were no different from anyone else, would I go to all that trouble to make sure the hospital saves your life?"
It turns out that he saved her only to prove the value of being Gu Yanchen's wife.
A chill suddenly ran through Ji Ying's heart.
So what Wen Li said about being a shield and a scapegoat is true.
All the past favors and affections, once torn away, leave only utterly cold indifference.
She unconsciously clenched her fingers.
Just then, there was a knock on the ward door, and Gu Gong pushed the door open and walked in.
"Yan Chen, the police have arrived. Your assistant is negotiating with them. I heard them say that Yingying's injury was an accident and not a case of retaliation."
Ji Ying looked at Gu Yanchen, trying to find some clue on his face that the police investigation was wrong.
However, the man seemed completely unconcerned about the survey results.
"What's wrong, Dad?"
Gu Gong's gaze shifted, avoiding his son's all-seeing eyes, and he turned to look at Ji Ying.
Are you feeling better?
Gu Yanchen didn't give him time to get to the point and took over the conversation.
"Dad always praises Auntie for being gentle, but today she's been quite fierce. So all that 'virtuousness' you've spoiled her with is just a way to practice on my wife?"
Ji Ying was somewhat surprised.
The two of them were just arguing, and he was still holding back his anger, but now he's actually arguing with his dad for her sake.
Gu Gong's face turned pale.
“You know, she’s not very educated, simple-minded, and impulsive, but she has a good heart and no ill will toward Yingying. I’ve already given her a stern reprimand.”
Gu Yanchen's eyes flickered slightly, "So Father's meaning is..."
Gu Gong stepped forward. "Although Ali's actions were inappropriate, Yingying shouldn't have laid a hand on her elders. I hope she apologizes to her mother-in-law and admits her mistake."
