Chapter 23 You're the richest widow now!
Shen Li's emotions had calmed down a bit, but her speech function seemed not to have fully recovered.
Hearing Zhou Yan's words, she remained silent, only gently shaking her head.
Her fingers loosened their grip on the curtain, as if she were clutching a lifeline.
When I let go, I was actually a little unsteady on my feet.
Shen Li swayed slightly.
Lu Yanchuan frowned and immediately stood up.
The nurse steadied Shen Li before he could react, asking, "Are you alright?! Would you like some glucose?"
Shen Li steadied herself by holding onto the bedpost, her voice hoarse, "No, no need, thank you."
Lu Yanchuan frowned and looked at Zhou Yan, "You made so many phone calls, and not a single one of them was to her?"
Zhou Yan looked apologetic. "I'm sorry, Mr. Lu, I'm sorry, Mrs. Lu."
It's no wonder he overlooked this; Lu Yanchuan hadn't cared about Shen Li before.
Even if nothing has happened yet, what if something really did happen? Given Lu Yanchuan's past attitude towards Shen Li, his subordinates have been subtly influenced to ignore her as well.
I doubt she'd even realize it in time to tell her.
Shen Li was well aware of this, and seeing Zhou Yan's apologetic expression, she felt there was no need to do so.
“It doesn’t matter,” Shen Li said.
To make up for his dereliction of duty, Zhou Yan repeated what he had said several times on the phone before.
“Madam, the situation was really dangerous just now. It's possible that because Mr. Lu decided to inspect the factory at the last minute, the factory staff didn't have time to check the machinery beforehand. Unfortunately, the accident happened at that moment.”
"When the accident happened, Mr. Lu was right next to that person. The machine malfunctioned for some reason, and the cutter head suddenly flew off during operation. In that situation, anyone could have been injured."
"The blade landed on the factory manager next to General Manager Lu, and his carotid artery was instantly..." Zhou Yan seemed to recall the horrific scene at the time. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath.
“Saying it was a carotid artery was an understatement; his head was almost directly…” Zhou Yan said, “President Lu was standing right next to him, and that man’s blood splattered all over him.”
No wonder Lu Yanchuan looked so frightening in that photo, covered in blood.
That's why no one could be sure Lu Yanchuan was unharmed at the time, so they rushed him to the hospital for a checkup.
That's why we have the scene of Lu Yanchuan being pushed into an ambulance covered in blood.
Shen Li still remembers how she felt when she saw that photo; she felt that it was the most terrifying thing ever.
But listening to Zhou Yan's description, Shen Li felt a chill run down her spine just thinking about the scene.
She pursed her dry lips, her voice still hoarse, "Are you injured?"
“There were no obvious external injuries, but we need to do a set of tests for infectious diseases, since there has been close contact with other people’s blood,” Zhou Yan said.
Shen Li finally breathed a long sigh of relief.
Lu Yanchuan sat there, his deep eyes narrowed as he looked at her, a lazy, tender smile curving his lips.
He asked, "Are you really afraid I'll die?"
The lingering fear in Shen Li's heart brought forth a belated surge of anger.
Shen Li frowned and looked at Lu Yanchuan, "Then can I still hope you die?" What a pointless question!
Lu Yanchuan raised an eyebrow at Shen Li's words. "Why not? I don't have a will. If I die, Shen Li, you'll be the richest widow."
Shen Li glared at him, annoyed!
What utter nonsense is this!
Shen Li didn't want to pay attention to his words. She reached for her phone, only to realize that she had gotten out of the car in a hurry and hadn't taken her phone with her.
Shen Li said to Zhou Yan, "I came in a hurry and left my phone in the car. I'll go get it."
“Okay, madam, don’t worry. Once the test results come back clear, Mr. Lu can be discharged,” Zhou Yan said.
Shen Li nodded, didn't look at Lu Yanchuan again, and turned to walk out of the observation ward.
As Shen Li walked out, a figure by the door suddenly darted into the door of the observation ward next to it, and the recording interface on the phone screen flashed by.
But there were always many people rushing around in the hospital, and given the significant impact she had experienced today, Shen Li didn't notice.
I went back to the car and got my phone.
Just then, Qu Xiang called, "Lili! Are you alright? Don't worry too much, I heard Lu Yanchuan is fine."
“Yes, I know. I saw him at the hospital,” Shen Li said.
Qu Xiang also breathed a sigh of relief.
After ending the call, Shen Li went to the hospital, only to find her throat becoming increasingly dry and hoarse.
I simply bought a few bottles of water from the vending machine and carried them inside.
As Shen Li walked to the door of the observation ward, before she even went inside, she heard pitiful sobbing coming from inside.
"Achuan, you scared me to death!"
Shen Li paused, suddenly losing all desire to go inside.
She turned and left through the entrance of the observation ward, just as she bumped into Zhou Yan who was walking over.
Zhou Yan was stunned as she turned to leave. Just as he was about to speak, Shen Li handed him the water in her hand. "I have something to do, so I won't go in yet."
Zhou Yan opened his mouth as if to say something, but Shen Li had already walked past him and left.
Zhou Yan glanced at Shen Li's retreating figure, pondered for a moment, and then walked into the observation ward with a few bottles of water.
As soon as I walked in, I heard Song Xiaowan's pitiful sobbing. "When I saw the photo, my heart almost stopped! It scared me to death!"
Zhou Yan was taken aback, and immediately understood why his wife had turned and left.
Lu Yanchuan sat on the hospital bed, his posture somewhat absent-minded and lazy. When Zhou Yan arrived at the door, Lu Yanchuan's eyes suddenly swept towards the door.
Upon seeing that it was Zhou Yan, he lazily put it back.
"I won't die," Lu Yanchuan said.
This statement has a double meaning; it's unclear whether it's saying he won't die, or that Song Xiaowan isn't so easily scared to death.
Upon hearing this, Song Xiaowan bit her lip and paused in surprise.
Zhou Yan walked in and placed the water on the bedside table. "My wife bought this."
Lu Yanchuan, who had been casually looking down, finally raised his eyes upon hearing this. "Where is she?"
"He just left." Zhou Yan thought for a moment. "Uh, he just... gave me the water at the door and said he was leaving."
As Zhou Yan spoke, he glanced subtly in Song Xiaowan's direction.
Lu Yanchuan raised an eyebrow, understanding perfectly well. He chuckled and said calmly, "...What a pathetic person."
...
On the phone, Qu Xiang said the same thing, "...Shen Li, what a loser you are! You are the rightful and lawfully wedded wife! Why are you avoiding that little bitch Song Xiaowan?"
Just by listening to the sound, Shen Li could imagine Qu Xiang jumping up and down on the other end.
Shen Li smiled and said, "I'm a little tired and don't want to argue with her. Anyway, it's only a matter of time before Lu Yanchuan and I break up. It's good that he's alright today."
Even if they were to separate later, Shen Li didn't feel that 'if you're not good, then everything is fine'.
If she really came to Lancheng to find her and ended up in danger, Shen Li wouldn't be able to get over that hurdle in her heart.
