Chapter 43 Brother Chuan, have you lost your mind?
On the small stage of the Livehouse Bar, a male singer sang a sad love song with all his might.
Below the stage, Xin Yang was completely absorbed in the music and even joined in the singing. Occasionally, a few off-key notes would sound like scratching a blackboard with a fingernail, which was incredibly stimulating to Lu Yanchuan's senses.
Lu Yanchuan felt a headache coming on. He raised his hand and pressed the bridge of his nose, suddenly wondering why he had come here with Xin Yang.
Finally, the song came to an end.
Lu Yanchuan raised his hand and beckoned a waiter.
"Hello, how can I help you?"
Lu Yanchuan scanned the QR code on the table and bought a very expensive set of flower baskets. These flower baskets weren't real flower baskets; they were actually tips for the performers.
Seeing his movements, the waiter asked, "Sir, would you like to request a song?"
Lu Yanchuan shook his head, "Just let them have some peace and quiet."
The waiter didn't react immediately, "What?"
"We just told them to stop singing for a while and calm down," Lu Yanchuan said.
"But this place is a livehouse..." The waiter originally thought he was just delivering a flower basket, so he was thinking of explaining.
Then, glancing at the screen, he saw the amount on Lu Yanchuan's phone and was somewhat shocked.
"Uh, well... I'll go ask the manager." The waiter smiled politely and quickly turned to ask.
A short while later, they came over and told Lu Yanchuan that the next performance, originally scheduled for fifteen minutes later, had been postponed forty-five minutes.
During this hour, the musicians will only play some relatively soothing pieces.
Lu Yanchuan was very satisfied.
Xin Yang was very dissatisfied.
"No, Brother Chuan, I want to listen to songs, I want to sing!" Xin Yang shouted.
Lu Yanchuan glanced at him and said, "I'll find a KTV, book a private room, lock you in, and make you sing for three days and three nights straight from the middle of the night."
"I was wrong." Xin Yang was spineless and immediately backed down.
He happily picked up his phone, scanned the QR code to order food, and muttered, "I'm starving, there's really nothing to eat at the buffet on the ship..."
Before long, various snacks were served.
Lu Yanchuan had little appetite and just drank from his glass. In the crystal whiskey glass, a crystal-clear ice ball was immersed in the amber-colored liquor.
Xin Yang crunched on the crispy fried baby sea lobster, then stuffed a piece of shredded beef into his mouth and chewed, asking Lu Yan in a muffled voice.
"Brother Chuan, how's it going? You bought that 'Mountain Eagle' statue for your wife today. That should appease her and prevent her from threatening to divorce you, right?"
Hearing Xin Yang's words, Lu Yanchuan paused in his drinking motion, then poured the wine in the glass into his mouth even more forcefully.
Xin Yang sensed the emotion in his actions and paused in her chewing. "Uh, did I... fail to appease him?"
Xin Yang muttered to himself, "There's no reason for it. Who wouldn't be confused by the way my brother Chuan bids at the auction?"
Lu Yanchuan put down his glass, leaving only the ice ball spinning alone inside.
“I didn’t give that ‘Mountain Eagle’ statue to Shen Li,” Lu Yanchuan said.
Xin Yang choked, almost choking on the beef in his mouth. After catching his breath, he asked incredulously, "Has your brain collapsed?"
Lu Yanchuan glanced at him.
Xin Yang gulped down two mouthfuls of beer. "If I may be so bold as to ask, who did you give 'Mountain Eagle' to? Could it be... could it be that Song Xiaowan?"
“She came to beg me,” Lu Yanchuan said, tacitly acknowledging Xin Yang’s earlier statement.
Xin Yang stared wide-eyed at Lu Yanchuan. He usually seemed a bit slow-witted, but right now he was unusually sharp.
Xin Yang took a deep breath. "Brother Chuan, when your wife went back to look for you on the ship earlier, you weren't with Song Xiaowan, were you?"
Lu Yanchuan remained silent, though he already knew the answer in his heart.
“Song Xiaowan happened to come and beg me at that time.”
Xin Yang's eyes widened even more. "Brother Chuan, even after all this, you still have the nerve to be angry that your wife got into Shao Congyu's car?"
"She got into another man's car, can't I be angry?" Lu Yanchuan's expression seemed rather displeased.
“Then if you give ‘Mountain Eagle’ to another woman, wouldn’t your sister-in-law be even angrier? Besides, shouldn’t it be considered marital property?” Xin Yang retorted.
His mind was sharper than ever before.
Lu Yanchuan found Xin Yang a bit annoying at this moment, but he didn't stop him from saying it.
Lu Yanchuan said in a low voice, "It's okay, I'll just buy her something better. That 'Mountain Eagle' isn't anything special anyway."
“But my sister-in-law really wants it.” Xin Yang blinked. “I heard from Brother Lan that before the auction, my sister-in-law specifically asked Sister Lan to take her to see that ‘Mountain Eagle’.”
Lu Yanchuan remained silent.
Xin Yang said, "Brother Chuan, you don't really want to divorce your wife, do you?"
"You son of a bitch...!" Lu Yanchuan said in a low voice, hiding his anger. He paused for a moment to calm himself down, then lowered his voice even further, "Isn't that obvious?"
If he wanted to leave, why would he go all the way to Lancheng?
Xin Yang pursed his lips. "If I were you, I would have gone back to apologize long ago. Why would I be drinking alone here?"
Lu Yanchuan did not refute Xin Yang's words and remained silent.
He poured another glass of whiskey, tilted his head back, and drank it down.
Perhaps it was the effects of alcohol, or perhaps it was some other emotion.
Lu Yanchuan lowered his voice, "Did I spend less money on her? I spent even more money on Shen Li!"
Xin Yang answered matter-of-factly, "But she's your wife."
Lu Yanchuan raised his hand and slapped Xin Yang on the head. "You're really a damn smart idiot."
Lu Yanchuan stood up. "Move aside, I'm going to the restroom."
Xin Yang chuckled, watching Lu Yanchuan's departing figure. Xin Yang thought to himself that Su Yi was right; Lu Yanchuan probably didn't even know what he wanted.
However, this is not surprising, as many people in their circle do not start their marriages out of their own free will.
Many things, especially major life events, if they are not of one's own volition, even if one appears indifferent and compliant on the surface, it is inevitable that some rebellious feelings will arise in one's heart.
Sometimes, it's impossible to rationally view the relationship between the two parties.
However, Xin Yang certainly didn't understand these principles; they were all explained by Su Yi.
Although Xin Yang didn't understand, he loved to meddle in other people's business.
Xin Yang finished his beer and ate two pieces of fruit. After thinking for a moment, he picked up his phone and made a call…
It was getting late, and the phone had rung several times without being answered. Xin Yang thought no one would answer it.
Just as I was about to hang up, I heard a soft voice on the other end, "Hello?"
Xin Yang's eyes lit up. "Sister-in-law! It's me! Xin Yang!"
"Oh... is there something you need?" Shen Li's voice was devoid of emotion.
Xin Yang, being an outgoing and friendly person, continued, "Sister-in-law, how about we go out for a late-night snack? Brother Chuan was worried you didn't eat well on the boat."
Lu Yanchuan had just returned from the restroom when he heard Xin Yang say this.
Lu Yanchuan: "..."
