Chapter 97 Lu Yanchuan... Is he dead?
Zhou Yan wholeheartedly agreed, "Yes, Madam, please lie down quickly."
Shen Li glanced at the truck driver on the ground, then reached out and pulled Zhou Yan, whispering to him, "Don't let him get away."
"Don't worry, the perpetrator will go with us," Zhou Yan said.
Then Shen Li said in a low voice, "No, it wasn't an accident, it was premeditated murder."
Upon hearing Shen Li's words, Zhou Yan's expression immediately changed.
If he was still anxious and flustered because of this sudden accident, Zhou Yan's face immediately darkened upon hearing Shen Li's words.
His usually gentle and indifferent gaze swept coldly towards the truck driver.
When she spoke to Shen Li again, her tone remained gentle, "Don't worry, Madam, I will handle the aftermath. You should go to the hospital to check your injuries first."
Zhou Yan only instructed her, "Madam, just to be on the safe side, I will suppress this matter for now and discuss it again after we have clarified the specific situation."
After hearing this, Shen Li nodded slightly, "Okay, I'll keep it a secret for now."
After she finished speaking, she glanced at the ambulance that Lu Yanchuan had been pushed into.
Just as the ambulance was about to close its doors, Shen Li asked, "Can I ride with him to the hospital?"
She felt that her condition was not serious and that she probably didn't need to lie on a wheelchair. She thought that sitting next to Lu Yanchuan should be fine.
Shen Li paused, then added, "That's my husband."
But the doctor disagreed and insisted that she be put on a gurney.
The ambulance sped towards the hospital.
When Shen Li was taken to the hospital by ambulance, Lu Yanchuan had already been taken into the emergency room.
Shen Li was quickly taken into the examination room for examination.
It's unclear what drug took effect or when she lost consciousness.
It feels like a dream, but it also feels like I wasn't.
Rather than a dream, it was more like... perhaps a replay of memories.
The first image that flashes before my eyes is the truck driver on the phone, saying, "I've done what you asked me to do. When are you going to pay me?"
But soon, it turned into an even blurrier and more distant image...
That was a scene that Shen Li dared not even touch in her dreams; it seemed that even dreaming of it once would make her fall seriously ill.
And now, this blurry, distant scene reappears.
It was still that cramped, confined, and deformed carriage space.
It still had that sweet, metallic smell of blood and the pungent odor of gasoline.
Shen Li was already experienced with such nightmare scenes.
I can almost guess what the next scene will be.
The next scene shows him turning his head and seeing his mother's weak, blood-stained face.
He gave her a gentle yet sorrowful smile.
That was a face etched into her memory, one that would never fade, never be forgotten.
However, this face has not appeared now.
There was no trace of her mother's blood-stained face beside her.
There was no one there.
In Shen Li's memory, after she climbed out of the car window, the car behind her leaked oil and exploded.
She knew in her mind that her mother was dead.
Her memory ends here.
Later, the psychologist told her that the scene might have been too impactful for a child.
Therefore, her subconscious wanted to protect her. And so, her memory stopped there.
She has never recalled the scenes or memories that followed.
There are long periods of memory, or even blanks.
But at this moment, in this scene that is neither a dream nor a memory, I cannot tell.
Shen Li saw that there was another person standing outside the car, who looked exactly like the truck driver who had hit her and Lu Yanchuan earlier.
He made a phone call while standing not far away.
It is not a rescue or emergency number.
He said into the phone, "I've finished everything, just give me the balance now! What? How was I supposed to know the child would survive! She's just lucky!"
"I don't care, I did what you said. If you don't give me the money, don't blame me for being heartless and unjust!"
Shen Li gasped for breath and opened her eyes.
Her gaze was fixed anxiously on the ceiling, which was lit by a cold white light.
Tears slid down her cheeks and into her hair.
Shen Li was about to sit up when a hand gently pressed her down.
"Don't move."
Qu Xiang's voice was low and hoarse, and she looked haggard.
The styling she had done at a salon for her class reunion didn't reflect her elite and refined demeanor at this moment.
It only made her look haggard and disheveled; her carefully styled hair was somewhat messy, and her clothes were wrinkled.
Her makeup had faded somewhat, and it seemed unable to even conceal the weariness on her face.
When Shen Li met Qu Xiang's eyes, she saw them quickly turn red.
"You scared me to death!" Qu Xiang said.
Shen Li blinked. "How long have I been asleep? How is Lu Yanchuan now?"
She brushed Qu Xiang's hand away and sat up again.
But she immediately felt the pain. Shen Li frowned, let out a soft groan, and furrowed her brow.
She realized that she hadn't believed what the doctor said before, and that the adrenaline might have made her overlook her injuries.
But now that I'm feeling this pain, I realize that I might not actually be uninjured.
"You feel pain now?" Qu Xiang stared at her. "Aren't you going to behave yourself?"
Shen Li frowned, enduring the pain that came from suddenly getting up.
Then he asked, "What's wrong with me?"
"Lung contusion," Qu Xiang said. "The doctor said you kept saying you were fine the whole way, but as soon as you got to the hospital and were wheeled into the emergency room for tests, you went into shock. It was terrifying!"
Qu Xiang frowned, even showing a hint of anger.
He wasn't really angry with Shen Li; to put it bluntly, he was just feeling sorry for her.
Shen Li squeezed Qu Xiang's hand. "I'm fine. How's Lu Yanchuan? Go find me a wheelchair and take me to see him."
The image that's haunting her mind right now is Lu Yanchuan's face, soaked and stained red with blood.
The thought lingered, making her terrified.
She needs to go see Lu Yanchuan.
But Qu Xiang did not make any move.
Shen Li's expression froze, and she bit her lip hard, as if trying to hold back.
But I still couldn't hold back, and my eyes turned red in just two seconds.
His voice instantly went hoarse, and when he spoke again, it was so weak that there was almost no volume, only a breathy sound.
With her eyes lowered, she asked in a sorrowful voice, "Is Lu Yanchuan... dead?"
Before Qu Xiang could answer, a cold and angry voice came from the door of the ward.
"You're really dreaming! Shen Li! How can you be so ruthless! You know Yan Chuan didn't leave a will, so you think that as long as he's gone, his property will be yours, is that it?!"
