Chapter 137 The Caged Bird Breaks Free (Part 3)

A secluded warehouse in the suburbs is a few hundred meters away from the main road. It is surrounded by weeds, and two burly bodyguards stand guard at the warehouse gate.

The warehouse was extremely rudimentary, with dust covering the floor and a broken window on the wall. The autumn wind blew through the broken window, making the only white light bulb creak.

"Let me go!"

"What do you want?!"

The man, dressed in old clothes and with his head covered, struggled desperately. Two bodyguards behind him held him down on either side and then pushed him to the ground.

Dust billowed into the air.

Qi Shen casually raised his chin, signaling the bodyguard to remove the black cloth from the head of the man lying on the ground.

Blood flowing from his forehead blurred his vision, and the man lying on the ground couldn't see the face of the person above him when he looked up.

He was hunched over, and said in a trembling voice:

"Who...who are you?"

As soon as he finished speaking, a gust of wind swept across his face.

The toe of a pair of impeccably polished, spotless handmade leather shoes hooked onto his disheveled chin. Qi Shen, hands in his trouser pockets, looked down at him condescendingly, his voice deep and cold, "Liu Kai, nicknamed Liu Si, fled to his hometown after injuring someone in a fight..."

As Qi Shen spoke, Liu Kai's pupils contracted sharply. He hurriedly interrupted, "I...I don't understand what nonsense you're spouting." He braced himself against the rough cement floor, and just as he was about to stand up, his bodyguard kicked him in the waist from behind.

With a thud, he fell back to the ground.

Liu Kai groaned in pain.

"It's alright if you don't understand." Qi Shen's thin lips held a captivatingly gentle smile, but that gentleness was only on the surface; beneath it lay a layer of thin ice. "Do you know why I brought you here?"

The man before him, from his attire to his demeanor, was clearly no ordinary person; he was undoubtedly wealthy and powerful. Otherwise, his subordinates wouldn't be so brazen. Thinking back to the beating he received from his bodyguards on the way here, his wounds still throbbed, and Liu Kai honestly shook his head, "I don't know."

Qi Shen withdrew his foot and asked casually, "Who is the person behind you who instructed you to post this?"

He didn't need to appear to interrogate such a softie, but he came anyway, all to personally eliminate those who were plotting against Zhizhi behind her back.

"What post?"

He understood the code of honor in the underworld: if you take someone's money, you have to do their bidding. Liu Kai tried to play dumb.

His eyes flickered imperceptibly behind his glasses, his handsome face displaying a half-smile, "Looks like you weren't properly dealt with on the way here."

Qi Shen bent down and squatted down next to the man.

His dark, sharp gaze swept lightly over Liu Kai's hand, his tone tinged with amusement and nonchalance.

"These hands are going to be gone." He paused deliberately, then chuckled softly. "How will you then be able to risk your life for the people behind you?"

After speaking, the bodyguard bowed and respectfully presented a gleaming Swiss Army knife with both hands, which Qi Shen took.

The gleaming blades, chilling and menacing, accentuated the man's jade-like yet expressionless face, making him even more terrifying.

Liu Kai's teeth chattered violently, and he almost bit his tongue. His face was filled with fear and disbelief.

His gaze was fixed on Qi Shen, as if he wanted to bore a hole through the man's handsome face. Who could be so ruthless despite his gentle appearance?

He must be lying to him. We live in a society governed by the rule of law. Even if someone accidentally causes injury during a fight, he would be criminally liable. Let alone if this was intentional assault.

Liu Kai silently comforted himself.

Qi Shen could tell what Liu Kai was thinking with just a glance. His delicate eyes narrowed slightly, revealing a disdainful and sarcastic smile.

"Ouch! It hurts! It hurts!"

"I'll talk!"

The piercing, heart-wrenching screams echoed throughout the warehouse.

A sudden, unexpected stab pierced the skin of Liu Kai's right hand, the blade tip sinking deep into his flesh.

The bodyguard showed no sign of anything amiss, but Assistant Chen, who had never witnessed such a scene before, subtly bared his teeth.

President Qi used a lot of force this time; just standing there watching, he could feel the pain in his heart.

Qi Shen ignored his screams, lifted his eyelids slightly, and asked with a faint smile, "Do you remember now?"

"I...I remember..." Liu Kai's face was pale with pain, cold sweat beaded on his forehead, and he spoke haltingly, "I...I remember..."

Qi Shen raised an eyebrow slightly. "Hmm?"

"It's...it's Fang Zhen who said someone wanted to do a deal with me." Liu Kai was in so much pain that he almost fainted, but under the man's unwavering gaze, he forced himself to finish speaking, "The reward is ten thousand, and...the ten thousand is in my bank card. I...I happened to be short of money at the time, so I agreed."

As expected, Qi Shen's eyes darkened.

He slowly stood up, tall and elegant, his gaze piercing through the air to land on Assistant Chen standing at the back. He parted his thin lips slightly and said, "Arrange for a group of people to keep an eye on Haida University and find an opportunity to bring Fang Zhen and her accomplice who hasn't shown up yet out together."

"Yes." Assistant Chen nodded, his eyes darting around before glancing at Liu Kai, who was unconscious, and then looking up to ask:

"Mr. Qi, what should he do?"

"After dumping the person at the hospital, I contacted Director Wang at the police headquarters and informed him of the criminal charges he was facing."

"OK."

The suit jacket smelled of blood.

With a barely perceptible hint of disdain in his eyes, Qi Shen calmly and elegantly took off his coat and tossed it on the ground.

He left the finishing touches to his subordinates and drove back to Nangong. The first thing he did upon arriving at Nangong was to wash himself thoroughly and change his clothes.

Stepping out of the bedroom again, the dark and violent aura that had surrounded him disappeared, and he now appeared clean and refined.
