Chapter 52 Wait for Me

The days passed uneventfully.

Fang Zhi went to school at sunrise and returned home at sunset. Besides studying under Qi Shen's watchful eye and being taught how to study by him, he had a few more things to do at home—

Every night before bed, he would ask her for a goodnight kiss, and she would listen to his confession while he whispered in her ear, repeatedly being coaxed into saying that she liked him. At a certain point, he would even call her "baby" in a low voice.

At those times, Fang Zhi would always blush and feel awkward, not knowing what to do with his hands and feet.

At school, Jiang Yu did not deliberately try to run into Fang Zhi again. When they met on campus, he would just stand far away and take a deep look at her.

Until the eve of the college entrance examination, during the last evening self-study session for all senior high school students, everyone was present.

The atmosphere in the classroom was both lively and lonely. With the tacit approval of the homeroom teacher, the students changed seats and found their classmates and friends with whom they spent every day to sit together.

On each youthful face was a mix of anticipation for university and sadness at the impending graduation and the thought of going their separate ways.

Standing on the podium, the homeroom teacher looked at the familiar faces he had spent three years with, more than a thousand days and nights, and sincerely wished them success in their exams.

Her eyes were slightly red, and her voice trembled with a faint sob as she forced back her bitterness and teased:

"As you all know, I teach math, but I'm not very good at Chinese, and I'm even worse than you guys."

"So I won't say much more, I'll just tell you: the college entrance exam is the first step in your life. The college entrance exam is not the end, but the beginning of your wonderful life. I wish you all smooth sailing in the future and that you will see all the mountains and rivers."

After saying that, she hurriedly left the classroom, afraid that if she stayed any longer, her tears would fall in front of the students.

After the homeroom teacher left, the remaining time was reserved for the students to say goodbye.

Liu Siyi, who is usually carefree and stronger than boys, wiped away her tears and hugged Fang Zhi, choking back sobs, "What the homeroom teacher said touched me so much. Although I don't like high school where we have to get up earlier than chickens and go to bed later than dogs, I can't bear to part with you."

Fang Zhi patted Liu Siyi's head. Beneath her gentle and pure appearance lay the sadness of parting. "It's okay, we'll meet during the summer vacation. Contact me if you miss me while you're abroad."

Class 7.

"Brother Jiang~" Zhou Yiming looked at the boy who had been sullen lately and said in a high-pitched voice, "Come give me a hug, since we won't see each other again~"

Jiang Yu glanced at him speechlessly; his family and the Zhou family were at most two villas apart.

Knowing that Zhou Yiming meant to amuse him, he still laughed from the bottom of his heart and said, "Get lost, you're disgusting."

“I’m serious.” Zhou Yiming shrugged. “I thought I could just go to any university with you, but then three generations of my family had a joint review. From my grandparents to my brother, everyone was in agreement. They decided to let me repeat a year.”

"..." Jiang Yu stared at him with a forced smile, "Going to any university is no big deal. See you in your senior year after summer vacation."

"Holy crap?!" Zhou Yiming was full of question marks. "Your family is also planning to make you repeat a year of high school?"

“No.” Jiang Yu leaned against the wall behind him, his thin lips parted slightly, and his tone was lazy. “I’m going to repeat a year myself.”

He had wasted too much time and had to admit that the gap between him and Fang Zhi could not be bridged in just one month.

The difference between him and her was far greater than just a little; it spanned the entire three years of high school.

Upon realizing what was happening, Jiang Yu said to Zhou Yiming, "I'm going out for a bit," before leaving his seat with a flourish.

The latter smiled knowingly. What else could this be but a time to pour out one's heart to someone they like? He waved to the boy's straight, broad back and said, "Go ahead."

Jiang Yu walked down the corridor, and every classroom he passed was noisy. He walked straight to the wall next to Fang Zhi's seat in Class 1 and stopped.

Just then, Liu Siyi's bold voice drifted out of the open window: "I wish my loyal and righteous Zhizhi will have assets of over 100 million after graduation, drive a Ferrari with one hand, take me to a life of luxury and fame, and incidentally give me a Maserati as a gift."

As soon as she finished speaking, an image automatically appeared in Jiang Yu's mind: a clear-eyed girl driving a Ferrari and making a clean and neat drift... The image seemed so incongruous that it made his thin lips curl up involuntarily.

He turned sideways to look inside.

Jiang Yuze's gaze was fixed on her beautiful, clean face. Her delicate eyebrows and eyes held a hint of helplessness, and her lips were slightly upturned. Every part of her, every strand of hair, pleased him.

Neither of the two people who were talking noticed him.

Fang Zhi looked at Liu Siyi, who had placed high hopes on her, with a mix of amusement and exasperation. "Siyi, I'm going to university after graduation, not to rob a bank right after graduating from high school."

"Oh dear, it's all the same now." Liu Siyi was unaware of Fang Zhi's current situation in front of Qi Shen, and only thought that they were still good siblings, so she joked, "Your brother is rich! We'll have him sponsor you two small goals later."

Upon hearing Qi Shen's name, Fang Zhi was taken aback, and the smile on his face stiffened. Jiang Yu's brows furrowed as well.

He had already asked his father, and he learned that Qi Shen and Fang Zhi were not related at all; she was someone he had personally adopted and brought back to the Qi family.

Therefore, Qi Shen's purpose in kissing Fang Zhi in the car that day was obvious: he did not treat Fang Zhi as a younger sister.

It is not about romantic love between men and women.

If Fang Zhi liked Qi Shen, he might have given up; but what he saw was Fang Zhi's helplessness towards Qi Shen, a younger sister's respect and love for her older brother.

To stop Liu Siyi from saying anything more, Jiang Yu reached out and knocked on the window, interrupting them in advance.

"Fang Zhi, could you come out and say a few words?"

The two people in the classroom turned their heads at the same time.

The boy held onto the window with one hand. In the night, his black T-shirt made his skin look a little whiter. His eyebrows were sharp, and the arrogance in his once narrow eyes was gradually being replaced by maturity.
