The black sedan drove slowly on the asphalt road, with Qi Shen and Fang Zhi on either side of the back seat.
In front of outsiders, Qi Shen was always gentle and refined, polite yet dignified, and gentle in demeanor but not talkative.
The older brother didn't speak, and Fang Zhi wouldn't speak either, so the carriage remained quiet.
The group returned to the Qi family home with bags and packages. Wang Ma told them, "Young Master, someone came by earlier and said they were bringing school uniforms for Miss Zhizhi."
Fang Zhi's round eyes lit up, and he couldn't wait to see her school uniform.
Qi Shen nodded and gave a faint "hmm".
The young master didn't ask any other questions, and Wang Ma wouldn't answer without permission. After all, it was one thing for the master to be kind, but she was just a servant and had to remember her duty.
Fang Zhi looked up at the boy, then at Wang Ma.
She thought her brother and Aunt Wang would say a few more words about where the school uniform was, but she waited for a long time and nothing happened.
She couldn't contain herself any longer and stepped forward tentatively, asking, "Brother, may I go and look at the school uniform?"
Qi Shen curled his lips into a smile, a satisfied smile in his eyes, fleeting and almost imperceptible.
He deliberately waited for her to speak to him.
My adopted "kitten" has finally made some progress. It knows to ask for something and, more importantly, it knows who to ask.
"Okay." Qi Shen gently patted the girl's head. "Wang Ma, where is Zhizhi's school uniform?"
Then Wang Ma replied, "The ironed items have all been put into Miss Zhizhi's bedroom."
Qi Shen withdrew his hand and smiled, "Zhizhi, go and see."
"Okay, thank you, brother." Fang Zhi walked quickly, while Qi Shen followed behind her at a leisurely pace.
Upon opening the door, two identical summer school uniforms were found folded on the soft, large bed, for students to change into.
Only then did she realize that her little hand gently touched the school uniform, treating it like a precious treasure.
A figure approached a step later than her, its straight and tall figure casting a shadow on the white floral bed sheet, accompanied by a light and pleasant fragrance.
Fang Zhizhi knew it was her brother, "Brother, Zhizhi can go to school tomorrow."
"Yes." Qi Shen's voice was gentle. "Zhizhi can go to school with her brother tomorrow."
"Zhizhi," he called to her.
"Um?"
Qi Shen, adopting the demeanor of a "good older brother," gently instructed, "Have Aunt Wang come and help you wash up. Get some rest early tonight; tomorrow is the first day of school, so don't be late."
His earnest and responsible demeanor made it seem as if the girl in front of him was truly his biological sister.
Fang Zhi smiled and said, "I understand, brother."
......
The moon hangs high in the branches, and the lights of thousands of homes in Haicheng are bright. A simple and elegant bedroom is lit by a table lamp.
Qi Shen sat lazily at his desk, wearing a smooth, soft black silk pajama set, the V-neck revealing his beautiful collarbone just right.
His dark, damp, tousled hair clung to the boy's porcelain-white forehead, clearly indicating that he had just finished bathing.
The laptop in front of him was lit up, and the screen showed a boy of similar age to him.
Both men were exceptionally handsome, each with their own unique charm. Qi Shen had refined and gentle features, while the young man opposite him was gloomy and indifferent.
Unlike his usual refined and courteous demeanor, Qi Shen appeared relaxed and casual at this moment.
"You're video calling to see me?" Cheng Shiyan asked impatiently, his voice cold and deep.
He knew all too well that his childhood friends wouldn't come to him unless they needed something, so after pausing for a couple of seconds, he gave them an ultimatum: "Get to the point, I have class later."
Qi Shen slowly twirled the pen in his slender, fair fingers before saying, "I need the scar removal medicine you got for Shao Si last year."
Cheng Shiyan scoffed coldly.
In fact, he had received a message from Fu Shaosi several hours earlier, which roughly meant:
Qi, the beast, has some mysterious friend who asks him for scar removal medicine when he's injured. Don't give it to him easily; make things difficult for him first.
"How many?"
Qi Shen: "The more the better."
"What?" Cheng Shiyan raised an eyebrow. "Did the girl you secretly admire get hurt?"
Qi Shen chuckled meaningfully, "Not really, I've just raised a little pet that's covered in scars."
It was an answer that neither admitted nor denied.
Cheng Shiyan vaguely understood the meaning behind his words. His eyes flickered, and he calmly uttered two words, "Beast."
Qi Shen stroked his pen, not annoyed by the scolding.
Cheng Shiyan: "I'll send it to you by next week at the latest."
He was too lazy to agree to Fu Shaosi's request last year because he was in a bad mood at the time, but he's in a better mood now.
The other party left with their last sentence and then hung up the video call.
The desk was right next to the window, which was wide open, and the evening breeze, carrying the scent of summer, gently stirred the curtains.
There were no stars tonight. Qi Shen closed his notebook and gazed leisurely at the only bright spot in the boundless night sky.
When he was a child, while his peers were comparing themselves by raising cats and dogs, he scoffed at it and was unwilling to put in the effort.
She was found unexpectedly, and she was as fragile as a small animal.
He was bewitched and brought her back, doing his best to raise her, handling almost everything himself.
This was the first time he had put so much effort into it.
If she disappoints him in any way during the process, he's not sure what he'll do.
The boy's eyes were shrouded in a deep, dark ink, like a bottomless whirlpool from which one might be easily drawn.
Qi Shen turned his head to look at the wall, as if he could see the girl on the other side through the wall.
After his hair had dried sufficiently, he lay back down on the bed, turned off the light, and went to sleep.
......
The municipal government building was not bustling with activity like during the day, with staff rushing around.
It was extremely quiet all around at that moment, with only the cold lights shining from the ceiling in the long corridor.
