Early spring is a rainy season, and the sky is always overcast as if covered with a thin veil, but today is a rare sunny day.
The entire campus of Haicheng University is lush with greenery. A gentle breeze carries the lingering chill of winter, rustling the trees that are sprouting new buds, while sunlight filters through the branches.
In the bright and spacious dance studio, the soft classical music stopped abruptly, and the dancing girls also stopped.
"Alright." The dance teacher clapped her hands in front of the full-length mirror and looked at everyone. "Thank you for your hard work. You'll have fifteen minutes to rest. We'll continue learning in a bit."
The group of lively and energetic female students breathed a sigh of relief and chattered excitedly:
"Thank you, teacher."
"The teacher is so kind."
"The teacher looks ten years younger."
"Alright, stop joking around. Those who need to drink water, drink water; those who need to rest, rest." The dance teacher smiled as she glanced at them, her gaze settling on the pretty, delicate-looking girl on the far left of the first row. Her form-fitting dance costume accentuated her curves, especially her slender waist, which looked so soft and delicate it seemed almost too fragile to be grasped. She paused, then added, "Oh, right, Fang Zhi, come here and give me a little nudge."
As soon as she finished speaking, the students dispersed.
Fang Zhi, whose name was called, walked towards the teacher, leaving only the two of them in the empty space in front of the dance mirror.
Aren't you going to participate in this year's school performance?
Fang Zhi shook his head and said softly, "No."
"Fang Zhi, I'm not saying this to criticize you," the dance teacher said, sounding somewhat exasperated. "Go back and talk to your family. You're the most talented student I've ever taught, and I don't want your talent to be hidden."
The school holds an arts festival every autumn.
This year's autumn arts festival is more important than in previous years, as some of the most prominent figures in the dance world are attending.
She has been teaching dance for many years and has taught thousands, if not tens of thousands, of students, among whom Fang Zhi is her favorite.
Fang Zhi rejected him both of the previous two years.
She still hasn't given up this year; what teacher wouldn't want to see their most outstanding student succeed?
But she really couldn't understand what Fang Zhi's family was thinking, since Fang Zhi was clearly so outstanding and exceptional.
Some parents are surprisingly unwilling to see their children shine brightly on stage.
"Thank you, teacher." Fang Zhi lowered her eyes, her long eyelashes concealing the emotions in them. "I know you mean well, but you don't need to persuade me anymore."
"We haven't decided on the lead dancer for our department this year yet." The dance teacher sighed and patiently advised, "I know your family is well-off, but you also need to think about what will happen after graduation. Studying dance is different from other majors; we're competing for a reputation that's good for employment and other aspects."
"Let me tell you something: this year's arts festival is an opportunity. If you can seize it, your future will definitely not stop here."
Seeing that the girl remained silent with her head down, the dance teacher sighed regretfully, "Never mind. Think about it some more. I won't say anything more. Go and rest."
"Okay." Fang Zhi then raised his head and nodded politely to the woman. "Teacher, I'll go now."
Rest area on the right wall.
A girl with her hair in a bun glanced at Fang Zhi, who was walking towards them, then turned her head and whispered to her nearby companion, "Shuyao, do you think the teacher kept Fang Zhi behind because of the lead dancer thing?"
Guo Shuyao was chatting and laughing with someone when she heard this. Her beautiful smile disappeared, her lips pressed into a straight line with a hint of resentment, and her tone turned cold. "I don't know."
"Seriously," another companion chimed in, "Why are you telling Yao Yao all this? Our Yao Yao has been the lead dancer for two years in a row, what's one more time?"
"Can you guys please stop talking?" Guo Shuyao wasn't comforted by these words at all; instead, her expression grew increasingly unpleasant. "So annoying."
Only now do I realize, only now do I realize, only now do I realize.
She was like a stone weighing on her head. From her freshman year of college until now, when it came to family background, no one in the class knew anything about Fang Zhi's background, yet they all said that her family was the best.
When it comes to professional skills, she always picks what Fang Zhi doesn't want, even as the lead dancer in the previous two arts festivals.
Even her appearance, which she has always been proud of, is considered inferior to Fang Zhi's by some.
She was the most dazzling one in the crowd during high school, but when she entered Ocean University, she became Fang Zhi's foil.
After Guo Shuyao finished throwing her tantrum, she stood up and left the classroom, leaving the atmosphere in the remaining small group awkward.
The girls exchanged glances, their unspoken understanding evident in their eyes.
"She has quite a temper..."
"What else can we do?"
They are two people from Class Two.
One is Guo Shuyao, and the other is Fang Zhi.
Fang Zhi is good-looking, has a gentle and mild personality, and usually keeps a low profile. However, she does not live on campus and is rarely seen except when attending classes. She maintains a certain distance from her classmates, as if no one can get into her heart.
That's why they idolize Guo Shuyao.
"Look, everyone!"
One of the girls, who had been playing on her phone, looked up and exclaimed, attracting everyone's attention.
Forgetting the unpleasantness from earlier, they all crowded around, asking, "What's wrong?"
The girl held up her phone, looked at the news headline, and read aloud:
"A Wedding of the Century: The wedding of Cheng Shiyan, the current president of Cheng's Group, the country's leading conglomerate, and Lin Yisheng, the daughter of Lin's Group, was held as scheduled in Haicheng, marking a powerful alliance between the two conglomerates..."
The accompanying picture shows a convoy of cars that stretches as far as the eye can see, all of them luxury vehicles.
"The name Lin Yisheng sounds familiar."
"She also graduated from Ocean University; she was our senior. She graduated the year we entered the university. I heard she was the undisputed campus beauty of her year, and she could easily outshine everyone in our art college, which is full of beauties."
