Chapter 67 Someone is Jealous of His Son

As Su Niannian's mother, Su's mother couldn't bear to see this situation occur.

She would rather her daughter remain unattainable as she is now than obtain it and then lose it.

Si Lijue dropped his nonchalant expression and answered seriously, "I've thought it through, please grant my request, Auntie."

Although he didn't think as much as Su's mother did, he was just as responsible and accountable as she should be.

His main purpose in getting married to Su Niannian was to allow Xibao to rightfully return to her ancestral home, smoothly take over all the family members, and establish a deep relationship with the Si family.

Even if they separate a year later, he will make sure Su Niannian has everything planned out and will not mistreat her, so that she can live a life free from want for the rest of her life.

Su's mother shifted her gaze to her daughter's face and asked again, "What about you? Have you made up your mind?"

Su Niannian knew that her marriage certificate with Si Lijue was just a formality, and the real purpose was to register Xibao's household registration.

The two of them were only getting married by agreement and would divorce a year later, so there was no need to seriously consider too many issues.

She had no reservations and answered her mother directly, "Mom, I've made up my mind."

Seeing that both of them had made up their minds, Su's mother had no choice but to compromise for the sake of her grandson whom she had not yet met.

"Since you've both made up your minds, I won't stop you. I just hope you won't regret it later." With that, she walked towards the bedroom on the second floor.

After Su's mother left, only Su Niannian and Si Lijue remained in the living room.

They listened to the constant clanging of pots and pans coming from the kitchen, looked at each other with different expressions.

Si Lijue frowned slightly, thinking to himself: since he arrived at the door, not a single person has poured him water, and he hasn't even had a sip of water from the Su family.

Then look at your eldest son. He hasn't even arrived yet, but everyone is already busy preparing all sorts of delicious food for him.

This stark contrast involuntarily stirred a pang of sorrow in his heart.

He snorted and said with a hint of sarcasm, "Heh, I really didn't expect that Xibao would be so popular in your family."

Look at all of you, especially your father and uncle, with that kind of enthusiasm, they practically want to give their hearts to Xibao.

After saying that, he glanced at the busy figures in the kitchen with a complicated look in his eyes, and the sense of imbalance in his heart grew stronger.

"Huh? Why do I smell a strong scent of vinegar?" Su Niannian's round eyes darted around slightly as she looked at Si Lijue sitting next to her with a half-smile. She smiled and said with a hint of teasing, "Mr. Si, you wouldn't happen to be jealous of your own son, would you?"

Si Lijue felt a little guilty after being exposed, but he pretended to be indifferent and said stubbornly, "Are you kidding me? How could I be jealous of my son? Don't talk nonsense."

Looking at his handsome yet slightly gloomy face, Su Niannian's eyes sparkled with curiosity as she continued to ask, "President Si! You're really not jealous?"

"No, you underestimate me. How could I possibly be jealous of a four-year-old?" Si Lijue's eyes darted away, avoiding Su Niannian's gaze.

"It's good that you're not jealous." Su Niannian suppressed the urge to laugh out loud and patiently explained, "Xibao is their grandson, they are related by blood, so it's inevitable that they love Xibao."

But you're different. You're the one who took their daughter away; it's already a miracle they don't hold a grudge against you.

Si Lijue gazed thoughtfully at the woman before him with his deep eyes. "Why are you explaining so much to me? What are you worried about?"

He really wanted to know what Su Niannian was thinking. She simply cared about his feelings and was worried that he would be sad and upset because he was being ignored.

Or were they afraid that he might harm the Su family if he got angry?

In her heart, who is more important, him or the Su family?

Su Niannian suppressed her smile, pondered for a moment, and then looked at him earnestly, "I'm worried you'll be sad if you feel neglected..."

"You really just want to care about me?" Si Lijue's lifeless eyes suddenly lit up, and the frustration in his heart eased.

“Yes!” Su Niannian winked playfully. “Does President Si expect me to care about others?”

"I don't want to," Si Lijue answered decisively. "In this lifetime, you can only care about one man: me."

"I'm afraid that won't work!" Su Niannian shook her head and refused without hesitation.

"Who else do you want to care about?" Si Lijue's face darkened abruptly, his tone unfriendly.

This man's face is like the weather in June, how can it change so quickly?

Su Niannian pretended not to see the change in his expression, "My father and Xibao are both men, are you not allowed to care about them?"

They are the people who gave me life and the people I gave life to; they are very important to me.

If you don't even let me care about them, it will only make you seem domineering and forceful, and I won't listen to you, because I simply can't ignore them.

“They don’t count!” Si Lijue knew he couldn’t compare to Xibao and Su’s father, so he had to exclude them.

Su Niannian continued, "My uncle watched me grow up since I was little, and he loves me like his own daughter. He cooks all sorts of delicious food for me every day, so he is very important to me."

Si Lijue rubbed his forehead and sighed helplessly, "He doesn't count either."

He shouldn't have brought up this topic with her; he was just asking for trouble.

Su Niannian smiled, her eyes fixed on Si Lijue, and suddenly uttered two words: "Thank you!"

"Huh?" Si Lijue asked in surprise, "Why are you thanking me?"

Su Niannian replied, "Thank you for bringing Xibao to the Su family so that he can meet our family."

Si Lijue gave Su Niannian a deep look. "Xibao is their grandson, so he should come and pay his respects to them. You don't need to be so polite with me."

Actually, he had his own selfish reasons for bringing Xibao over.

In order to successfully obtain the household registration booklet, he took advantage of the elders' eagerness to dote on their grandson.

Su Niannian took it as Si Lijue being polite and didn't think much of it.

She quickly poured him a glass of water and placed it in front of him, saying, "You must be thirsty, right? Drink some water!"

"Not bad, you actually thought of pouring me some water. I thought I wouldn't even get a sip of water at your house today."

Si Lijue's lips curled up almost imperceptibly. He said things that were detrimental to others but not to himself, but he was extremely happy inside.

He picked up the water glass in front of him and drank most of it in one gulp.

"President Si, don't judge a gentleman by your own petty standards. Even if the Su family is ignorant of etiquette, we would never refuse to let you drink a drop of water."

Su Niannian wanted to say a few more words, but when she saw her mother appear at the bottom of the stairs, she didn't want to make things too awkward, so she immediately shut her mouth.

Then, Su's mother came down with the household registration booklet, walked straight to them, and handed the booklet to Su Niannian.

"Niannian, I'm giving you your household registration book. You're all grown up now and have a child. Whether you want to get a marriage certificate with him or not is your choice."

After all, life is a long journey, and Mom hopes you can make the choice that best suits you and brings you happiness.
