Chen Qingchen had been sensing a strange atmosphere within the company for the past few days. Orders were being inexplicably canceled, some key partners seemed to be deliberately distancing themselves, and even the company's internal operations were experiencing minor glitches, as if an invisible hand was stirring things up. He sat in his spacious office, brow furrowed, his gaze fixed on the mountain of documents on his desk, trying to find some clue among them.
He recalled a phone call a few days ago with an old client he had worked with for many years. The other party was evasive on the phone, and his usual hearty laughter was gone, replaced by an indescribable awkwardness and evasion. Shen Qingchen felt something was wrong at the time. When he asked further, the old client just vaguely said that there were some internal adjustments and that they could not continue the cooperation for the time being. Shen Qingchen knew that this was just an excuse. Based on his understanding of this client, something serious must have happened to make them make such a decision.
He flipped through the recent business reports again, and the steadily declining figures only deepened his confusion. The company had been steadily growing, with clear plans and execution plans for each business. How could so many problems suddenly arise? He called his secretary over and asked in detail about recent communications with various departments. The secretary, with a look of frustration, explained that all departments were operating normally and that they hadn't noticed any significant anomalies. It just felt like the sudden increase in external pressure had inexplicably made many things difficult.
Chen Qingchen stood up and walked to the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, overlooking the bustling city. The streets were bustling with traffic, the crowds bustling with people; the city was still vibrant, but his company seemed mired in confusion. He began to think about possible reasons. Was it a new tactic by a competitor? But he hadn't heard of any major competitive moves in the industry recently. Was it someone within the company who leaked confidential information? However, the company's confidentiality measures were always strict, and he had full trust in his employees.
He sat back down at his desk, picked up a pen, and began scribbling on paper. He listed all the company's recent projects, partners, and potential rivals with which he could create a conflict of interest. He analyzed each one, but still couldn't find a clue. His fingers tapped the tabletop, a rhythmic sound, as if pacing his thoughts.
At this moment, his cell phone suddenly rang. It was an unfamiliar number. Shen Qingchen hesitated for a moment, but still picked up the phone. A deep voice came from the other end of the phone: "Mr. Shen, hello. Is your company feeling a bit of a headache now?" Shen Qingchen's heart tightened, and he immediately became alert and asked: "Who are you? How do you know the situation of my company?" The other party sneered: "It doesn't matter who I am. What's important is that you should think carefully now. Who have you offended?" After that, the phone was hung up.
Shen Qingchen looked at the phone in his hand, and the confusion in his heart was replaced by a sense of uneasiness. He knew that there must be a deep conspiracy behind this, and he was now like a person groping in the dark, unable to find the direction. He stood up again and paced back and forth in the office. He thought of Jiang Zhi, wondering if she had noticed anything unusual in the company. Jiang Zhi was a smart woman with a strong insight. Maybe she could find something that he had overlooked.
He decided to go find Jiang Zhi and have a proper discussion with her. On the way to meet Jiang Zhi, his mind raced with various possible scenarios. He thought about the recent rumors in the industry. While most of them were nonsense, it now seemed that there might be fragments of truth hidden in them. He also thought about the years of grievances and hatreds in his family business. Could it be that some old rivals had suddenly turned against him at this moment?
After meeting Jiang Zhi, Shen Qingchen explained the company's situation in detail. Jiang Zhi's face was also solemn after hearing this. She began to ask Shen Qingchen about some of the company's recent major decisions, personnel changes, and relationships with competitors. Shen Qingchen answered them one by one. In the process, he suddenly realized that he might have been too focused on immediate benefits in some decisions, while ignoring the potential risks behind them.
Jiang Zhi analyzed, "Judging from the current situation, this isn't a simple commercial competition tactic. If it's a competitor, their approach is too subtle. They don't directly target the company's core business, but instead slowly infiltrate from the side, as if they're laying out a larger conspiracy." Shen Qingchen nodded in agreement. He said, "I feel the same way, but I just can't figure out who's behind this."
Jiang Zhi pondered for a while and said, "Let's start from within the company and review all recent documents and personnel transaction records. Maybe we can find some clues." Shen Qingchen thought this method was feasible, and he immediately arranged for people to do as Jiang Zhi suggested.
While awaiting the results of the investigation, Shen Qingchen remained bewildered. He wondered if this was a conspiracy against him or his family, then the person behind it must have a deep hatred or a huge vested interest. He reflected on his life, from the time he took over the family business, he had fought his way up, and while he had offended some people, none had ever caused such ruthlessness.
He suddenly thought of his family's past. Throughout its history, the family had faced rivals, fierce rivalries that even involved shady tactics. Could it be that those same individuals, or their descendants, were making a comeback at this very moment? The thought sent a chill down his spine. He knew that the business world was like a battlefield, where some grudges could linger for generations.
After returning to the company, the investigation results were still not out. Shen Qingchen sat in the office, feeling that every minute and every second passed by incomparably long. He looked at the photos of the family business's development history hanging on the wall, his heart filled with respect for his ancestors, and at the same time, he felt the responsibility on his shoulders. He secretly vowed that no matter who the enemy behind him was, he must protect the family business and protect Jiang Zhi.
