Shen Qingchen sat in his office, brow furrowed, looking at the pile of documents on his desk, but he had no idea what to do. Jiang Yao's affairs were vexing him, and the investigation into the truth of his father's murder was also in trouble. He felt as if he was caught in a huge whirlpool, unable to extricate himself.
Ever since Jiang Yao appeared in his life, everything has become a mess. She's like a constant nuisance, constantly pestering him. Shen Qingchen knows Jiang Yao is jealous of Jiang Zhi, and he sees all her childish provocations and difficult behaviors, but he can't clearly stop her. On the one hand, he can't let Jiang Yao realize that he is deliberately protecting Jiang Zhi, lest he attract the attention of his enemies behind the scenes and endanger Jiang Zhi's safety; on the other hand, he doesn't want to be too entangled with Jiang Yao, but just to maintain the surface illusion, he has to tolerate her presence.
Every day, Shen Qingchen had to deal with Jiang Yao's constant pestering. She would show up in his office unannounced, feigning concern and bringing him a cup of coffee, then take the opportunity to chat with him, trying to get closer. Shen Qingchen could only perfunctorily respond, but his heart was filled with disgust. In various company settings, Jiang Yao would deliberately act intimate with him in front of everyone, making Shen Qingchen feel extremely embarrassed. He knew Jiang Zhi might see these scenes, and he felt filled with guilt towards her.
"Mr. Shen, this is the information for today's meeting." The secretary's voice interrupted Shen Qingchen's thoughts. He raised his head, took the information, and forced a smile to express his gratitude. The secretary looked at his tired appearance and felt a little worried, but did not dare to ask more questions and quietly retreated.
Shen Qingchen flipped through the documents, trying to concentrate on preparing for the meeting, but Jiang Zhi's image kept resurfacing in his mind. He recalled the good times they had shared, those heartwarming moments now a source of pain. He wondered how Jiang Zhi was doing, whether she was still heartbroken by his unfeeling. He longed to call her, to check in on her and share his struggles, but he knew he couldn't. Everything he did now was to protect her, so he could only silently endure the pain and helplessness.
The meeting began, and Shen Qingchen forced himself to be alert and presided over the meeting. However, his heart was not in the meeting, and his thoughts kept drifting away. When discussing the plan for an important project, he was distracted, and it was not until his subordinates reminded him that he came back to his senses. He smiled awkwardly, then quickly adjusted his state and continued to participate in the discussion. But he knew in his heart that his recent state was really bad. If it continued like this, it would not only affect his work, but also delay the investigation of the truth of his father's murder.
After the meeting, Shen Qingchen returned to his office exhausted and slumped in his chair. He rubbed his temples, trying to ease the headache. Then, his phone rang. It was Jiang Yao calling. He looked at the name on the screen, feeling annoyed, but he still picked up the phone.
"Qingchen, are you free tonight? I want to have dinner with you." Jiang Yao's gentle voice came from the other end of the phone.
“I have work to deal with in the evening and don’t have time.” Shen Qingchen replied coldly.
"Oh, no matter how busy you are at work, you still have to eat. Just keep me company." Jiang Yao said coquettishly.
"I said I don't have time, don't bother me anymore." Shen Qingchen said, and then hung up the phone. His patience with Jiang Yao had reached its limit, and he didn't want to have any unnecessary contact with her anymore.
Putting down his phone, Shen Qingchen leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes. He felt exhausted, both physically and mentally. Not only did he have to deal with Jiang Yao's entanglement, but he also had to secretly investigate the truth of his father's murder. He knew that only by finding the truth quickly could he put an end to it all and be with Jiang Zhi again. He began to organize his thoughts, thinking about the next direction of the investigation.
He recalled some recent clues that pointed to Jiang Lingchuan and his stepmother, Gu Manqi, but they weren't conclusive enough. He needed more evidence to prove they were the murderers of his father. He decided to start with his father's interpersonal relationships, investigating whether there had been any unusual contact or conflicts between him, Jiang Lingchuan, and Gu Manqi before his father's accident.
Shen Qingchen picked up the phone and dialed a friend's number. This friend was a private detective who had helped Shen Qingchen deal with some things before, and Shen Qingchen trusted his ability very much.
"Hello, Lao Zhang, I'm Shen Qingchen. I have something I want to ask you for help with." Shen Qingchen said.
"Mr. Shen, just tell me what's the matter." Lao Zhang on the other end of the phone replied.
"I want you to help me investigate the whereabouts and activities of Jiang Lingchuan and Gu Manqi before my father's accident, to see if they are related to my father's death. Especially their financial dealings and interpersonal relationships, are there any abnormalities?" Shen Qingchen said.
"Okay, Mr. Shen, I understand. I will investigate as soon as possible and I will inform you if there is any news." Lao Zhang said.
After hanging up the phone, Shen Qingchen felt a little relieved. With Lao Zhang's help, he believed that the investigation would go more smoothly. He began to deal with some work matters, trying to keep himself busy and forget those troubles for a while.
However, not long after, Jiang Yao came to his office again. She didn't knock, but walked in directly, holding a document in her hand.
"Qingchen, this document needs your signature." Jiang Yao said, walked to Shen Qingchen's desk, and placed the document in front of him.
Shen Qingchen glanced at the document and found that it was not an urgent document and could be dealt with tomorrow. He knew that Jiang Yao was deliberately making an excuse to see him, and he felt even more annoyed.
