Jiang Zhi clutched the pen she'd used countless times to sign important business documents, yet this time, it left a heavy mark on the divorce agreement. Each stroke seemed to cut another wound in her already broken heart, and pain spread throughout her body. She looked across at Shen Qingchen, trying to find a trace of the tenderness and affection he once had in his deep, cold eyes, but she only saw a chilling indifference.
Once, they strolled along the moonlit beach, Shen Qingchen gently holding her in his arms, whispering vows of everlasting love in her ear; once, they cooked delicious meals together in their cozy home, their laughter echoing in every corner; once, on nights when she caught a cold, Shen Qingchen stayed up all night, caring for her attentively. His anxious eyes and gentle comfort made her believe that this man would be her lifelong support. But now, all of this was shattered like bubbles, dissipating in the cold air.
Jiang Zhi slowly put down her pen, feeling as if her entire world was crumbling. She looked around, the familiar furniture and decor, each one carrying sweet memories of their past. That soft sofa, where they'd cuddled together, sharing the day's joys; that bright window, where they'd stood side by side, dreaming of a beautiful future; their wedding photo hanging on the wall, the two of them beaming with smiles, their eyes filled with love. And now, all of this became the sharpest blade that stung her heart.
She silently stood up, dragging her legs, which felt like they were filled with lead, to the bedroom to pack her things. The exquisite clothes in the closet were carefully selected by Shen Qingchen for her, each piece filled with his doting love for her; the jewelry on the dressing table gleamed under the light, but could no longer illuminate her gloomy heart. She picked up a piece of clothing, gently stroking it with her fingers, tears welling in her eyes, blurring her vision. She fought back the tears and stuffed the clothes into the suitcase.
While tidying her desk, she came across a photo album. Opening it, page after page was filled with photos of them. There were pictures of them traveling in front of beautiful scenery, joyful moments at friends' gatherings, and every meaningful moment they had spent together. Jiang Zhi's hands trembled. She wanted to take the album with her, but she was afraid that seeing the photos would only make her more painful. Ultimately, she closed the album and put it in her suitcase, as if sealing away these beautiful memories as well.
As she slowly walked out of the house, her suitcase in hand, she felt as if her soul had been torn from her body. She didn't look back, knowing that if she did, seeing the home that was once filled with joy and laughter, and the man she once loved, she might completely collapse. Tears streamed down her cheeks, soaking her collar. She silently told herself, "This relationship may have truly ended, but the pain in my heart will never be erased."
Jiang Zhi dragged her suitcase, walking aimlessly down the street. The hustle and bustle of the city echoed in her ears, yet it felt as if separated from her by a layer of transparent glass. She felt like an orphan abandoned by the world. She didn't know how long she had walked, nor how far she had gone. Only when her legs ached and she could no longer walk did she sit down on a street bench.
She looked at the people coming and going, feeling a mixture of emotions. Some couples walked hand in hand, the girl's face filled with happy smiles, the boy looking at her tenderly, just like Shen Qingchen and her in the past; some families happily strolled around the street, children running happily between their parents. The warm scene made Jiang Zhi's heart ache. She hugged her arms tightly, trying to give herself some warmth, but found that the coldness in her heart could not be dispelled.
As the sky gradually darkened, Jiang Zhi got up and found a hotel to stay in. She walked into the room, closed the door, and slowly slid down to the floor with her back against the door. The silence in the room made her feel suffocated. Shen Qingchen's figure and every bit of their past kept appearing in her mind. She covered her ears painfully, trying to stop these memories, but found it was useless.
During this long and painful night, Jiang Zhi lay in bed, tossing and turning, unable to fall asleep. She looked out the window at the starry sky and prayed silently in her heart, hoping that this endless pain would end soon and that she could find her way in life again.
The author has something to say:
This chapter marks a major emotional turning point for Jiang Zhi, as she experiences a profound shift from happiness to despair. During the writing process, I focused on depicting her inner pain and struggle, creating a stark contrast through the depiction of memories, allowing readers to more deeply empathize with her heartbreak. For Jiang Zhi, divorce marks not only the end of a relationship but also a profound blow to her life. However, it also marks the beginning of her journey toward independence and growth. The subsequent story will revolve around her rise from adversity. I hope you will continue to follow Jiang Zhi's journey of revenge and self-redemption.
