Jiang Zhi has long been alone on this long and arduous investigation. Chasing each clue feels like groping in the dark, with danger lurking around her. She has a child with her, and she dares not let her guard down even for a moment. The child is still young and needs her careful attention, but the quest for revenge and the truth weigh heavily on her heart.
It was a gloomy afternoon. Following a faint clue, Jiang Zhi arrived near an abandoned factory. Once a thriving site, it now lay in ruins, rusted ironwork and broken glass scattered across the landscape. Overgrown with weeds, the air permeated with an air of decay and desolation. Jiang Zhi approached cautiously, placing the child in a secluded and relatively safe corner. She whispered a few words of advice. Though the child could not quite understand her words, the firmness and tenderness in her eyes seemed to comfort him.
Crouching low, she moved like a ghost through the ruins. Suddenly, the sound of footsteps alerted her. She tensed instantly, ducking behind a thick concrete pillar, her eyes fixed on the direction of the sound. A figure also loomed among the ruins, equally cautious. Jiang Zhi's heart tightened, thinking it was an assassin sent by a mysterious organization. She quietly clenched her homemade self-defense weapon, a simple stick made of hard branches and cloth strips. Though crude, it unleashed considerable power in her hands.
As the figure approached, Jiang Zhi was about to launch a surprise attack when the other person suddenly stopped and whispered, "Miss Jiang Zhi, wait a minute." Jiang Zhi was startled by the voice. She poked her head out from behind a pillar and carefully examined the person before her. He was a middle-aged man with a slightly weathered face, but his eyes shone with determination and wisdom. He was wearing a long black trench coat, a bit worn, but clean and tidy, and he exuded an extraordinary aura.
Jiang Zhi frowned and asked warily, "Who are you? How do you know my name?" The middle-aged man sighed slightly and said, "My name is Lin Yu. I know you are investigating the annihilation of Tang Junxi's family and the death of Shen Qingchen's father. I have been investigating these matters as well, because my family was also murdered by Jiang Lingchuan. We have a common enemy." Jiang Zhi was shocked. She didn't expect to meet someone with the same experience as her in this seemingly isolated situation. But she didn't let down her guard immediately. After all, in this complex and dangerous situation, any negligence could be fatal.
She examined Lin Yu and said, "You say your family was murdered by Jiang Lingchuan. What evidence do you have? Why should I believe you?" Lin Yu slowly pulled a worn notebook from his pocket and handed it to Jiang Zhi. "This is my family's diary. It records some of Jiang Lingchuan's interactions with my family, and how he set traps, gradually pushing my family into the abyss. Take a look. There are some clues about that mysterious organization. Although not much, they may be useful to you." Jiang Zhi took the notebook and quickly flipped through it. She found that although the handwriting was a little sloppy, the content was clearly organized, detailing many unknown secret transactions and conspiracies. It mentioned Jiang Lingchuan's contact with the mysterious organization and how they used various means to eliminate dissidents.
After reading it, Jiang Zhi felt a little more convinced of Lin Yu's words, but she still said, "This only shows that your family has a conflict with Jiang Lingchuan, not that we are allies." Lin Yu nodded and said, "I understand your caution. I also know that the mysterious organization has a secret base in the east of the city, where they often conduct some shady transactions. I have been secretly monitoring that place and found that they seem to be plotting a larger conspiracy recently, which may be closely related to what you are investigating." Jiang Zhi's heart moved. The secret base in the east was a clue she had never had before. After thinking for a moment, she said, "Then why are you telling me this? What is your purpose?" Lin Yu looked at Jiang Zhi with a hint of sincerity in his eyes. He said, "I know that I can't compete with them alone. I have been observing you for a long time. Although you are a woman, you possess extraordinary courage and wisdom. I believe that only by working together can we uncover the truth and avenge our family."
Jiang Zhi was silent for a moment. She looked at the notebook in her hand and thought about the hardships and dangers of her own investigation. A decision gradually came to her mind. She raised her head, looked at Lin Yu, and said, "Okay, I'll trust you for now. But you must know that if I discover any illegal intentions of yours, I will show no mercy." Lin Yu smiled slightly with relief and said, "Of course, I will prove my sincerity with my actions."
From that day on, Jiang Zhi and Lin Yu began their collaboration. They often met in secluded corners, exchanging clues. Lin Yu brought Jiang Zhi to the location where he had previously monitored the mysterious organization's base. It was a seemingly ordinary warehouse, but it was surrounded by various secret guards and surveillance equipment. They hid in an abandoned building in the distance, observing the warehouse through binoculars.
"Look, there are vehicles coming in and out every night. The windows of these vehicles are dark, so you can't see what's going on inside. But I suspect they must be filled with something related to their conspiracy," Lin Yu said, pointing at the warehouse. Jiang Zhi observed carefully and found that the warehouse door was closed and the surrounding security measures were very strict. It would be difficult to get in and investigate.
"We have to find a way to sneak in," Jiang Zhi said. Lin Yu nodded and said, "I tried to get close before, but they were too vigilant. However, I noticed that they change a group of security personnel every once in a while. Maybe we can start from there." Jiang Zhi thought for a moment and said, "We can pretend to be people applying for security positions. That way, we might be able to get closer to the warehouse." Lin Yu's eyes lit up and said, "That's a good idea. But we also need to prepare some fake identification and related information."
