Throughout Jiang Zhi's arduous investigation, fate quietly wove an unexpected surprise. On a seemingly ordinary day, yet destined to be extraordinary, Jiang Zhi began to experience unusual symptoms. Initially, it was just a slight discomfort, which she dismissed as fatigue from days of travel. However, as time passed, the dull pain in her abdomen and the fatigue grew more pronounced.
Jiang Zhi felt a surge of unease. Drawing on her medical knowledge, she keenly sensed that her body's changes might be more than simple. She endured the discomfort and sought a relatively safe and secluded spot to rest. As she did so, she repeatedly took her pulse, carefully sensing its subtle changes. Her suspicions were gradually confirmed—she was pregnant, and most likely twins. This discovery sent a whirlwind of emotions through her: joy at impending motherhood, trepidation, and a deep worry about the unknown dangers ahead.
She knew she was in a dangerous environment, with spies from mysterious organizations lurking around her at any moment. If news of her pregnancy leaked, not only would her life be seriously threatened, but her unborn child would also be in extreme danger. Amidst this complex web of emotions, Jiang Zhi resolved to protect these two little lives at all costs.
As her pregnancy progressed, Jiang Zhi faced increasing difficulties. Finding a safe and stable place to live became her primary concern. She was forced to travel extensively, relying on her ingenuity and the connections she had accumulated to find a simple but relatively secluded place in a remote corner of the city. It was an old, ramshackle hut, overgrown with weeds and with crumbling walls. It appeared dilapidated, yet precisely because of this, it drew little attention.
Jiang Zhi began her solitary pregnancy. Every morning, she would rise early, ensuring her surroundings were safe, and go out to search for food and essential supplies. Her limited mobility and the need for constant vigilance made these simple tasks incredibly difficult. She often had to take long detours, avoiding crowded areas and choosing secluded alleys and paths. She was also extremely cautious when shopping for food, choosing small, unassuming shops and buying only enough to last a few days, to avoid frequent outings and exposing her whereabouts.
The discomfort of pregnancy also tormented her. Severe morning sickness left her unable to eat, weakening her body. But she knew she had to force herself to eat for the sake of her child. She carefully selected nutritious foods, and even though the smell sometimes made her nauseous, she forced herself to swallow them. At night, she often struggled to sleep, not only having to endure the pain and discomfort but also having to constantly monitor her surroundings, waking up at the slightest movement.
Throughout this lonely and difficult journey, Jiang Zhi would occasionally think of Shen Qingchen. Recalling the sweet moments they had shared, those heartwarming memories were like a ray of light in the darkness, offering her a moment of comfort. However, the thought of Shen Qingchen's initial resolute decision to divorce her brought a wave of pain that washed over her, instantly drowning out that glimmer of warmth. She told herself that she could no longer rely on anyone; she had to face everything alone and with strength.
Finally, the day of birth arrived. It was a blustery night, the sky thick with dark clouds, and thunder and lightning seemed to foreshadow the difficult times to come. Jiang Zhi struggled in agony in the hut, beads of sweat rolling down her forehead, soaking her hair and clothes. She bit her lip tightly, enduring the excruciating pain and trying not to make any noise, fearing unnecessary trouble.
Relying on her medical knowledge and strong will, she diligently controlled her breathing, trying various methods to ease the pain and facilitate labor. Each contraction felt like a massive tsunami, drowning her in endless agony, but she never gave up. After several long and agonizing hours, with a resounding cry, her younger sister was the first to enter the world. Her delicate, wrinkled face resembled that of a little old man, but in Jiang Zhi's eyes, she was like an angel descended to earth, the most beautiful being on earth.
Jiang Zhi had no time to rest, knowing there was another child waiting for her. After a brief respite, she mustered her courage and faced the next challenge. After what felt like a century, her brother was born. His eyes sparkled, revealing a clever spirit as he gazed curiously at this unfamiliar world.
Jiang Zhi looked at the two little lives beside her, her heart filled with endless love and tenderness. She gently stroked the children's faces, tears glistening in her eyes. In that moment, all the pain and hardship vanished, leaving only the joy and happiness of being a mother. However, the reality of danger soon sobered her up.
She knew that she had to make arrangements as soon as possible to ensure the safety of her children. After careful consideration, she decided to conceal the existence of her son for the time being and only let Shen Qingchen know about her daughter. She hoped that her daughter could be a link between herself and Shen Qingchen, and also leave a support for her daughter's future. In the following days, while taking care of the children, Jiang Zhi did not stop investigating the mysterious organization. She often sat alone in the dim light after the children fell asleep, carefully studying the clues she had collected, her eyes revealing a firm determination. She knew that the road ahead was still full of dangers and challenges, but for the sake of her children and her family, she had to persevere, no matter what the cost.
As time went by, the children grew older. The younger sister grew more charming and endearing. Her smile was like the spring sunshine, warm and bright, able to dispel all the haze in Jiang Zhi's heart. Her hair became softer and smoother, like black satin. Every time Jiang Zhi saw her, she couldn't help but want to hold her tightly in her arms. The younger sister was full of curiosity about everything around her. She would observe the people and things around her with her innocent eyes, and her little mouth would often make babbling sounds, as if she was having a unique conversation with the world.
