Jiang Zhi's postpartum days were already incredibly difficult due to the many unexpected events. Her body hadn't fully recovered, and she was constantly worried about Tang Junxi's unrequited revenge and her tangled relationship with Chen Qingchen. And now, Jiang Yao's insane jealousy weighed heavily on her heart like a thick cloud.
On that ordinary yet destined-to-be-turbulent afternoon, Jiang Zhi sat by the window, gently coaxing her twins to sleep. The younger sister's tiny hands clutched tightly at the hem of her clothes, her cheeks flushed, her face as peaceful as the most delicate spring flower. Her brother, beside her, blinked brightly, seemingly fighting off sleepiness, occasionally uttering a few soft hums. Jiang Zhi looked at the children, her heart filled with love and warmth, and also with a strong sense of mission: she must protect them.
Suddenly, a faint, unusual sound echoed from afar. It was so subtle, almost imperceptible, like the rustling of leaves in the breeze, but Jiang Zhina's intuition, sharpened by countless trials, instantly detected something unusual. Her eyes instantly became as sharp as a hawk's, and her body involuntarily tensed, like a cheetah facing danger, her senses heightened to the extreme.
She gently placed the child in her arms, her movements as gentle as if they were the most precious treasure in the world, fearing to disturb their sweet dreams. Then, she stood up silently and, like a nimble shadow, approached the window. Carefully, she opened the curtains a tiny crack and peeked out. She saw a few hurried strangers on the street, their eyes flickering. They seemed to glance around casually, but they paused at key corners and intersections, their steps hesitant, as if they were searching for something but didn't want to be noticed. Jiang Zhi's heart sank. Years of experience in the martial arts world told her that these people were no good and were likely assassins or spies sent by Jiang Yao.
Jiang Zhi knew she couldn't stay here for long. She quickly returned to her room and began packing her essentials. Her movements were swift and orderly, without a trace of panic, each one revealing her calmness and decisiveness. She packed the children's essentials, important documents, and some of her own weapons and medicine into a specially crafted backpack. This backpack had been carefully prepared, with its compact and well-organized contents, making it both easy to carry and quick to access in a critical moment.
As she packed up, Jiang Zhi's mind raced with countermeasures. She knew that now that Jiang Yao had begun her campaign, she wouldn't let her and her child off easily, and she was likely already setting a tight net around them. She had to find a safe place to hide temporarily, while also devising a way to handle Jiang Yao's continued pursuit. She thought of an abandoned factory she had once discovered on the edge of the city. It was remote, with a complex environment, many hidden passages and hiding places, and relatively convenient transportation, making it easy to evacuate quickly if necessary.
Jiang Zhi carefully wrapped the child in a warm swaddle and carried him on her back, ensuring their safety and comfort. She checked the room again, confirming that there were no clues that might reveal her whereabouts, and then resolutely left the house.
She chose a rarely traveled path, a winding one, lined with weeds that largely obscured her view. Jiang Zhi moved quickly along the path, her steps light and nimble, like a deer darting through the jungle. She kept a constant eye on her surroundings, her ears like radar, picking up any unusual sounds.
After walking for a while, Jiang Zhi arrived at a bustling market. She knew it was easiest to conceal her whereabouts in such crowded and crowded places. She blended in with the crowd, pretending to be an ordinary shopper, wandering from stall to stall, occasionally stopping to inspect merchandise and bargain with vendors, cleverly using the crowd's cover to confuse any potential pursuers. Her eyes seemed to dart around casually, but in reality, she was secretly observing everyone around her, not missing a single suspicious detail.
After circling the market several times, Jiang Zhi made sure she wasn't being followed, so she exited through another exit. She arrived at a bus stop and boarded a bus bound for the city's edge. The bus was empty, so Jiang Zhi found a window seat and held her child tightly in her arms. She stared out the window at the receding streetscape outside, silently pondering her next plan.
After arriving at the edge of the city, Jiang Zhi got out of the car and walked towards the abandoned factory. Along the way, she carefully avoided some places where people might be present, and chose to move forward in the woods and overgrown areas. The twins would occasionally cry during the bumpy ride, and Jiang Zhi's heart tightened instantly. She quickly stopped and gently comforted the children. Her voice was gentle and soothing, like a gurgling stream, gently flowing in the children's ears. Gradually, the children stopped crying and fell asleep again. Jiang Zhi looked at the children's peaceful sleeping faces, her heart full of guilt and heartache. She knew that her experience had caused the children to suffer as well.
Finally, Jiang Zhi arrived at the abandoned factory. She carefully surveyed the surroundings, confirming there was no danger, before cautiously entering. The factory was dark and damp, filled with a stale, decaying atmosphere. Jiang Zhi found a relatively secluded, dry corner, placed the child on the ground, and began to set up some simple defensive mechanisms.
She crafted simple traps using scrap materials like planks, wire, and rope. She set a tripwire at the entrance; if anyone accidentally triggered it, it would trigger a piercing alarm and cause a heavy object to fall, blocking the enemy's advance. She also set spike traps in the surrounding passageways, hiding sharp metal pieces beneath brush and debris. If an enemy stepped on one, they would be injured.
