Jiang Zhi sat in the dimly lit room, having just finished feeding her child and was gently patting the swaddling clothes, trying to lull him to sleep. Suddenly, she keenly detected a strange movement. It was a subtle, deliberately suppressed sound, but it pierced her alert nerves like an arrow. Her eyes instantly sharpened like a hawk, and her body involuntarily tensed.
She knew danger was looming. Quickly and gently, Jiang Zhi wrapped the child and held her tightly in her arms. Then, she stood up and quietly walked to the window. Carefully, she parted a corner of the curtains, scanning the street outside with a fierce gaze. She saw several suspicious figures lingering around the corner. They seemed nonchalant, but their eyes betrayed an undisguised alertness and searching intent. Jiang Zhi's heart sank. She knew the assassins Jiang Yao had sent had already found their way.
Jiang Zhi's mind raced as she considered a possible escape route. This city, while familiar to her, was also rife with danger. She couldn't just flee blindly; she needed a comprehensive plan. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself, and quickly began packing essential items: primarily her baby's formula, diapers, and some simple medical supplies. She stuffed these items into a lightweight backpack and slung it across her body, ensuring it wouldn't hinder her movement.
Then, Jiang Zhi crouched, holding the child, and slowly walked toward the back door of the room. She took every step with extreme caution, fearing that even the slightest sound would alert the killer outside. She gently pushed the door open, and a gust of cool air hit her face. She poked her head out and surveyed the backyard. It was cluttered with debris, including a few worn-out cardboard boxes and some discarded furniture, providing some cover.
Jiang Zhi clutched the child tightly, carefully weaving through the debris, toward the backyard wall. Her heartbeat raced, almost leaping from her throat, but her steps remained steady and resolute. When she reached the wall, she glanced up at its height, mentally estimating its height. She temporarily placed the child in a safer corner, then grasped the edge with both hands, pushed herself up, and glided lightly over it. Then, she quickly pulled the child back up, holding him tightly in her arms, and jumped off the wall.
By now, she had arrived at a narrow alley. Jiang Zhi didn't dare pause for a moment, quickening her pace and heading deeper into the alley. She knew she had to get away from this dangerous area as quickly as possible. After twisting and turning in the alley, Jiang Zhi arrived at a busier street. She blended into the crowd, trying to make herself less conspicuous. She lowered her head, partially covering her face with her hair, while holding her child tightly and slowly moving forward with the flow of people.
However, Jiang Zhi knew that such a disguise wouldn't fool the killers for long. As she walked, she kept an eye on her surroundings, searching for possible transportation. Suddenly, she saw a shared bike parked on the side of the road. With a thought, Jiang Zhi quickly walked over to the bike, quickly pulling out her phone to scan the code and unlock it. She placed her child in the front basket, padded it with a soft cloth to ensure his safety and comfort. Then, she mounted her bike and headed towards the edge of the city.
Jiang Zhi sped along the streets, deftly avoiding traffic jams and crowds, choosing secluded yet not too desolate paths. Her speed was so intense that the wind whistled past her ears, but her gaze remained firm and calm. She periodically glanced back to see if there were any suspicious vehicles or people following her.
Just when Jiang Zhi thought she had escaped danger, she noticed the road ahead was blocked by a black van. Jiang Zhi was startled, instinctively sensing impending danger. She braked quickly, her bike leaving a long trail on the road. She picked up her child and ran toward a nearby alley.
By this time, the assassins in the van had also discovered Jiang Zhi's whereabouts. They all got out of the van and chased after Jiang Zhi. Jiang Zhi ran desperately in the alley, her breathing becoming rapid, but her pace did not slow down at all. She knew that if the assassins caught up with her, she and her child would be in dire straits.
Suddenly, Jiang Zhi found herself running into a dead end. Despair washed over her, but she quickly calmed down. She looked around and saw an abandoned warehouse nearby. Without much thought, Jiang Zhi rushed into the warehouse, carrying her child.
The warehouse was filled with a pungent odor, and all around it were piles of discarded items. Jiang Zhi hid behind a pile of goods, tightly covering her child's mouth, fearing that even the slightest sound would reveal their position. Her heartbeat was particularly loud in the silent warehouse, and she nervously stared at the warehouse entrance, waiting for the killers to arrive.
Soon, the killers' footsteps gradually approached. Jiang Zhi's palms were full of sweat, and she clenched her fists tightly, ready to fight to the death the moment the killers found them. The killers walked into the warehouse, dispersed, and began to search everywhere for Jiang Zhi's traces.
Jiang Zhi quietly peeked out from behind the cargo and observed the assassins' positions. She noticed one of them was walking towards her, getting closer and closer. Her heart tightened, and she knew she had to take the initiative.
Jiang Zhi gently placed the child in a safe place, then stood up and found a thick iron rod from the pile of goods. She held the iron rod tightly, holding her breath, waiting for the killer to approach. When the killer walked in front of her, Jiang Zhi suddenly rushed out from behind the goods and swung the iron rod fiercely at the killer. The killer was startled by the sudden attack and hurriedly dodged, but was still hit in the arm by the iron rod, and let out a painful scream.
