Chapter 699: Destiny

Time flows by like the gentle gurgling of a stream. After weathering countless trials and tribulations, Jiang Zhi finally finds a haven of inner peace amidst the trials and tribulations of life. She brings her child to a small town, far from the hustle and bustle of the world, and begins a new chapter in her life.

The first rays of morning light softly filtered through the mottled leaves, illuminating Jiang Zhi's tranquil face. She slowly opened her eyes, only to be greeted by the innocent sleeping face of her child. Her heart was instantly filled with endless warmth and peace. The storms of the past seemed, in that moment, like a distant dream.

Life in the small town is peaceful and beautiful. Jiang Zhi spends her days busy with the trivialities of life, accompanied by the laughter and joy of her children. She meticulously prepares each meal, watching her children savor it with contentment, their faces filled with joy. In her spare time, she takes her children for strolls along the town's bluestone paths, breathing in the fresh air and feeling the gifts of nature. Every moment of their growth is carefully treasured in her heart.

Yet, beneath this seemingly peaceful life, Jiang Zhi harbored an unspeakable melancholy deep within her heart. Shen Qingchen's figure, like a lingering ghost, often loomed in her mind. In the stillness of the night, she couldn't help but recall the beautiful times she had spent with Shen Qingchen. Those gentle glances, affectionate words, and sweet embraces, like a sharp sword, pierced her heart without her realizing it.

She knew Shen Qingchen's difficulties and helplessness, but the betrayal and hurt she had suffered were like a deep chasm in her heart, difficult to cross easily. She often fell into deep self-struggle and contradiction. On the one hand, she longed to embrace that love again, but on the other hand, she was afraid of being hurt again, afraid that she and her child would fall into endless pain and despair again.

In this remote town, Jiang Zhi made some kind and sincere friends. Their companionship and care, like the warm sun on a winter's day, provided her with immense comfort and support. However, deep within her heart, there remained a tightly closed door, never opened to anyone. Behind that door lay all her secrets, pain, and longing.

Meanwhile, after losing Jiang Zhi, Shen Qingchen felt as if he had lost his soul. His world had become gloomy, his heart filled with endless regret and self-blame. He rushed everywhere, searching for any clue that might be related to Jiang Zhi. Every city, every town, every street left behind his tired but determined figure.

He kept asking passersby, not missing any tiny clues, even a glimmer of hope could rekindle his passion for searching. His eyes were full of anxiety and longing, which was a deep longing and concern for Jiang Zhi.

During his long search, Shen Qingchen gradually reflected on his past mistakes. He came to realize how foolish and selfish his decision had been. For the sake of so-called protection, he had pushed the person he loved most away, causing her such immense pain. He vowed that if he could ever find Jiang Zhi again, he would dedicate his life to making amends for his past mistakes, protecting her and their child with endless love and care, ensuring they would never again be harmed.

The gears of fate turned quietly and inadvertently. It was a sunny afternoon, and Jiang Zhi, as usual, took her children to the small town market. The market was bustling with people, and the stalls were filled with a dazzling array of fresh fruits and vegetables, exquisite handicrafts, and the children's favorite toys.

Jiang Zhi held the child's hand and walked through the bustling crowd, feeling the atmosphere of ordinary life. The child's eyes sparkled with curiosity, full of interest in everything around him, and from time to time he stopped and looked curiously at the novelties on the stalls.

At this moment, Shen Qingchen was walking along a winding path, slowly entering this quiet town. His heart was filled with anticipation and nervousness, wondering if he could find the figure that haunted him in this small town.

As Jiang Zhi paused at a fruit stall, selecting fresh fruit, Shen Qingchen happened to pass by. Their gazes met, and time seemed to freeze in that moment. Jiang Zhi's eyes flashed with surprise, confusion, and a complex mix of emotions, while Shen Qingchen's were filled with surprise, excitement, and deep longing.

The crowd around them was still bustling, the noisy sounds as if blocked out by an invisible barrier. They stared at each other in silence, a thousand words welling up in their hearts, yet they didn't know where to begin. Jiang Zhi felt a mixture of emotions, memories of the past flooding back like a tide, leaving her momentarily at a loss. Shen Qingchen's lips trembled with excitement, wanting to say something but afraid to disrupt this hard-earned reunion.

The child looked at Shen Qingchen curiously, tugged at the corner of Jiang Zhi's clothes, and asked softly, "Mom, who is this uncle?" The child's tender voice broke the silence for a moment and brought Jiang Zhi back to her senses from her trance. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down, then squatted down and said gently to the child, "Baby, this is a friend of Mom."

Shen Qingchen looked at the child, and an indescribable emotion welled up in his heart. He seemed to see the shadow of Jiang Zhi in the child's eyebrows and eyes, and his heart was filled with love and pity. He wanted to get closer to the child, but was worried about scaring Jiang Zhi. He could only suppress his inner impulse and stood there, his eyes full of tenderness and expectation.

Jiang Zhi stood up, looked at Shen Qingchen, forced a smile, and said, "Long time no see." Shen Qingchen's eyes were slightly red. He looked at Jiang Zhi affectionately and said, "Long time no see, how are you doing?" A simple greeting, but full of endless longing and concern. Jiang Zhi nodded slightly and said, "I'm doing well, how about you?" Shen Qingchen smiled bitterly and shook his head, saying, "How can I live well without you by my side?"
