The dawn was breaking, the city still slumbering, but Jiang Zhi had already risen. Standing by the window, she gazed through the thin morning mist at the distant skyline, a skyline shrouded in countless secrets. She felt a mixture of anxiety and determination. Today was the day she and Shen Qingchen had agreed to split up and attack the mysterious Huanglong organization.
Jiang Zhi took a deep breath and turned to the dressing table inside. It was filled with various bottles and jars, wigs, facial skin, and specially made contact lenses—all the "weapons" she had meticulously prepared for today's operation. She picked up a piece of delicate, almost lifelike facial skin and gently pressed it against her face, her fingers expertly and gently pressing the edges to fit perfectly against her skin. Instantly, her face was subtly transformed. Next, she donned a short, ear-length wig, a jet-black, yet understated black. She paired it with contact lenses that altered her eye color and masked the sharpness beneath her eyes, and applied a touch of light makeup. The image of an ordinary young woman, unremarkable in a crowd, emerged.
Everything was ready. Jiang Zhi put on a plain, slightly worn coat and carried an old satchel. She cleverly hid a sharp dagger, a small eavesdropping device, and a custom communication device in various places throughout her clothing. She took one last look at herself in the mirror, making sure there were no flaws, and then quietly left her residence.
The streets gradually became bustling with activity, and Jiang Zhi blended into the morning rush hour crowd. She walked at a leisurely pace, mimicking the hurried and slightly exhausted demeanor of the office workers around her, but her eyes remained alert. Following a pre-planned route, she changed public transportation several times, gradually approaching a fringe branch of a mysterious organization.
As she neared her destination, Jiang Zhi grew increasingly cautious. She paused at a corner a block away, pretending to tie her shoe, but actually observing her surroundings. After confirming that no suspicious individuals were following her, she continued on. The branch office was located in a seemingly abandoned factory, surrounded by overgrown weeds and towering walls clad in rusty barbed wire. A single closed gate provided access, and two guards stood guard, their eyes scanning the surroundings warily.
Jiang Zhi circled around to the back of the factory, where she found a hidden entrance to a drainage pipe. Carefully, she moved aside the debris covering it and crouched down to enter. The pipe was dark, damp, and filled with a pungent odor. She endured the discomfort and groped her way forward, relying on the dim light from her cell phone. Soon, she heard the sound of water rushing faster and faster, knowing she was near the exit.
Finally, Jiang Zhi emerged from the other end of the pipe and found herself in a factory storage room. She dusted herself off and listened for any sounds outside. After making sure it was safe for the time being, she slowly pushed open the door, revealing a dimly lit corridor.
Jiang Zhi walked along the corridor, her steps as light as a night cat. Occasionally, when she encountered patrolling guards, she would quickly duck into a nearby room or a shadowy spot, waiting for them to leave before continuing on her way. Using the factory floor plan she had collected earlier, she easily found an office.
The office was deserted. Jiang Zhi slipped inside quickly, closing the door behind her. She walked straight to her desk and began rummaging through the files. Drawers were piled high with documents of all kinds, and she flipped through them one by one, her eyes like a scanner, quickly capturing key information. Suddenly, footsteps sounded outside the door. Her heart suddenly tightened. She quickly took a photo of the document she was examining and hid under the desk.
The door opened, and two guards walked in, mumbling something. Jiang Zhi held his breath, gripping the dagger tightly, his palms sweating. Fortunately, the guards only took a quick look around and found nothing unusual, so they quickly left. Jiang Zhi breathed a sigh of relief, crawled out from under the table, and continued his search.
Just as she was about to leave the office, the elevator door at the end of the corridor suddenly opened, and a group of people surrounded a middle-aged man in a suit with a stern expression. Jiang Zhi's heart trembled. She recognized him; he was one of the leaders of this branch of the mysterious organization. Without thinking, she quickly turned and hid in the nearby utility room.
Through the crack in the utility room door, Jiang Zhi saw the group heading toward the office she had just left. She secretly rejoiced, her chance had come. After they all entered the office, she quietly pushed open the utility room door and tiptoed closer. At that moment, a heated discussion could be heard from within the office. Jiang Zhi carefully attached a miniature eavesdropping device to the door, put on headphones, and began to monitor.
"We've received news from above that Jiang Zhi's gang has been investigating us more and more strictly recently. We have to speed up our actions and transfer the key information." The leader's low voice came.
"But where is it safe to move to? Jiang Zhi is a cunning woman. Maybe she has already known some of our whereabouts." Another person said worriedly.
"Hmph, if she dares to come, I will make sure she never returns. However, it's better to be cautious. Send the information to the secret warehouse in the suburbs first. It's heavily guarded there, and she won't be able to escape even if she has wings." The leader snorted coldly and gave the order.
Jiang Zhi was startled. A secret warehouse in the suburbs? This was an important clue. She was secretly rejoicing when suddenly, a loud noise came from her headphones, followed by a cry of alarm: "Oh no, there's a bug!"
Jiang Zhi thought something was wrong and turned to run. However, just as she reached the middle of the corridor, she saw a group of guards rushing towards her from all directions and surrounding her. The leading guard had a ferocious look on his face and shouted, "Who are you? How dare you steal information here? Are you tired of living?"
Jiang Zhi's eyes were cold, and she didn't answer. She quickly scanned her surroundings, looking for an opportunity to break out. Seeing a window behind her, she pretended to rush forward, causing the guards to rush forward to stop her, but she turned around in an instant and ran towards the window. The guards reacted and immediately gave chase.
