Chapter 806: Falling into Despair

As Jiang Zhi gradually moved deeper into the core area of the branch, each step was a delicate one. Using her exceptional disguise, she deftly evaded several patrolling guards and successfully infiltrated a seemingly confidential archive room. The room was dimly lit, filled with filing cabinets and a distinct scent of stale paper and confidential information. Jiang Zhi quickly scanned the surroundings, using her photographic memory to identify several drawers that might hold crucial clues.

Just as she carefully opened a drawer and flipped through the documents, a subtle yet sharp alarm shattered the silence. Instantly, the entire area was illuminated, a blinding red light flashing wildly, illuminating every corner. Then, heavy footsteps thundered from all directions, and countless guards quickly converged on her position like a tide.

Jiang Zhi's heart tightened, knowing something was amiss. But years of experience had quickly calmed her. She tucked any potentially useful documents into a specially crafted hidden pocket, tucked inside her clothing, and quickly looked around, searching for a way out. However, her escape route had been sealed by electronic gates the moment the alarm sounded. With well-equipped enemies lurking on all sides, she was trapped.

"Hmph, let's see where you can run this time!" The leading guard captain had a ferocious look on his face, and the submachine gun in his hand flashed a cold light under the light. He waved his hand, and the men behind him spread out in a fan shape, approaching Jiang Zhi step by step, trying to trap her completely in this small space.

Jiang Zhi's eyes instantly turned cold, like a cornered cheetah. With agility, she fought the assassins. She dodged behind a filing cabinet, grabbing a heavy hardcover book as a makeshift weapon. When the first guard charged, Jiang Zhi seized the opportunity, dodging the incoming dagger and smashing the book against his temple. The guard groaned and fell to the ground.

But the enemies kept coming, and Jiang Zhi fought and retreated, her wounds mounting. A dagger slashed her left arm, blood gushing out, staining her sleeve red. A heavy punch struck her back, causing her to stumble and nearly fall. Even so, she gritted her teeth, cleverly using her surroundings to defeat the enemy. She overturned filing cabinets, creating chaos and hindering the enemy's advance; she tore down a light bulb, exploiting the darkness to attack the enemy's weakest points.

However, she was outnumbered, and as her strength gradually faded, her movements became increasingly sluggish, making it increasingly difficult to dodge attacks. Pain surged from her wounds, and sweat mixed with blood blurred her vision. Every movement of her arms and every step felt like a tremendous burden. But Jiang Zhi had only one conviction: she must not fall here. She must escape alive, carrying this crucial intelligence, and avenge Tang Junxi and Shen Qingchen's father!

After Shen Qingchen breached several lines of defense, the situation took a turn for the worse. They encountered elite troops from a mysterious organization. These enemies were clearly specially trained, experienced, and possessed incredibly sophisticated weaponry. Equipped with the latest assault rifles and high-precision sniper rifles, they also possessed a wide array of high-tech protective gear and tactical aids, repeatedly thwarting Shen Qingchen and his team's attacks.

The enemy's tactics were so brilliant that they were frightening. They took advantage of the terrain, set up layers of defense, and arranged a dense crossfire network. As soon as Shen Qingchen and his men showed their heads, dense bullets rained down on them, making them unable to raise their heads and forced to retreat behind the bunker.

"Boss, we can't go on like this. Our ammunition won't last much longer!" One of the men had an anxious look on his face, with beads of sweat rolling down his forehead. The gun in his hand was shaking slightly with nervousness. He fired blindly in the direction of the enemy, trying to suppress their firepower, while shouting loudly to Shen Qingchen.

Shen Qingchen's face was stern, his eyes etched with determination and resoluteness. He knew the situation was precarious, his own casualties heavy. Brothers fell one by one, each scream piercing his heart like a sharp blade. But he couldn't retreat. The thought of Jiang Zhi still out there, facing danger alone, ignited a rage within him. He desperately wanted to tear open a gap in the mysterious organization and relieve her pressure, even if it was just a tiny bit.

"Brothers, hold on! We have to rush out to survive, for our families, for everything we protect!" Shen Qingchen roared loudly to boost morale. He picked up a weapon of his fallen brother, checked the ammunition, took a deep breath, and prepared to charge again.

They were trapped in a narrow corridor, barricaded in front and behind by enemy fire and flanked by cold, solid walls. There was no escape. The air was thick with the pungent, suffocating smell of gunpowder, mingled with the nauseating stench of blood. The ground was littered with the bodies of both their own and the enemy, a horrific sight.

Shen Qingchen observed the gaps in the enemy's fire, trying to find a breakthrough point. He spotted a relatively weak enemy defense beneath a ventilation vent at the end of the corridor, suggesting a possible escape route. He acted decisively, directing his men to focus their fire on the other side to draw the enemy's attention. He then crouched low, accompanied by two agile team members, and rushed towards the vent amidst a hail of bullets.

However, the enemy quickly realized their intentions and threw grenades in their direction. "Be careful!" Shen Qingchen shouted, leaping towards a team member and shielding him. The grenade exploded, and the huge impact knocked them to the ground. Shen Qingchen felt a buzzing in his ears, and his back was scratched by shrapnel, and his clothes were soaked with blood.

But he ignored the pain, struggled to get up, and continued to move forward. When they were about to approach the ventilation vent, a sniper from a mysterious organization discovered them, and the black muzzle of the gun was aimed at Shen Qingchen. At this critical moment, the team member next to him was quick-witted and flew over, blocking the fatal bullet with his body, and the team member died on the spot.

"Ah!" Shen Qingchen was filled with grief and anger, his eyes red. He roared and fired wildly in the direction of the sniper, venting his anger on the enemy. Finally, after paying a heavy price, they successfully reached the bottom of the ventilation vent. Shen Qingchen asked another team member to climb up first, while he stayed behind to cover the retreat and buy time for his teammates.

The enemy surged forward like a tide, and Shen Qingchen fought alone, his gun spitting flames, each bullet laced with hatred and determination. But his ammunition was running low, his arms aching and numb from the constant firing, his wounds mounting, and his strength gradually failing. In this desperate situation, Shen Qingchen fell into an unprecedented predicament, hanging by a thread, as if he would be swallowed by darkness at any moment. However, his concern for Jiang Zhi and his unwavering commitment to justice fueled his tenacious resistance, refusing to give up his last glimmer of hope.
