Chapter 888: The Eve of Reunion →

Night fell like thick ink, shrouding the city with a heavy blanket. Only in Jiang Zhi's secret stronghold, a few faint yellow lights shone through, like a star of hope flickering stubbornly in the darkness. Inside, the atmosphere was as heavy as the oppression before a storm. Jiang Zhi and his newfound allies gathered around a worn wooden table piled with documents and maps, frantically planning their final blow against the mysterious organization.

The walls were densely covered with clues, red lines of varying thickness intricately connecting key figures and events, like a vast, secretive spider's web, each intersection seemingly hiding a secret capable of subverting the situation. Jiang Zhi's brow furrowed, her gaze piercing the paper, her gaze seemingly able to penetrate the truth behind it. Her slender fingers tapped the tabletop, the rhythm sometimes fast, sometimes slow, each beat striking at everyone's heartstrings. With this gentle clamor, she replayed in her mind the various possible scenarios of tomorrow, like a chess player masterfully controlling the entire situation, memorizing the ever-changing game before making a single move.

"Everyone, listen carefully," Jiang Zhi finally broke the silence. Her voice was steady but revealed an unquestionable determination. She raised her head slightly and glanced at everyone present. The fighting spirit burning in her eyes seemed to be contagious, and everyone's originally tired faces instantly brightened up. "According to the latest news, the core base of the mysterious organization will be relatively weakly guarded tomorrow. This is a great opportunity for us, and it is the moment we have been waiting for. If we miss it, it will be extremely difficult to find such a good opportunity again."

Everyone nodded, their eyes blazing with a desire for victory, a dedication to justice. In the corner, a burly man clenched his fists, his bones crackling as if in protest against his enemies. The young woman next to him bit her lip, gripping the dagger even tighter, the blade trembling slightly, reflecting her inner excitement and nervousness. They came from different places and backgrounds, yet they were united by a common goal. Led by Jiang Zhi, they inched closer and closer to the heart of the mysterious organization.

Meanwhile, in a luxurious villa across the city, the lights were brightly lit. Shen Qingchen had just concluded an urgent meeting with his trusted subordinates. The conference table was also strewn with intelligence documents about a mysterious organization. However, compared to Jiang Zhi's simpler room, this one had a more high-tech, cool feel. On a giant electronic screen, satellite images of the mysterious organization's base flashed, along with various real-time data and information.

Shen Qingchen was terribly anxious, beads of sweat rolling down his forehead, soaking his furrowed brows. He paced back and forth, his leather shoes making a quick clatter on the polished marble floor, each step carrying a tremendous force, venting his inner anxiety. His subordinates' voices of dissuasion still echoed in his ears: "Boss Shen, this is too dangerous. You can't go in person. We've arranged our most elite personnel and will definitely ensure Miss Jiang's safety..." But these words passed like wind through his ears, and he could not hear them at all.

"I can't let Jiang Zhi face danger alone again. This time, I must stay by her side." His eyes were determined, and he suddenly stopped and turned to look out the window at the deep night, as if he could penetrate the darkness and see where Jiang Zhi was. In that moment, tenderness and determination intertwined in his eyes, and longing surged like a tidal wave, almost drowning him. He thought of Jiang Zhi's back as she left alone, and the stubborn look in her eyes when facing difficulties, and his heart ached. The urge to immediately protect her behind him and shield her from the wind and rain became stronger.

Without further hesitation, Shen Qingchen quickly assembled his equipment. He donned his custom-made bulletproof vest, his fingers expertly checking the magazines of each weapon, ensuring they were secure. The dagger at his waist gleamed coldly, a weapon he'd specially prepared for close combat. With everything ready, he took a deep breath and strode out of the villa, followed by a group of equally solemn men.

As the night deepened, Jiang Zhi gently pushed open the door to the children's room. Inside, the lights were dimmed to their lowest setting, a soft glow casting a halo over the two small beds, like a dreamy veil draped over the children. His daughter slept soundly, her face as rosy as a ripe apple, her long eyelashes casting a faint shadow on her eyelids. A faint smile played at the corner of her mouth, as if she were in a sweet dream. His son, leaning slightly to his side, clutched a worn rag doll in his tiny hands. Jiang Zhi had picked it up by chance at a market, and it had become his son's treasure ever since.

Jiang Zhi slowly walked to the bedside and squatted down, her eyes tender enough to evoke tears. She reached out and gently tucked the quilt around her daughter, so gentle she wouldn't disturb her sweet dreams. Then, she moved her hand to her son's face, gently caressing his forehead and smoothing out a few stray strands of hair. Looking at the children's peaceful sleeping faces, Jiang Zhi's eyes were filled with tenderness and reluctance. Something seemed to be choking her throat, and for a moment, she was speechless.

After a long moment, she leaned down and gently placed kiss after kiss on the children's foreheads, each one filled with endless love and apology. "My dears, once I've dealt with the bad guys, I'll take you home," she whispered softly, her voice as gentle as a breeze brushing against the strings of a zither, a touch trembling. Then, she slowly stood up, her gaze lingering on the children for one last time, as if to sear the image deeply into her memory. Then, she resolutely turned, her figure vanishing into the darkness, running towards the site of the decisive battle, her steps firm and resolute, without a single hesitation.

The city streets were silent in the night, only Jiang Zhi's hurried footsteps echoed through the empty alleys. Moonlight streamed down her like water, outlining her lonely yet resolute figure. She moved through the shadows, mentally reciting her plans for tomorrow, carefully considering every detail, leaving no room for error. In this moment, she was both a mother fighting for her family and a warrior standing up for justice, about to enter a battlefield fraught with uncertainty and danger, to face the final judgment of fate.
