In their spare time, Jiang Zhi and Shen Qingchen would always take their children back to the places where they had fought. On this day, the sun shone softly, and a gentle breeze blew, carrying with it the faint scent of gunpowder, like the whisper of memories. As they set foot on that familiar yet strange land, each step seemed to tread on the strings of time, playing a melody of memories.
The children, like joyful little deer, bounded around in front, their eyes full of curiosity. To them, this place was simply the setting for the mysterious and thrilling stories their parents had told them, a place brimming with fantasy and adventure. The eldest son, Shen Yixuan, inherited his father's deep eyes and calm demeanor. Despite his youth, he already possessed a certain adult demeanor. He paused periodically, gazing solemnly around, as if trying to imagine the thrilling scenes of the past. The youngest daughter, Shen Yueyao, was as sweet and charming as a delicate flower blooming in spring, her dark curls bouncing playfully as she ran. She clutched the garland Jiang Zhi had woven for her, mumbling to herself, "Mom and Dad, hurry up!"
Jiang Zhi and Shen Qingchen, hand in hand, strolled through the land that held so much of their memories, awash with emotion. Jiang Zhi's gaze drifted across a ruined wall, her thoughts drifting away. That was where she and her allies had first encountered a patrol from a mysterious organization. The night was as dark as inky black, their figures cloaked in shadows, their heartbeats amplified in the silence. The enemy's footsteps approached, each one a stab at their very souls. A single misstep could spell total defeat. Jiang Zhi remembered gripping the dagger tightly, her palms wet with sweat, a chill running down them, yet her gaze remained unwavering, fixed on the enemy's movements. Her allies beside them similarly held their breath, their muscles tensed, ready to strike at any moment. Just as the enemy was about to discover them, the sudden cry of a night owl pierced the night sky, distracting the patrol and allowing them to escape.
"Xuan'er, Yueyao, look here." Jiang Zhi called the children softly, squatting down and pointing at the ruins. "Back then, Mom and my uncles and aunts were here. We were almost discovered by the bad guys, but thanks to the help of a night owl, we escaped."
Shen Yixuan squatted down, and gently touched the rough bricks with his little hands, his eyes full of amazement: "Mom, you must have been very scared at that time, right?"
Jiang Zhi gently touched his head: "I am a little scared, but in order to protect the people we care about and to uncover the truth, we have to move forward bravely."
Shen Qingchen also squatted down, gathered the children in front of him, and looked into the distance: "Later, we went all the way deeper, and every step was like walking on thin ice. The surroundings seemed peaceful, but in fact, there were hidden dangers, and there were traps set by the mysterious organization everywhere."
They continued on, reaching an open field where the ground seemed to still bear the marks of the fierce battles of yesteryear. The charred earth and the mottled bloodstains, though almost washed away by time, still spoke of the carnage of the past. Jiang Zhi remembered the chaotic battle, the foe and ours clashing in close combat, the flashing of swords and the clashing of shouts that made her eardrums ache. She swung her longsword, the wind whistling, each strike laced with the determination to kill. Comrades fell around her, blood splattering her face and body, mixing with sweat and dust, blurring her vision, but she couldn't stop. If she stopped, she would be doomed.
Chen Yueyao timidly grabbed the corner of Jiang Zhi's clothes: "Mom, there is so much blood here, it's scary."
Jiang Zhi picked up his daughter and comforted her softly, "Don't be afraid, baby. This blood was left by mom, dad, uncles, and aunts when they defeated the bad guys. It is because of their sacrifices that we have peace now."
Shen Qingchen took over the conversation: "In that battle, we were almost in a desperate situation. The enemy kept pouring in, our troops were getting fewer and fewer, and our ammunition was about to run out. But at this moment, my mother came up with a brilliant idea." He looked at Jiang Zhi, his eyes full of pride.
Jiang Zhi smiled faintly, recalling the scene. "I discovered that the mysterious organization's supply line was nearby. If we could cut it off, they would collapse without a fight. So, I took a few nimble allies and, under cover of darkness, quietly made our way to the supply line. Along the way, we dodged numerous guards and finally arrived, only to encounter the enemy's elite troops."
Shen Yixuan’s eyes widened: “Then what are you going to do, Mom?”
"We had no choice but to fight to the death. I was thinking at the time that we must succeed and not let down everyone who was still fighting hard on the main battlefield. We fought a desperate battle with the enemy, every blow was bloody and every move was fatal. In the end, we successfully blew up the supply line, the enemy's formation was in chaos, and the situation on the main battlefield was reversed." Jiang Zhi's eyes were full of determination. When he talked about the memory of that life-and-death struggle now, although he was still scared, he was full of pride.
Further ahead was the site of the secret room that once held the truth. Today, the room had collapsed in the flames of war, leaving only a pile of rubble and debris. But in the hearts of Jiang Zhi and Shen Qingchen, it held extraordinary significance. Jiang Zhi slowly squatted down and gently pushed aside a few pieces of rubble, as if trying to find the source of their shock and anger back then.
"Children, it was here that Mom and Dad discovered the shocking conspiracy hidden for years by a mysterious organization." Jiang Zhi's voice trembled slightly, and his eyes were filled with complex emotions. "Those documents filled the entire secret room. Every word recorded on them is like a sharp knife, piercing our hearts. It turns out that so many innocent lives were lost and so many families were ruined, all planned by this cruel organization."
Shen Qingchen clenched his fists, his eyes burning with anger: "They manipulate the political and business situations of various countries and use any means to achieve their goals. My father, Jiang Zhi's close friend Tang Junxi's family, and countless people have become their victims. Just to satisfy the ambitions of those behind-the-scenes masters to dominate the world. It's simply a heinous crime."
