The dawn broke, a faint light filtering through thin clouds, gently scattering across the city streets and alleys. In the Jiang family villa, before the alarm clock had even begun to ring, the light in their daughter Jiang Yue's room had already come on. She quietly rose from her bed, washed briefly, and donned her pristine white doctor's coat, the hem of which swayed gently, as if carrying an endless sense of purpose.
Today, she leads a public welfare medical team to provide free medical services in remote mountainous areas. For Jiang Yue, this is no ordinary trip, but a journey of hope and responsibility. In her heart, every patient is a life that needs to be saved, whether they live in a bustling city or in the remote mountains.
In the living room, Jiang Zhi and Shen Qingchen had been waiting for a long time. Seeing their daughter's determined eyes, they felt both distressed and proud. Jiang Zhi stepped forward, gently straightened her daughter's collar, and said softly, "Yueyue, the conditions in the mountains are difficult. You must take care of yourself." Shen Qingchen nodded, handed over the medicine box she had prepared, and instructed, "Don't panic when you encounter difficulties. Mom and Dad believe in your abilities." Jiang Yue's eyes reddened slightly, and she nodded vigorously. She was well aware of her parents' concern and even more aware of the heavy responsibility she shouldered.
After a quick breakfast, Jiang Yue left home, dragging a suitcase filled with medical supplies. At the door, members of the public welfare medical team had already gathered, their eyes gleaming with the same light: dedication and commitment. The van slowly started up and headed towards the distant mountains, its wheels rolling like a melody of love.
Along the way, the scenery gradually changed from skyscrapers to rolling hills and vast fields. The road twisted and turned, the car jolted and swayed, but Jiang Yue's thoughts drifted far away. She recalled the medical conditions in the mountainous areas she had read about: dilapidated clinics, scarce medicines, and limited medical knowledge... These images struck her heart like a hammer, making her even more eager to reach her destination.
After several hours of trekking, the remote mountainous region finally came into view. Smoke curled upwards, and a few small villages scattered across the valley. But as the car pulled into the village, the sight before us still surprised everyone. The adobe houses were ramshackle, the roads were muddy, and children, dressed in worn but clean clothes, looked around with wide eyes and curiosity.
Jiang Yue took a deep breath, jumped out of the car first, and greeted the gathered villagers with her warmest smile: "Hello everyone, we are a public welfare medical team, and we are here to see you!" The villagers were stunned at first, but then burst into enthusiastic cheers. A white-haired grandmother took Jiang Yue's hand, tears welling up in her eyes with excitement: "My dear, you are finally here. We have been looking forward to seeing a doctor for a long time."
Without much time for small talk, the free clinic quickly began. A long line of villagers, young and old, men and women, lined up in front of the makeshift clinic, their eyes filled with a desire for health. Jiang Yue sat at the diagnosis table, diligently examining each patient.
The first person to sit down was a middle-aged man with a sallow complexion, a thin frame, and trembling hands. Jiang Yue asked softly, "Uncle, what's wrong with you?" The man spoke with a heavy dialect and struggled to answer, "Doctor, my stomach has been aching for years, and no medicine works." Jiang Yue frowned slightly as she carefully palpated his abdomen and reviewed his medical records (if any). Her initial diagnosis was a chronic digestive disease, but the poor conditions in the mountainous area made a definitive diagnosis impossible. She could only prescribe some medication to relieve the symptoms and take a detailed note of the man's condition. She planned to contact a specialist upon returning to the city to further research treatment options.
Next came a young mother holding a child. The child's face was flushed, and he was crying incessantly with a high fever. Jiang Yue quickly took the child, took his temperature with a thermometer, and checked his throat, heart, and lungs. Seeing the child's distress, Jiang Yue was distraught. While comforting the young mother, she quickly applied physical cooling methods. Then, she took out some antipyretic medication and patiently instructed her on the dosage and precautions: "Child, your fever is a bit high. Take this medicine first. Take your temperature every four hours. If it doesn't come down, be sure to come to us, okay?" The young mother nodded repeatedly, her eyes filled with gratitude.
Time slipped by in the busyness, the sun gradually rose higher, and the temperature grew hotter. The medical clinic was unbearably hot. Jiang Yue's forehead was covered with sweat, and the back of her clothes was already soaked with sweat, but she was oblivious to it, as she continued to pass the stethoscope from patient to patient.
By noon, the number of villagers seeking medical treatment had finally decreased. Jiang Yue finally stood up and stretched her aching body. A team member handed her a simple boxed lunch, and she had just taken a few bites when she saw an elderly man struggling to walk toward the medical station. Jiang Yue put down her lunch, hurried over, and helped the man sit down. "Uncle, please don't worry. Walk slowly." The man gasped and waved his hand. "Doctor, my legs hurt so much I can't walk." Jiang Yue squatted down and gently rolled up the man's trouser legs. His legs were swollen and his joints were deformed. She initially diagnosed him with severe arthritis. She carefully massaged his legs to relieve the pain and gave him anti-inflammatory and analgesic medication. She also advised him to stay warm and minimize weight.
After a short break, the free clinic continued. Besides treating patients, Jiang Yue also noticed a general lack of medical knowledge among the villagers. So, she decided to use her downtime to conduct a simple medical training session. She found a blackboard and wrote down in chalk the prevention and treatment methods for common illnesses, explaining them in plain language: "Everyone, for colds and fevers, you need to stay warm and drink plenty of fluids. If your condition becomes serious, don't delay and see a doctor immediately..." The villagers gathered around, listening with rapt attention. From time to time, someone asked a question, which Jiang Yue patiently answered.
