In the afternoon, the blazing sun gradually softened, and a gentle breeze caressed the gardens of the Shen family manor, swaying the flowers and plants, seemingly enjoying this pleasant moment. The manor was completely silent, with the occasional bird song adding a touch of leisure. Just then, the doorbell abruptly shattered the tranquility.
Jiang Zhi was sitting on the sofa in the living room, a business magazine in hand, her thoughts drifting to the future development plans for the family business. When the doorbell rang, she started slightly, then put the magazine down and stood up, heading for the door. Her steps were light and graceful, and the years seemed to have left little mark on her, instead giving her a sense of maturity and wisdom.
The door slowly opened, and for a moment, Jiang Zhi's eyes flashed with surprise. Standing at the door was an old friend with a familiar face, one he hadn't seen in a long time. He was dressed in simple casual clothes, his face was tired from the journey, but his eyes were filled with unconcealable excitement.
"It's you!" Jiang Zhi blurted out, his voice full of excitement.
The old friend looked at Jiang Zhi, his eyes slightly red. He opened his arms, took a step forward, and hugged Jiang Zhi tightly, as if he wanted to melt all the longing for him over the years into this hug.
"Long time no see, Jiang Zhi." The old friend's voice was a little hoarse, but full of affection.
The two hugged each other for a moment before slowly letting go. Jiang Zhi turned sideways and warmly welcomed his old friend into the house, saying, "Come in, you must have had a hard time on the way."
The old friend walked into the living room, looked around, and his eyes showed his emotion for Jiang Zhi's current living environment. Jiang Zhi led him to sit on the sofa, then went to the kitchen to pour two cups of hot tea. He handed him one and said with a smile, "Try it. This is the new Rain Before Longjing tea this year. It tastes very good."
The old friend took the teacup, took a sip, and praised, "It's indeed fragrant and mellow, good tea." He put the teacup down, turned his gaze to Jiang Zhi, and his expression became serious. "I didn't come here just to reminisce about the past."
Jiang Zhi frowned slightly, feeling a little uneasy. She stared into her old friend's eyes and asked, "What's wrong? Did something happen?"
The old friend took a deep breath, not bothering to exchange pleasantries, and said eagerly, "During a business exchange event overseas, I met a key figure who holds clues to the remnants of a mysterious organization."
Jiang Zhi's expression instantly turned serious. She leaned forward, tightly grasped her old friend's arm, and pressed, "Really? Tell me the details."
The old friend nodded and began to recount the whole story. It turned out that while attending a high-end international business summit, he had met an entrepreneur named Alex. Alex came from an old European family with businesses spanning the globe and extensive connections in both the criminal and lawless worlds. During a casual post-dinner chat, Alex let slip that he was investigating a transnational criminal organization, operating in secret and brutally, seemingly inextricably linked to the rise and fall of several ancient families.
An old friend keenly sensed that this organization might be the one Jiang Zhi and his team had been battling, so he quietly engaged in a deep conversation with Alex. After some deliberation, Alex finally relented, revealing that while the mysterious organization had suffered a severe blow, some core members were still lurking in the shadows, attempting a comeback. They appeared to have secretly established numerous bases around the world, engaging in illegal arms trafficking, intelligence smuggling, and money laundering. They were also plotting a larger conspiracy that, if successful, would bring about a global catastrophe.
"According to Alex, he has some key clues. He knows that one of the bases is in a city near us, and there may be a big move in the near future." The old friend said, pulling out a document from his briefcase and handing it to Jiang Zhi. "This is some information he gave me. Although it's not very complete, it should be able to help."
Jiang Zhi took the file and flipped through it quickly. It contained a few blurry photos, seemingly showing mysterious figures entering and exiting an abandoned factory. It also contained scattered intelligence regarding suspicious fund flows and communication records. Although the information was limited, Jiang Zhi knew it was a ray of hope in the darkness.
At this moment, Shen Qingchen finished the company meeting and returned home. He walked into the living room and saw Jiang Zhi and his old friend sitting on the sofa with serious expressions. His heart sank and he asked, "What happened?"
Jiang Zhi raised his head and told Shen Qingchen the news brought by his old friend. After listening, Shen Qingchen's face also became gloomy. He clenched his fists, and a flash of determination flashed in his eyes: "As long as the mysterious organization is not eliminated, the safety of our family and children will always be hanging by a thread. We must not let them succeed."
The three of them immediately went to the study and closed the door. The atmosphere became tense and oppressive. The study was filled with the faint fragrance of books. The paintings and calligraphy on the walls seemed to tell the family's history and glory, but no one was in the mood to appreciate them at the moment. Jiang Zhi spread the documents on the quaint desk. The three of them sat together and began to discuss the response in detail.
The old friend pointed to the abandoned factory in the photo and said, "I think we can start from here. Let's send someone to find out the situation and see if we can find more clues."
Shen Qingchen nodded slightly, and after thinking for a moment, he said: "Well, this method is feasible. But we can't alert the snake, we must act cautiously. I suggest selecting some agile and experienced family members to form a reconnaissance team, secretly sneaking into the vicinity of the factory to wait."
