Chapter 123 Hunting

Without bandages, Wei Aiguo tore off his own inner sleeve and used it to make do with Shen Dongqi's left leg. They had to turn back; their hunting trip was ruined. The three of them took turns carrying Shen Dongqi out. Along the way, they came across a small wooden hut. Smoke was billowing from the hut's chimney!

There are often houses like this in areas frequented by hunters. They are used by passing hunters to rest. Anyone passing by can use them, and Wei Aiguo and his group also wanted to go in and rest for a while.

He called out several times at the door, but no one answered; the person was probably not home. Wei Aiguo went inside and, sure enough, no one was there.

Tian Zhenguo disagreed with going in. "How can we just enter ordinary people's homes?"

Wei Aiguo disagreed, saying, "These houses are meant for everyone to rest in. It's unreasonable that ordinary people can rest here, but wounded soldiers can't!"

Wei Aiguo helped Shen Dongqi off Shu Hang's back. "We've been walking and haven't felt cold, but Shen Dongqi was being carried by us. Look how frozen he is." Were they going to wait until Shen Dongqi was half-frozen to death?

Winters in the south are damp and cold, and with Shen Dongqi losing blood, it felt even colder!

Shen Dongqi's face was pale; he was clearly quite cold. Tian Zhenguo couldn't voice his objections...

A fire was burning inside the wooden hut, with a clay pot of hot water sizzling on it. As was the hunters' custom, everyone could use the hut's belongings, and they would usually leave something behind for the next person to rest.

Wei Aiguo took out an enamel mug from his backpack and poured hot water for Shen Dongqi.

Tian Zhenguo felt it shouldn't be like that, but seeing Shen Dongqi frozen like that, he couldn't bring himself to object.

Shen Dongqi felt much better after drinking a few sips of hot water. Everyone chewed on their own dry rations.

Wei Aiguo was examining the things inside the wooden house; something was very wrong with it.

I smoked half a pack of filtered cigarettes. Hunters roam the mountains; they should be rolling their own tobacco!

An empty can of luncheon meat. The can is damp inside, clearly opened today or yesterday. Is luncheon meat something ordinary people can afford and eat?

Wei Aiguo had seen it but never eaten it.

Under the wooden bed was a yellow canvas bag. Hunters didn't carry these kinds of canvas bags. Wei Aiguo unzipped it…

"What are you doing?" Tian Zhenguo was furious. Wei Aiguo was actually rummaging through the people's belongings.
