Chapter 178. Cheng Yousuo's Anxiety

Cheng Xiuyun was always there to annoy everyone, and Secretary Cheng would always spout official jargon. Song Yan would have to be crazy to help them. But he was the one who single-handedly brought about the establishment of the weaving group. Song Yan was trying his best to watch them court disaster, and he would refrain from intervening if he could avoid doing so.

But we can't just do nothing.

Cheng Qianjin's character is what it is; if Cheng Xiuyun were to join the fray, and Cheng Yi were to set his sights on Xiaoxiao, they would undoubtedly fuel the flames. Song Yan had to be on guard.

This little coaster is my backup plan.

When Song Yan returned, Cheng Yousuo was sitting dejectedly in her house. Cheng's second sister-in-law was also there.

Song Yan's heart skipped a beat. Had the two children gained weight again? She suppressed her anxiety and said, "Brother Cheng is here!"

"Song Zhiqing, why are you only just getting back?" Cheng Yousuo asked anxiously.

Could his guess be true? Song Yan's face turned pale.

Her brother-in-law was really worried sick. Sister-in-law Cheng quickly explained, "Sister, don't worry. It's nothing. The two children ate the steamed egg custard you made. They also drank the medicine you brewed, and they drank it even more happily than yesterday."

Song Yan breathed a sigh of relief. No, he needed to sit down and calm down.

Cheng Yousuo: "I've been waiting for you here all afternoon..."

"Stop talking, let me speak," Cheng Ersao interrupted Cheng Yousuo. "The child ate the steamed eggs yesterday and this morning. We thought the child could eat eggs! We asked around in our village and several nearby villages, and finally found two eggs."

I steamed an egg custard for the kids at noon. We didn't have any sesame oil at home, so I had to ask you for some! Actually, it smelled pretty much the same as yours, but the two kids wouldn't eat a single bite.

My sister-in-law thinks it's because you make such good steamed egg custard. So she asked you to make some yourself, so I could watch you do it, and then I'll make some for Shuanzhu and Damei."

"I was just thinking I should hurry up and let the child have a bite, I was a little anxious," Cheng Yousuo explained, rubbing his hands apologetically.

A loving father's heart.

Seeing how eager the two of them were, Song Yan knew that they probably wouldn't be able to eat the eggs, but he couldn't bring himself to refuse.

"Okay. I'll make it right away." Song Yan weighed the eggs Brother Cheng brought in his hand, feeling that they were hollow; he had no idea how long they'd been sitting there. "These eggs aren't fresh. I wonder if Da Mei and the others can eat them?"

…Sister-in-law Cheng said she watched Song Yan do it, and she really did. Her eyes never left Song Yan; he wanted to add more spring water, but he couldn't find an opportunity.

Watching the two of them happily carry away the steamed egg custard, Song Yan felt a pang of sadness.

They were so meticulous and careful just so that the child could eat a single bite...

The next morning, Xiaoxiao had just lit the fire in the stove when she heard someone knocking on the door again.

Song Yan usually gets up about ten or eight minutes later than Xiao Xiao. She saw Cheng Yousuo standing in the yard through the window and muttered to herself, "Brother Cheng, why are you here so early?"

The door creaked open, and Xiaoxiao came in. "The two kids still haven't touched the eggs from yesterday afternoon. Brother Cheng thinks, like you said, the eggs aren't fresh. Not just in our brigade, but even if you include several nearby brigades, only our chickens lay eggs."

He...he wanted to wait for the chicken to lay eggs so he could take them home and cook them for his children.

He felt it was too much trouble to have you do it and then have to send it over.

Look at the frost on his clothes; I wonder how long he's been waiting at the door. He only knocked when he saw smoke coming from the chimney.

Song Yan looked at Cheng Yousuo, who was staring intently at the chicken coop outside, and rubbed his head in annoyance.

There's a young married woman, a young woman, and an old lady in this house, but the men aren't home. Cheng Yousuo came to block the front door early in the morning...

Song Yan also saw helplessness in Xiao Xiao's eyes.

Besides, how can a chicken "lay" eggs if he just stares at it like that?

"I have to persuade him to go to his mother's room." People from the provincial weaving group were watching.

This way the chickens will have time to lay eggs, and today we'll make them lay two eggs...

"Brother Cheng, why don't you go inside and warm up for a while? We can check if there are any eggs later," Song Yan advised.

Brother Cheng knew he had arrived too early; some people were still asleep at this hour! Even if they were awake, they might not have time to tidy up their houses.

Cheng Yousuo refused to go inside, his eyes fixed on the chicken coop, his gaze somewhat unfocused...

Song Yan could have simply kicked Cheng Yousuo out, but he didn't say it. The tension between his child and his wife was causing Cheng Yousuo extreme worry and depression; his eyes clearly reflected his current emotional state.

Song Yan thought it best to let him be.

Even a tough, honest man has his breaking point. If waiting makes him feel better, then let's wait...

During breakfast, the family members kept glancing out the window at Cheng Yousuo.

Aunt Wei sighed. She had tried to call Cheng Yousuo over for breakfast, but he refused to eat anything.

Aunt Wei: "He's going crazy! Hurry up and lay an egg, hen!"

Every household raises a few chickens, but the eggs they lay are never enough to eat, and sometimes they even have to trade them for other things. Eggs are precious. But the two children can't eat anything else but eggs, so Aunt Wei is willing to give them to them. It's really pitiful to see Cheng Yousuo just guarding the chicken coop like that.

Cheng Xiuyun was anxious yesterday to ask the supply and marketing cooperative if they needed new samples. She wanted Song Yan to take the initiative, so she refrained from coming.

She hadn't slept a wink all night because of this. She kept thinking it over and over and decided she had to go herself. So she arrived early in the morning, "Captain Cheng, what are you doing?"

Cheng Yousuo waved his hand, "It's nothing!" He was too lazy to pay any attention to Cheng Xiuyun.

Song Yan was in a bad mood and didn't want to talk to Cheng Xiuyun. She didn't even let her in the door, saying, "Go back, Director Liu said it'll be in a few days." Then Song Yan closed the door.

Cheng Xiuyun snorted and left.

Since she couldn't make steamed eggs, Song Yan decided to make something else! She cooked millet and vegetable porridge, all made from items from her spatial storage. She had intended to have Cheng Yousuo take it back with the herbal soup later. But Youfu happened to arrive and hurriedly took it back!

Cheng Yousuo continued to stare at the chicken coop! Song Yan sighed; at this rate, the chickens wouldn't be able to lay any more eggs.

"Good luck, if the two children can drink millet porridge, let me know," Song Yan instructed.

If the child could eat, Cheng Yousuo wouldn't need to stay here.

Soon after, Youfu returned, and the child only drank the porridge soup.

It's all stuff from the space! The child couldn't even eat it. Song Yan had only felt a glimmer of hope because the child could eat the eggs and medicine boiled with spring water from the space. How could this happen again…?

They're both spatial things, so what's the difference?
