Chapter 190. All Gone Wild

When Song Yan went to pull down Widow Wang's door, he really swaggered in without any sense of vigilance.

Ever since her mother-in-law mentioned the chickens laying eggs, Song Yan has become more cautious.

She was extra careful when she went out tonight.

Song Yan entered the space only after arriving at Wei Dazhuang's doorstep, changed her clothes, and braided her hair. She then carefully dusted her face with flour, leaving it deathly pale.

Song Yan tried her best to let others see her back, but also made preparations just in case.

Song Yan gave the door a hard tug, and it suddenly opened...

"I'll teach you to pretend to be a ghost and scare me..." Wei Dazhuang swung the stick without regard for anything else.

"Ah...ah!"

Uncle Wei heard the commotion next door, grabbed a stick, and ran out to see his son yelling stupidly. He quickly covered his son's mouth. "There's nothing outside, why are you yelling?"

Wei Dazhuang knelt limply on the ground.

His father only let go of him when he thought the boy had stopped shouting.

Wei Dazhuang knelt on the ground and kowtowed three times. "I was wrong, I will never dare to do it again, I promise I won't talk nonsense. Sister-in-law, I've kowtowed to you, please forgive me!"

"What are you doing?" Aunt Wei asked, feeling sorry for her son. The ground was so cold! She and her husband practically dragged their son into the house.

Wei Dazhuang's wife stood there blankly in the doorway. Wei's second aunt, furious, pushed her away.

"What exactly are you trying to do?" Uncle Wei roared at his son, who insisted on kneeling on the ground even after entering the house!

“It’s true, I saw it too,” Da Zhuang’s wife said, trembling. “It was Wei Anniang, wearing a floral shirt, with two braids, her face was deathly pale. She vanished in a flash.”

I saw it very clearly.

She followed right behind Dazhuang, and even though the moonlight wasn't bright enough, she could still clearly see the female ghost in her floral shirt, her face deathly pale…

"Nonsense, you're just scared out of your wits. I didn't see that ghost come looking for me!" Uncle Wei was angry when he saw his son's cowardly appearance.

He had barely finished speaking when the door was suddenly yanked open.

Uncle Wei thought it was just a scare tactic. He darted out in a flash, intending to grab the person pretending to be a ghost.

He stood dumbfounded at the door. What was outside? Only loneliness. "Are there really ghosts in the world? I'll close the door right now, you can't pull it open if you don't believe me." Uncle Wei's hands were trembling slightly.

The door had just closed when it was suddenly yanked open. Before Uncle Wei could let go, he pulled him out a step.

Uncle Wei felt the force of the door being pulled open. But the door was empty; there wasn't a soul in sight.

Uncle Wei fell to his knees with a thud.

This time he believed it.

These people knelt on the ground, praying incessantly and repeatedly admitting their mistakes. "I was wrong, I'll never do it again. Please forgive me," and similar phrases.

Aunt Wei chattered on and on. "Tomorrow we'll go find Song Yan and have her go to Ai Jun's wife's grave and say a few words."

“Yes. You’re right. We’ll go find Song Yan tomorrow,” Wei Dazhuang said.

It's good that they can come find me. They thought they had to keep Jiang Xiaoxiao's matter a secret.

When they come to me, I'll let them do what they need to do.

After finishing her business, Song Yan went back. She realized once again the benefits of being cautious.

If you're not careful and don't try to cover your face, you might end up with a face full of flour. You'd be exposed if you were face-to-face with Wei Dazhuang...

I got up earlier than usual this morning. Uncle Wei, Aunt Wei, and Wei Dazhuang and his wife were all outside the door.

"What are you all doing so early in the morning?" Song Yan pretended not to know anything.

"Second son's wife, you have to help us out. If we've ever done anything wrong before, we've apologized to you; please forgive us..."

Their attitude was excellent.

They wanted Song Yan to go to Wei An's mother's grave and pray, saying that they knew they were wrong and would never dare to wrong Wei Ping and Wei An again.

It would have been better if we had done this earlier.

They swore an oath and promised not to tell anyone about it.

Song Yan: "It is wrong to spread rumors."

As you know, this matter has already reached the commune police station. The best course of action is for you to truthfully tell the police officers what you saw.”

Uncle Wei's family hesitated. If they came forward to testify, they would be directly confronting the Party Secretary's family.

“If you can’t do it, don’t expect me and my sister-in-law to nag you. You want to ask for favors and not do anything? Is that even possible?”

Their testimonies could completely disprove Cheng Yi's case.

“Fine, we’ll listen to you. But you have to keep your word. If your nagging doesn’t work, what if Wei An’s mother comes again?” Wei Dazhuang’s eyes were filled with fear.

"If it doesn't work, then you won't testify," Song Yan said casually.

Uncle Wei was terrified. "That's for sure! It has to work! Second nephew's wife, you should explain it to her carefully. We'll do exactly what you asked us to do."

Song Yan gave them a final instruction on what to do before sending them away.

They were indeed chased away. Because they were worried, they repeatedly instructed Song Yan to make sure he delivered the message.

If we don't leave soon, the weaving team will arrive, and it won't look good if we see them.

Jiang Xiaoxiao doubted whether Song Yan's chanting had actually worked. Did it mean their house would stop being haunted at night?

Song Yan: "Haunted? What ghosts? They're just guilty of something."

Cheng Xiuyun had no idea that a big surprise awaited her the next day.

One pot of dye couldn't possibly produce that much material. But yesterday, Wang Zhuzi not only produced so much, but also had half a pot of dye left over. What went wrong?

The ingredients were not fully soaked in the pot, and they did not absorb the dye properly.

Then she dyed so many more in one go.

When I checked in the morning, oh dear, all the materials were unevenly colored. The cattails and corn chips were of inconsistent shades, some dark and some light.

This means both the materials and the dye are wasted. Dye is easy to fix; we can save up the money to buy more, but we can't fix the materials.

If the cattails we harvest now are usable, and we also have corn husks, wouldn't other villages have also set up weaving groups?

The dyed materials all needed to be hung to drain and dry. Looking at so many materials, with uneven dyeing and varying shades, Cheng Xiuyun felt a little dizzy.

The women in the weaving group panicked. The materials were wasted, the dyes were wasted. Without these things, how would they earn a living?

"What should we do? Should we go find Huang Guoqing to see if there's any way to salvage this?"

"They can't come, can they? Jiang Xiaoxiao's incident happened again yesterday."

"Go find Secretary Cheng!"

"These raw materials cost money. These materials could also be sold for money. Now they're all gone."

Suddenly, the knitting group was noisy and bustling, its usual tranquility long gone.
