Chapter 239 Report

When Song Yan returned, there were already quite a few people in the courtyard and inside the house.

Most of the people who didn't go to work are here.

As Song Yan entered the courtyard, a man walked out of the house with a serious expression. "You must be Comrade Song Yan."

"Hello, I'm Song Yan." Song Yan remained calm.

“Come with us, we have something to investigate,” the stern man said.

They didn't explain who they were, provided any evidence, or give any background information. They just wanted to take the person away like that.

"What's going on? Are you from the commune? Why are you taking our brigade's people away?" Cheng Yousuo came running up, panting.

The commune was the superior unit and had absolute management authority over the production brigade, and could issue orders.

"Of course we'll take people away if we're going to investigate. Who are you?" The man remained serious, his tone still arrogant.

“I am the militia captain! Comrade Song is a military family member! We should support the military and their families, shouldn’t we? Comrade Song, your selflessness is recognized as an outstanding young man in our brigade.” Cheng Yousuo took the initiative to reach out and shake hands with the man.

But that person acted as if they hadn't seen him. "No matter who he is, we must treat everyone the same. We'll treat all those who make mistakes the same way."

Captain Wu also arrived, followed by a long line of villagers, all of them young and strong. "Comrade, hello. I am the captain of Qingshan Brigade." The captain also extended his hand.

The stern-faced man reluctantly extended his proud hand to shake hands with the captain.

“Comrade Song Yan has made a mistake, and we need to take him away for education,” the stern man said.

"That's not right. They said they were going to investigate, how did this turn into education?" Cheng Yousuo protested.

Then a short man came out of the house and tugged at the serious-looking man. He whispered, "She's a military dependent."

Shen Hanyang delivered the gun and then quickly came over, carrying three pheasants in his hand.

"Accountant Shen, this is a wild pheasant that was brought over from the public security bureau. Hurry up and take it to the brigade headquarters to find someone to stew it. We're entertaining our guests today." Brigade Leader Wu said as he pulled Accountant Shen outside. He whispered, "Go find Grandma Wang, the family of a martyr, and tell her to come quickly."

Captain Wu turned around and came back. "It's already this late, it's not too late to start working after lunch, is it?"

The stern-faced man was reluctant to agree, but the shorter man next to him tugged at him again. "Deputy Director, we're already tired from cycling all this way, let's take a break!"

Aunt Wei turned pale with fright and clung tightly to Song Yan, repeatedly muttering, "You can't arrest people! You can't arrest people!"

Wei An and Wei Ping also stood beside Song Yan, pulling him along.

"It's so sunny here, everyone should sit inside. Jiang Xiaoxiao, go and boil some water for everyone," said Captain Wu.

The serious-looking man wanted to leave, but the others who had come with him were quite tempted by the prospect of chicken. He hesitated for a moment, then went back inside.

These people ransacked the house. On the stove was a basin with its wooden lid off. Inside was a cleaned rabbit.

The serious-looking man recalled what the whistleblower had said: "She's in contact with those bad elements, she's adopted their ways, and she lives a life of luxury."

"Look at her, her lifestyle is so decadent. She eats meat every day, where does she get the money to buy meat? We can't stay here, let's take her back quickly." The serious man was afraid that if he ate someone's food, he would feel indebted to them.

When the leader speaks, the subordinates have no choice but to obey.

The two men were about to arrest Song Yan.

Cheng Yousuo pulled Song Yan behind him and said, "What do you mean by corruption? Who said this rabbit was bought with money?"

Cheng Yousuo is tall and imposing, which gives people a great sense of pressure, especially when he is angry.

The captain remained silent, feeling these people were being incredibly rude. "Someone personally praised by the county magistrate—you think you can just arrest him like that?"

"How dare you disobey orders?" the stern man said.

“You’re all talking nonsense. Can’t I even ask? You’re saying she eats meat every day just because she’s a rabbit! And that she spent money? Has anyone seen her spend any money?” Cheng Yousuo said.

"Where did this rabbit come from if it didn't cost money?" the serious-looking man asked.

“I caught the rabbit,” Song Yan said.

"You said you arrested him, so you arrested him." The serious-looking man still looked intimidated by Cheng Yousuo. Sure enough, the woman was right; Song Yan was good at instigating, and everyone listened to her.

"So you say it wasn't arrested, then it wasn't arrested? What makes you say that?" some people outside started to jeer.

"Stop talking nonsense and take him away quickly," the stern man said.

Captain Wu waved his hand, and the people outside came in. They were all militiamen that Cheng Yousuo had called in.

Six people from the management committee came, and suddenly so many able-bodied young men came in.

“We should always be reasonable, right? Why are you taking our team away like that?” Brother Cheng shouted.

“That’s right! Take one of them away, let me see. What did she do wrong? What law did she break? You two explain it clearly here.” Chen Xiaodong.

“A young and beautiful wife, and you’re taking her away without saying a word? What’s going on?” Sister-in-law Cheng came over with a headscarf wrapped around her head.

"My God! You're still in your postpartum period?" the villager said.

Seeing these menacing people, Da Mei was terrified and ran home. Her mother, upon hearing what had happened, was furious and rushed over without hesitation.

"What are you doing? Do you even know what mistake Comrade Song Yan made? You're obstructing our work." The stern man was now too embarrassed to refuse to take Song Yan away. Taking him away was definitely out of the question.

“Tell me what mistake she made. If you can’t give me a clear answer, you’ll have to step over my dead body.”
