Just then, a person on a bicycle arrived outside the courtyard, carrying a woman on the back. Everyone recognized this person; it was Dong Mingming.
Dong Mingming got off the bicycle, a hint of smugness in her eyes.
"Grandma Wang, this is the comrade who came to us to report Comrade Song Yan, saying that she learned her medical skills from people with corrupt ideas." Director Fan's attitude was particularly respectful.
Dong Mingming was somewhat surprised. Wasn't the old lady just a family member of a martyr?
"She has evidence for her report, right?" Grandma Wang asked.
Director Fan turned around. "Today, I will investigate this matter thoroughly in front of everyone in your brigade."
Comrade Dong Mingming, you need evidence to make your report. What is your evidence?
"The matter is already so clear, why do we still need evidence?" Dong Mingming asked in surprise.
"What do you mean? Are you just spouting nonsense?" Sister-in-law Cheng slapped him across the face.
"You hit me! How could you hit me?" Dong Mingming was weak and helpless at the moment, crying and sobbing. She thought it would be best to gain sympathy.
"Comrades of the commune, look at her! She's exactly like that. She deliberately breaks the farm tools when she's working, and she deliberately lets the weeds live when she's weeding. She doesn't weed, she just hoes the seedlings. She's damaging public property and doesn't want us to have a good harvest. She doesn't have a single good thought in her mind. Don't you think she's sabotaging national construction?" Sister-in-law Cheng rushed into the crowd and said.
"She's the last to start work, and the fastest to leave after work," someone outside the yard shouted.
"She's of bad character and morally corrupt." Sister-in-law Cheng didn't know when she had heard people say such things, but they were definitely not nice.
"I heard her secretly swearing."...
Everyone started talking at once.
"You actually believe people like that?" Grandma Wang asked.
Dong Mingming became anxious, "Song Yan didn't learn medicine from those who made mistakes, so how did she learn to treat patients? Medical skills can't be innate, can they?"
Song Yan: "As I said, I taught myself."
"You're self-taught, so where are the books? Do you even have any?" Dong Mingming looked like she had caught Song Yan red-handed.
The serious-looking man suddenly turned to look at Dong Mingming, a hint of surprise on his face. Of course, Dong Mingming didn't understand the source of his surprise.
Song Yan glanced at the people who had initially rummaged through her room. "You know whether I have books or not, right?"
Cheng Yousuo: "Send two people to check if there are any books in the room. Bring them out."
A moment later, the militiamen carried out a pile of books using cloth sheets.
Auntie's books were always neatly arranged, never like this. Wei Ping ran over and carefully stacked the books one by one. Wei An also came to help.
Song Yan picked up a book. "These are all my books. Dong Mingming, you're framing me."
"Impossible!" Dong Mingming didn't believe it, but she had no evidence.
Captain Wu: "Director Fan, Song Yan has only been in our brigade for a year. Even if a teacher teaches a student every day, it's not possible to learn everything in a year!"
Comrade Song Yan has cured several people; his medical skills are quite good. He certainly didn't learn them recently.
Director Fan: "Captain Wu is right." He and Wu Changsheng both know each other.
The brigade leader jumped out to speak for Song Yan, and Dong Mingming became anxious, "The brigade leader is your son-in-law, He Jianian said that Song Yan has never studied medicine before."
The captain's face immediately darkened. How did this drag another one into this? What kind of trouble is He Jianian causing now?
He Jianian also came to watch the commotion. He immediately stepped out of the crowd, saying, "Dong Mingming, I never said anything like that. You can't frame me."
"That's what you said." Dong Mingming's voice was sharp and anxious.
Captain Wu, with a stern face, asked, "He Jianian, did you tell me or not?"
He Jianian: "I really didn't say anything. Dong Mingming asked me if I had ever seen any medical books at Song Yan's house before. What do you think I said back then?"
Dong Mingming recalled the scene at the time: "You didn't say anything, you just shook your head. That means Song Yan's family didn't have any medical books before. She bought these medical books to cover up what others might see."
He Jianian: "That's not what I meant. I meant I didn't know if she had any books. Grandma Song Yan is quite something; none of the neighborhood kids go to her house."
Jiang Xiaoxiao is here! She and Song Yan are best friends, and she never goes there.
How would I know if she has any books at home?
You asked me if I'd ever seen her treat patients before? I said no. I really haven't. I've only heard about her treating patients from other people; I've never actually seen her do it myself.
You asked me if she had ever been apprenticed to a master? I said we don't have any contact, I didn't know. You said we're from different places, right? I said I didn't know before she came to the brigade. Even after she came to the brigade, I didn't know!
I didn't know she was studying medicine!
Dong Mingming was sweating profusely.
He Jianian's words were ambiguous, and Dong Mingming had only assumed that.
Song Yan thought: Dong Mingming must have offended He Jianian; she got tricked by He Jianian.
The two children neatly stacked the books into three piles, each pile taller than a stool.
Director Fan patted the book and said, "Song Yan is truly a diligent and studious comrade. We must also keep our eyes open and be able to distinguish who are good comrades."
Comrades like Dong Mingming should be punished.
Was she an educated youth sent to the countryside? The brigade leader recorded a demerit on her in her file.
And I will go to the educated youth office. How should we deal with this comrade? We need to study this more carefully.
Our comrades will be punished if they handle their work improperly.
"It's a misunderstanding, but it'll be cleared up now," said Captain Wu. "Aunt Wang, you can rest assured now! We won't wrong our good comrade."
"Captain Wu is right, good comrade, we will definitely not wrong you. Thank you for your help today, Aunt Wang. Let me take you home." Director Fan helped Grandma Wang up.
