For Jinghua's sake, Mom went to her own home every day, neglecting Dad at home. Old Fang realized this wasn't a solution, so he suggested that Jinghua's parents come and live with them. Mom happily agreed, but Dad and her brothers disagreed. They argued that sons weren't neglecting their parents, so why should they live with their daughter?
My own mother doesn't care about that kind of thing! Your objections are useless; I want to go to my daughter's house, so I'll go. My father had no choice; his wife wasn't coming back, so he had to come along.
Since her in-laws passed away early, Shen Hongxiang didn't need to worry about her husband's family; her parents could come whenever they wanted. The problem was, her mother doted on Jinghua rotten. After Jinghua, Shen Hongxiang gave birth to two more sons, each more mischievous than the last, and her mother protected them both, forbidding anyone to say a word against them.
She and her husband were both worried about this. Of the three children, Jinghua was the most favored, and her mother even told the two younger children to protect their older sister.
When it comes to issues related to children's education, she and Lao Fang have no say.
Shen Hongxiang glanced apologetically at her husband.
"Grandpa, don't blame me. That guy surnamed Wei isn't a good person either. I don't know how he got that second-class merit! If I were the leader, I would investigate him thoroughly! Humph!" Fang Jinghua was very unhappy.
"You little brat, it's none of your business to criticize the merits they've made by risking their lives!" Old Fang was always quick to anger.
"Calling me 'little girl' means you're belittling me. If it weren't for Grandma protecting me, you'd be biased towards boys!"
So what if he risked his life? Just because someone risks their life doesn't mean you can't criticize their character! And now he's earned another military merit! That was an opportunity given to him by his superiors. His superiors are blind; he doesn't deserve such an opportunity! Fang Jinghua was still angry at the thought of Wei Aiguo beating his wife!
Grandma Shen tugged at Fang Jinghua. She was protective of her, but she didn't approve of children talking back to their parents.
Fang Jinghua understood what her grandmother meant. "Grandma, I'm telling the truth. That Wei Aiguo is a really bad person. I offered his wife money, but she didn't dare to take it! She was even afraid Wei Aiguo would beat her up!"
Old Fang didn't believe a word Fang Jinghua said, but when he heard that Fang Jinghua had gone to see Wei Aiguo's wife, he had no idea what kind of trouble his daughter was causing this time. "You went to see Wei Aiguo's wife? Are you being unreasonable?" Old Fang was most afraid that his daughter would say something bad under his name.
"I didn't!" Fang Jinghua was not afraid of her father at all.
Grandma Shen pulled Fang Jinghua along, "Come on, tell Grandma what you've been doing?" The old lady doted on her granddaughter and wouldn't speak ill of the child in front of others, not even her parents. She needed to ask quickly if Jinghua had threatened anyone in her father's name; that wouldn't be good, she still had to talk to her about it.
The old lady pulled Fang Jinghua away, and Shen Hongxiang quickly followed to listen. Old Fang was truly angry. Besides, the man was a wounded war hero; her daughter shouldn't go too far…
The daughter rattled off a string of words, "Grandma, is that Wei Aiguo a hero? I actually admired him quite a bit. He was so badly injured; it must have hurt so much to move him before the anesthesia, but he didn't utter a single sound. I even admired his toughness. He's a decent-looking guy too. But he's a wife-beater!"
How could his wife be so useless? She even said someone like me would get beaten eight times a day!
Who dares? Try touching a single hair on my head!
Shen Hongxiang knew her daughter had made a mistake and been suspended from her job. She had gone up to the second floor and seen Wei Aiguo's wife. Could she have been beaten up? This silly girl, they probably didn't want her money, but they were afraid she would pester them!
Shen Hongxiang also breathed a sigh of relief. There was no news from the hospital, which meant that Wei Aiguo's wife hadn't made a scene. If people insisted that Fang Jinghua was relentlessly harassing her, it wouldn't look good for her either.
“My Jinghua is just kind-hearted and feels sorry for others! Everyone lives their own life, and if they are happy, you shouldn’t meddle!” said Old Mrs. Shen.
"Grandma! Why is someone like that a war hero!" Fang Jinghua shook the old lady's hand.
"Why? Because he almost lost his life! You believe everything you hear, stop making a scene! You've already implicated your head nurse, are you going to drag your dad into this too?" Shen Hongxiang couldn't contain her anger when she heard her daughter's evaluation of the other person's military achievements.
"Why are you yelling? We're just talking at home!" the old lady yelled at her daughter first.
"Good child, don't mention military merits anymore!" Grandma Shen advised her granddaughter again.
“I know I implicated the head nurse, so I wanted to give Wei Aiguo’s wife money so she would forgive the head nurse. As for myself, I’m still the same as always! It’s just that I didn’t have time to say it.” Fang Jinghua said, her head hanging low and shoulders slumped, unlike her usual lively self.
Grandma Shen immediately felt sorry for him, "You said it after his father finished speaking, and even followed him into the room to say it. You should get out of here right now!"
Shen Hongxiang was furious, but that's just how her mother was, what could she do?
The old man and his wife were alone in the room. The old man was also very worried. "Mom protects Jinghua too much. She protects her at home and outside. When she went to the department, Mom even went with her for three days. With Dad's status, who can say anything to the old lady? Jinghua went to find Wei Aiguo's wife again, but she didn't come.
