Yueyue is such a stubborn child.
Wei An and her third aunt couldn't stop Yueyue from bringing Bai Shuang out. She took a small stool and sat in the shade outside the courtyard where the Hu family lived, reading the picture books her mother had bought for her. Her third aunt and Wei An were worried and stayed with her the whole time.
Old Zeng called her, but she wouldn't leave.
Mrs. He and her grandson didn't dare to come out.
Old Mrs. Hu, who lived in the same courtyard as Mrs. He, came out.
Yueyue asked Grandma Hu, "Grandma Hu, can I come to your house to play?"
She was unaware of what was happening outside, and she found it strange that the child had never visited her home before.
Mrs. Hu and Aunt Wei had known each other for a few days and thought the family was alright. Even though they only had a small child, it wouldn't be right to refuse them entry.
She had originally planned to go out to cool off, but instead said, "Come on, let's go to Grandma's house to play."
Yueyue followed Grandma Hu into the yard.
"Dog, dog, come inside!" Erdan barked and ran inside. Sandan followed suit, tumbling and crawling.
Mrs. He opened the window. "You little brat, what are you doing in my yard? Get out!"
"Grandma Hu, does this yard belong to her?" Yueyue asked, tilting her little face up.
Mrs. Hu understood perfectly well; Mrs. He had acted recklessly again. That old hag never learns her lesson. She was happy to watch the spectacle.
"This yard belongs to everyone. What business is it of hers if you come to my house to play?"
"Third Aunt, you chat with Grandma Hu, I'm listening." Yueyue pulled Grandma Hu's five-year-old grandson, nicknamed Xiaobao, to look at a picture book and gave him candy.
They sat in the shade.
Mrs. He didn't dare open the door. She had been looking at Yueyue through the open window, and the old lady kept glaring at her.
Bai Shuang lunged onto the windowsill, startling her so much that she closed the window.
Mrs. He's house was right in the afternoon sun, and the temperature inside was extremely high. Opening the windows and doors might have made things a little better. But they were all closed.
My third aunt was a little worried, because there were still two children in Mrs. He's room! Children can't stand the heat.
This can't go on!
Auntie San and Wei An tried to coax Yueyue to leave, but Yueyue wouldn't budge. They tried to carry her, but as soon as they did, she screamed incessantly, the sound deafening. They were really worried she'd ruin her voice.
Mrs. Hu's biggest annoyance is Mrs. He, who's always arguing and bickering. She's content with watching the drama unfold; she doesn't have to see things go wrong.
Why are the people living in the east wing not home in the afternoons during this season? Because it's unbearably hot.
But honestly, she really didn't dare to kick Yueyue out. Only that silly Mrs. He couldn't see through the difference between the two kings.
Old Mrs. Hu reluctantly suggested that it was too hot in the courtyard and suggested going to the alley entrance instead.
Auntie quickly said, "Let's go, I'll buy you an ice pop later."
"Then let's eat popsicles here." Yueyue remained seated.
Mrs. Hu: "Child, you can't hear the popsicle vendors calling out here. You can sit here all afternoon and you still won't get a popsicle."
The popsicles were icy cold and sweet. Yueyue thought for a long time before finally agreeing to go out.
Auntie San gave Wei An money to buy popsicles. Wei An refused. She said it was pocket money from her aunt.
Yueyue sat with her grandma, eating the popsicles her sister had bought, her little legs swinging leisurely.
Mrs. Hu held back until the grandmother and granddaughter left before she spoke about what the little girl had done.
By evening, everyone in the alley knew that Mrs. He had been dealt with by the Wei family's young maid again.
He keeps two such big dogs, which makes people a little uncomfortable, because they're afraid of them. But after observing them for the past few days, it seems like nothing happens if you don't bother them; the dogs are quite intelligent.
When the adults in her family take the dog out for a walk, they always use a leash.
Just don't mess with that little girl of his. If you do, she'll take the dog off its leash.
It would be best not to keep such a big dog, but Director Cai of the neighborhood committee said that it was a retired military dog and nobody could interfere.
After today's events, Yueyue has truly established her authority.
The adults in the alley were especially strict with their children, making sure not to mess with the youngest member of the Wei family.
Every family had given Yueyue countless warnings, because she always pulled out snacks from her bag. It's not unusual for older children to take food from younger children. But this child shouldn't be allowed to take it.
This continued until Song Yan's family moved away. The adults in this alley would tell their children not to touch Yueyue, not to fight with that child, not to take her food, and so on.
Song Yan was worried that Bai Shuang might hurt someone in a moment of panic. Song Yan also noticed that Bai Shuang listened to Yue Yue very much, and if someone foolishly angered Yue Yue, Bai Shuang would definitely bite them.
She was worried that some immature children might scare Yueyue. Could Bai Shuang tell whether it was genuine malice or just a bluff?
Bai Shuang gets irritable whenever Yueyue cries. It wouldn't be good if Yueyue got hurt by Bai Shuang.
After what happened today, Song Yan had no choice but to reason with Yueyue again.
“The frost doesn’t bite!” Yueyue said.
Song Yan tried to persuade Bai Shuang, saying that she wasn't human, but a dog, and what if she didn't know better?
"Frost doesn't bite..."
Song Yan tried to persuade her at length, but Yueyue only said one thing: Bai Shuang doesn't bite.
Song Yan raised his hand and put it down, then raised it again.
Old Zeng watched with bated breath. Aunt Wei didn't stop her, but she was so anxious she kept pacing back and forth.
Later, Lao Zeng took Yueyue away, and the scolding ended.
Song Yan now understands the feeling of grandparents protecting their grandchildren when parents try to discipline them.
When Wei Aiguo came back that evening, Song Yan told him about it.
