Xia Juntao then talked about his own experience, "You know, teachers are always nagging about studying! I've been nagging them about studying since I was little, so I've never given up on my studies."
"I thought I'd spend my whole life farming there. Really, I never imagined I'd be able to come back and take the college entrance exam," Xia Juntao said while eating.
After hearing this, Shen Ruomei didn't say anything more and slowly finished her bowl of noodles.
"Is there any more? Let me get you some more," Xia Juntao asked.
Shen Ruomei: "I'm full!"
"I'll eat the rest!" Xia Juntao sped up his eating, finishing the remaining bowl of noodles in just a few bites.
Xia Juntao took the bowls to the kitchen to wash them. Shen Ruomei followed behind him. "Squad leader, thank you!"
"What are you thanking me for?" Xia Juntao asked.
"Thank you for helping me argue, and thank you for comforting me!" Shen Ruomei said.
“I’m not trying to comfort you; you need to figure things out for yourself!” Xia Juntao said.
“My little problem is nothing compared to survival.”
I've been very lucky; I've never lacked food or drink since I was a child. I've never suffered the hardships you've endured.
"No matter how much that woman throws a tantrum, she wouldn't dare hit me. Because she's afraid of my dad," Shen Ruomei said, leaning against the wall. "You're really something!"
You didn't give up on your studies even in that environment; your English is really good!
"You've praised the wrong person, haven't you? It's your fourth sister who's really impressive!"
I struggle to support myself! I know my grandma is old and can't do much work. It's certain she won't have enough to eat.
I wanted to save up some food stamps and money for her. But by the end of the year, I had almost nothing left.
I only had a few dollars in my hand at the time, and I was incredibly frustrated!
"So when I saw you making money at your stall, I wanted to earn some money too. Even though Grandma doesn't need anything now, I still want to buy her something," Xia Juntao said.

Shen Ruomei suddenly asked Xia Juntao, "Duan Xueting is trying to pursue you, right? Why don't you accept her?"

"If you don't stand firm, my fourth sister will disown you as her junior disciple!" A smile returned to Shen Ruomei's face.
"Let's count the money! I regretted it then and there. Why didn't I take more goods?" Xia Juntao was as happy as a mouse that had stolen oil.
Shen Ruomei rummaged through her bag for the haphazardly shoved money. "Don't forget what kind of pretense you used to earn this money! How can I not feel at ease with so much money!"
“I did lie, but it was to cover for you, right? You can’t be so ungrateful! Go and confess to my junior uncle!” Xia Juntao said.
"Couldn't you have made up another reason?" Shen Ruomei complained.
"I didn't have time to think about it then. Isn't it because everyone has the highest respect for soldiers and their families? I just blurted it out..." Xia Juntao regretted it as soon as he finished speaking, but it was too late.
The two of them chatted as they left Xia Juntao's house.
Xia Juntao: "Go and deposit the money in the bank!"
I'll go get some more goods; I can't let those people wait in vain tomorrow!
And so the two parted ways!
Xia Juntao rode his bicycle faster and headed straight for Song Yan's house.
After listening to Xia Juntao recount the whole story, Song Yan glared at him fiercely. "Do you think I'm short of money?"
"I know Junior Uncle isn't short of money, I've come to Junior Uncle to save my life!"
I was afraid that woman would realize what was happening and cause trouble again. So I came to confess!
Song Yan circled around Xia Juntao, making Xia Juntao feel uneasy. "What's wrong? Junior Uncle! Don't look at me like that!"

Xia Juntao thought to himself: This young man with a high seniority is really difficult to deal with. He didn't want to beg for mercy from a woman several years younger than him.
"Xia Juntao, tell me honestly, do you want to get promoted?" Song Yan asked.
"Upgrade? What upgrade?" Xia Juntao didn't understand.
"Are you trying to elevate my status and address me differently?"
For example, someone who is a generation younger than me now could be promoted to the same generation as me!
"Are you planning to change 'Junior Uncle' to 'Sister-in-law'?" Song Yan had noticed before that Xia Juntao treated Shen Ruomei quite well.
"I have a good impression of Ruomei, but it's just a matter of liking her. I haven't made any plans to change her address or seniority!" Xia Juntao said seriously.
Shen Ruomei herself didn't realize that her father's position determined her status.
