Chapter 159 Second Brother

Song Yan was right; when they returned, the police officers were waiting for Wei Aiguo.

Chang Xiaohu was the one who sent messages out, and Comrade Song Yan said that she found the bomb based on the information provided by Chang Xiaohu.

Chang Xiaohu was a member of the black market, and according to protocol, he should have been interrogated. However, Xiaohu remained silent. When pressed, he would ask, "Where's Brother Heizi?" No matter what you said after that, he would only respond with silence. People couldn't treat him like a criminal.

Since Chang Xiaohu wants to see Wei Aiguo so much, let him see him.

Wei Aiguo wanted to bring Song Yan along to meet Chang Xiaohu.

When they arrived at the police station, they met Shi Quan, who seemed somewhat embarrassed. It was only after Song Yan took the initiative to shake his hand that the atmosphere became less awkward.

Shi Quan was simply doing his job; he hadn't done anything wrong. Wei Aiguo, however, didn't want to get involved with the person who almost harmed Song Yan…

"Chang Xiaohu, the person you wanted to see has arrived."

"Hei Zi..." Chang Xiaohu swallowed the last "brother" in his throat. Wei Aiguo, dressed in military uniform, intimidated Chang Xiaohu.

"Don't you recognize me?" Wei Aiguo patted Chang Xiaohu on the shoulder. The police officer did not handcuff Chang Xiaohu.

"Can I still call you brother?" Chang Xiaohu asked softly.

"My surname is Wei, and my name is Wei Aiguo. I am the second oldest in my family. You can call me Second Brother from now on."

"Second Brother." Chang Xiaohu's voice was still not loud.

“This is my wife, call her sister-in-law.” Wei Aiguo’s expression softened considerably.

Chang Xiaohu looked at Song Yan, then at Wei Aiguo, then back at Song Yan. He seemed to understand what was going on. "Second Sister-in-law!"

"Okay!" Song Yan readily agreed.

"The police officer asked you why you wouldn't say anything," Wei Aiguo asked.

Chang Xiaohu blinked. "I was afraid they'd ask about you." Chang Xiaohu thought to himself, "I was afraid they'd tell everyone what you did. Who knew you two were husband and wife!"

Wei Aiguo sat opposite Chang Xiaohu in that chair. "You didn't commit a serious crime. The information you provided played a crucial role in their capture of the spies. You also helped spread the word. I think our good deeds and bad deeds can offset each other. What are your plans for the future?"

Chang Xiaohu shook his head. "I don't know."

“I’ll talk to my boss about your situation and ask him to help you. Even if I don’t, you won’t be in any serious trouble because of those two incidents.” Wei Aiguo paused and looked at Chang Xiaohu.

"Your hearing is far beyond that of ordinary people, and you can do a lot with it. As far as I know, some organizations need people like you. If you're interested, I can help you inquire. You might be able to make a name for yourself in such an organization. You might even rise to prominence in the future. But you need to think carefully. After all, you came from the black market. It's fine when you're unknown, but when you achieve something, someone might use that to attack you."

"There's another option. You know where your hometown is, right? We'll send you back to your ancestral home. You're still young; they need to ensure you have a means to survive. They might even arrange a job for you. Think about it, which one do you choose?"

Song Yan glanced at Wei Aiguo; clearly, many would choose the first path. Chang Xiaohu possessed such talent and was quite clever, making him more likely to succeed. Most people would see a bright future for Chang Xiaohu because of this. But Wei Aiguo worried that one day Chang Xiaohu might be attacked because of his background.

In today's social environment, the very things Wei Aiguo fears might happen. Could this be considered being prepared for unforeseen circumstances?

Joining the army really broadened his horizons and taught him a lot.

It's often said that heroes come from all walks of life, but first you have to become a hero. Many people face a lot of attacks before they become heroes. At that point, doesn't one's background matter?

Only a minority can become heroes.

"Second brother," Chang Xiaohu said somewhat awkwardly.

Wei Aiguo: "What are you thinking? Tell me."

"I used to think that I didn't need to steal; I just needed to work and earn money to support myself," Chang Xiaohu said, head down.

"This isn't difficult. No one will force you to steal anymore. Have you really thought it through and given up this potential opportunity to make a name for yourself?" Wei Aiguo asked.

"Well, but Second Brother, I don't want to go back to my hometown. I have no relatives left. Where are you serving in the army? Can I be closer to you?" Chang Xiaohu looked at Wei Aiguo with pleading eyes.

Wei Aiguo patted Chang Xiaohu on the shoulder. "Haven't you heard the saying, 'The barracks remain, but the soldiers come and go'? I can't serve in one place for my entire life. I might retire someday."

Chang Xiaohu's eyes were filled with disappointment. He'd spent so long in that den of thieves, and all they did was bully him. He always ate the least at mealtimes, and had to eat what others left over. If there was no leftover, he had nothing to eat. Only his second brother would hand him a warm, plump, white steamed bun.

"Then where should I go?" Chang Xiaohu asked, quite confused.

Wei Aiguo had an idea, but he wasn't sure if it would work, so he didn't say much. "Xiaohu, cooperate well with the police."

After Wei Aiguo spoke with Chang Xiaohu, Xiaohu answered all the questions asked by the police with an extremely cooperative attitude.

Tonight is destined to be a busy night.

After Cui Jian and Da Ba La's bodies were brought back, Wei Aiguo was asked to confirm the bodies again.

The police station had portraits of Da Ba La and Cui Jian to help them capture, but no one recognized them when they were seen.

Big Scar was disguised, and Cui Jian was no exception. Cui Jian had shaved his beard and cut his hair into the most common buzz cut. He was dressed in neat work clothes. It was a far cry from his usual carefree image. No wonder no one recognized him when he came in.

Even after being disguised, Big Scar is no longer the same as before.

The police officers took a statement from Song Yan. Even though Cui Jian died by suicide, they would still ask Song Yan about the events leading up to his death.

Wei Aiguo didn't have time to ask for instructions and directly shot and killed the criminal. Deputy Division Commander Zhao personally supervised the Public Security Bureau to complete the record of the incident. He carefully reviewed it several times to make sure there were no oversights! He also personally reviewed the record made for Song Yan.

Wei Aiguo was just an ordinary soldier, nothing special. Since Deputy Division Commander Zhao had been entrusted to keep an eye on him, he certainly couldn't let him suffer. Even without someone else's entrustment, he wouldn't let his subordinates who actually did the work suffer.

Once the trivial matters here were settled, the police officers returned, arrested the criminals who were planning to cause trouble, and seized the explosives.

To the southeast is a steel plant that supplies high-quality steel to many factories and boasts some of the best production lines in China. If it were damaged, the losses would be enormous and incalculable.
