Chapter 87 Letter

Song Yan took out half of the white flag from his spatial storage and had his mother-in-law and two children change the linings of their quilts. Their quilts were so old; in fact, the mother-in-law's quilts were patched almost to the point of being patched again—it was so uncomfortable!

Song Yan was willing to treat this kind old lady who was not fussy but cared about her well.

The mother-in-law touched the brand-new white floral flag, feeling that the good life she was living now was something she had never dared to dream of before. She really couldn't bear to use such fine fabric; she said she would save it for Wei Ping's future wedding!

Song Yan blinked repeatedly, making sure her mother-in-law wasn't talking in her sleep; she was really thinking far ahead. Twenty years from now, with softer, prettier four-piece bedding sets, who would still need this?

"What's there to be reluctant about?" Song Yan deliberately lowered his voice. "If Wei Ping needs anything in the future, I'll find a way to exchange it for grain."

The mother-in-law slowly nodded, "You're right." She stroked the white cloth fondly with her hand, "Then I'll listen to you and use the new one."

"Of course I'll use a new one! If my blanket is old, I'll replace it without hesitation..."

My happy and peaceful life was disrupted by the letter I received.

It's too cold, so the postman comes to the village once a week to deliver mail. Today, Xiaoxiao and Songyan both received letters from home, but Songyan's letter was sent by his second cousin.

Xiaoxiao and Song Yan both looked unwell after reading the letter.

Xiaoxiao looked at Song Yan with a troubled expression.

Song Yan spoke first, "You mentioned my family's situation in your letter?"

Xiaoxiao nodded vigorously.

Song Yan handed the letter to Xiao Xiao, and Xiao Xiao also handed her own letter to Song Yan.

Xiaoxiao's mother told Xiaoxiao that at first she didn't know why Song Yan's grandmother was always beating and scolding Song Yan's mother. Last night, even though it was so cold, she wouldn't let her into the house.

Early this morning, Xiaoxiao overheard an argument at her family's house. Grandma Song was demanding money from Song Yan's mother, saying that since Song Yan was so wealthy, what was wrong with sending some money to his uncle to help him get married? Song Yan's mother refused.

The fight was pretty fierce today. Several neighbors couldn't stand it anymore and broke into her house to pull Song Yan's mother out. This wasn't a solution, so Xiao Xiao's mother told her to decide whether to tell Song Yan based on the situation.

The second cousin's letter explained it clearly: He Jianian wrote home saying that Song Yan had married into a wealthy family in Qingshan Brigade, and that Song Yan herself earned several work points; her family was the only ones in the entire brigade who ate and dressed well. He Jianian's mother specifically told her grandmother about this.

Song Yan's second cousin warned her to be wary of He Jianian. They all worked at the same factory, so they knew each other's situations. Song Yan's grandmother had always been critical of her mother and looked down on Song Yan. If the family had been willing to support Song Yan through high school, she wouldn't have gone to the countryside.

He Jianian relayed this message back, and it's no wonder that Song Yan's grandmother would demand money from Song Yan. From then on, neither the second aunt nor Song Yan could live in peace.

The important thing is that Grandma is constantly causing trouble for my second aunt. Who knows what the consequences might be if this continues?

His second cousin told Song Yan to think of a solution, and if all else failed, he could take his aunt to the countryside. But he shouldn't offer her money. Once is never enough; Song Yan needed to live his own life and couldn't support someone else forever…

Song Yan put down the letter in his hand, sat down, and steadied his breathing.

The original owner's clearest memory of her family was her mother's love. Her mother truly loved her. Whenever the original owner was beaten or scolded, her mother was always there to protect her. Her mother said that she was able to survive only for Song Yan.

She's a good mother, it's just a pity she's too soft-hearted.

Now that she had taken over the original owner's body, she should fulfill her filial duties. She considered sending money and gifts, but she knew that no matter what she sent, it wouldn't end up in the original owner's mother's hands.

The original owner's father still loved his wife and daughter. However, he was soft-hearted and blindly filial, and couldn't handle his unreasonable and nagging mother at all.

The two of them were the ones who got bullied at home.

It seems that ever since Song Yan was born, the couple's entire salary has been controlled by the old lady. Even when Song Yan's mother uses sanitary napkins during her period, the old lady is reluctant to give her any money.

Old Mrs. Song is an absolute gem. Song Yan refuses to believe he can't turn her into trash.

Song Yan had always felt he couldn't face the original owner's mother, but now he couldn't care less.

My second cousin wrote to me asking me to bring my mother to the countryside, which means the situation is very bad.

The postmark date is seven days ago.

Xiaoxiao didn't dare to send the money home, for fear that Grandma Songyan would cause trouble if she found out.

Both of them went to the countryside, but Xiaoxiao was able to send money back, while Song Yan didn't. How could that be allowed?

Aunt Wei, who overheard the conversation, said, "How about we mail some money?"

"No, my money isn't for just anyone to spend." Song Yan put on her hat and scarf, then went to the brigade leader to get a certificate and ask for leave; she wanted to go home and visit her family.

Song Yan instructed Xiaoxiao to go find Cheng Yousuo and ask him to persuade me, to persuade me as much as possible, and to tell him that I was the one who said those words.

Xiaoxiao didn't understand what Song Yan meant. But going to Cheng Yousuo was the right thing to do; the couple certainly wouldn't let Song Yan suffer a loss.

Judging from Song Yan's furious appearance, he must have gone to settle accounts with He Jianian.

Xiaoxiao took off running and quickly went to find someone to help her.

It was midday, and the team leader was sure to be at home, so Song Yan went directly to find him.

Upon entering the brigade leader's courtyard, Song Yan adjusted his expression and greeted the brigade leader and his wife with a smile.

I'll deal with He Jianian today!

He Jianian was also there, putting on an air of superiority. Two days ago, He Jianian and Wu Meili held a simple wedding.

Song Yan didn't even glance at him. "Once I get the certificate, I'll make you a coward." Otherwise, the captain won't be in the mood to issue the certificate, which would be such a hassle!

Song Yan was going home to visit his family, and the brigade leader inquired about the situation of the weaving group.

Song Yan has already finished several samples. The women in the weaving group are now skilled workers; they can make finished products as soon as they have a pattern. Her absence won't disrupt their work.

The brigade leader was relieved to hear Song Yan's explanation. He issued Song Yan a certificate for visiting his family. It was cold, and he didn't want to go to the brigade headquarters; he kept the official seal at home. The certificate was stamped, and that was it.
