Chapter 256 Family Matters

Wei Aiguo used chopsticks to separate the egg white from the yolk before starting to eat. He ate quickly; by the time he finished, Song Yan hadn't even eaten half of his meal.

Wei Aiguo pushed the salted duck egg yolk from the lunchbox to Song Yan, "Eat it!"

"Why haven't you eaten?" Song Yan asked, then immediately felt stupid. "I brought plenty, there's no need to be stingy with it."

“I love both duck egg whites and yolks. Next time, give me all the egg whites and keep the yolks for you.” Wei Aiguo pushed the lunchbox again.

Even ordinary salted duck eggs have yolks that are fragrant and oily. The duck eggs in this space are especially delicious, the yolks are incredibly fragrant. With resources scarce these days, everything tastes good. But can your fine white flour compare to cornbread?

Duck egg whites are cornbread, and duck egg yolks are fine white flour.

Song Yan felt a warmth had been added to her days. After dinner, Song Yan washed the clothes she had taken off Wei Aiguo.

But how will he change his lower body clothing? He can't take off his shorts unless he cuts them. And none of Wei Aiguo's other pants are big enough to fit into. What will he do?

After having breakfast and tidying up, the doctors and nurses came to make their rounds soon after. Today it was Director Qiao's turn to make rounds.

Today shouldn't be the day for the grand rounds! Director Qiao's personal visit shows how much importance she places on Wei Aiguo. But I didn't see the head nurse from yesterday.

After Director Qiao left for his rounds, a female colleague who had been following him returned. "Hello, Comrade Song Yan. I am now the acting head nurse of the Orthopedics Department II. My surname is Yang."

Song Yan was very surprised; the head nurse had also been suspended?

Song Yan greeted her politely: "Hello, Head Nurse Yang."

Head Nurse Yang: "I sincerely apologize for the trouble caused to you due to our lack of diligence and responsibility. Please don't hesitate to ask if you need anything. You can come directly to me if you need anything."

Song Yan didn't want to trouble anyone, so he politely declined her offer.

Although Head Nurse Yang sensed Song Yan's aloofness, she remained very amiable. However, Song Yan didn't seem like an unreasonable person, which made things easier.

Not long after Nurse Yang left, Division Commander Zhao arrived in person. He took the initiative to shake hands with Song Yan, saying, "Comrade Song Yan, we meet again. Welcome to our unit."

Song Yan greeted Commander Zhao politely, "Thank you for taking care of Wei Aiguo, leaders and comrades. You've all gone to so much trouble!"

Commander Zhao waved his hand, "I am very ashamed. Miao Huan has already told me everything. Don't worry, I will definitely get justice for Comrade Wei Aiguo who suffered injustice."

Song Yan didn't respond to this, but turned to look at Wei Aiguo. Fang Jinghua was the deputy division commander's daughter; it was hard to say whether she would be punished or not, and someone might even come here to plead for her. Song Yan only smiled in response to Division Commander Zhao's words.

Wei Aiguo spoke up first, "Commander, my wife's emotions are influenced by me. She just wants to seek justice for me."

Commander Zhao chuckled, "I didn't say anything to you, kid. I was afraid you'd say something about your wife or something. Comrade Song Yan did nothing wrong."

Last night, Deputy Division Commander Fang called. He didn't hide anything or shirk responsibility. What he said was basically the same as what Miao Huan said. He hoped that Wei Aiguo and his wife could understand the situation.

Zhao Qiang was still furious. Wei Aiguo was someone an old friend had specifically asked him to look after. And what happened? Forget about any special care; he wasn't even given the most basic respect.

Fang Jinghua, that child actually thought of such a way to punish Wei Aiguo. She said she knew what she was doing, she just wanted to make things difficult for Wei Aiguo. She wouldn't let things escalate to the point where he would lose his dignity.

Commander Zhao should only believe half of what she said. It's hard to say what the consequences would be if she and Wei Aiguo both lost their temper.

Old Fang is good in every way, except he spoils his kids too much. He has three children, and all of them are unruly. I used to think Fang Jinghua was just a bit willful, but otherwise alright.

Judging from yesterday's incident, Fang Jinghua is far too spoiled. Putting everything else aside, Wei Aiguo isn't just an ordinary patient. He's a soldier, a soldier who was recently wounded in the line of duty. And she actually tried to threaten Wei Aiguo in a way that insulted his dignity.

Whether for public or private reasons, Zhao Qiang will give Wei Aiguo justice.

Wei Aiguo: "I also think my wife did nothing wrong. What she did yesterday was reasonable and well-founded."

Commander Zhao chuckled. This was Wei Aiguo's confidence; he could express his opinions directly to him. If it were Lao Fang, he would have only humiliated himself.

Wei Aiguo already has a second-class merit award, and this time it will probably be another collective third-class merit award.

Besides, he wouldn't like Wei Aiguo if he remained silent! A man should have guts.

Commander Zhao changed the subject, pointing to the fruit he had brought, "These are dried plums; if you had come a few days later, you wouldn't have been able to get them. These are peaches. These are fruits that don't grow in the north."

Song Yan quickly thanked her. She liked these fruits.

Actually, she saw the fruit that Commander Zhao was carrying as soon as he entered the ward. She was already thinking about where to plant it.

Commander Zhao then inquired whether Song Yan was experiencing any difficulties in his daily life, telling him to let him know if he was and that he would try his best to help. Then he prepared to leave.

Song Yan took out a corn husk tote bag from his backpack; it even had a lid.

Song Yan: "Commander Zhao, these are handicrafts I made. They contain local products from my hometown. I either picked them in the mountains in the fall or made them myself. Here, have a taste."

Commander Zhao didn't pay much attention to the local specialties, but he was really impressed by the bag.

Miao Huan stood behind the division commander, and it really was local produce. But this local produce was truly delicious. It contained dried fish, dried strawberries, and what appeared to be dried wild raisins. Why dried wild raisins? Because the pieces were exceptionally small.
