Song Yan went to the commune early in the morning and took the first bus to the county. He took the prescription Old Han had given him to the traditional Chinese medicine department of the county hospital to get the medicine. After getting three doses, Song Yan was still not at ease.
Old Liao is elderly, in poor physical condition, and has little resistance. A two-pronged approach would increase the chances of success.
Song Yan secretly put away the Chinese medicine where no one could see her. She then turned and went to the surgery department to find the head nurse.
Song Yan spoke to a nurse who was carrying a tray. "Hello, comrade, is the head nurse of the surgery department here?"
Just then, the ward door opened and a nurse came out. "Oh, it's Comrade Song! What brings you here?"
It turned out to be Xiao Zhang, the nurse who performed the allergy test on Wei An.
"You've been transferred to another department?" Song Yan asked.
"The surgery department has been quite busy lately, so I'm here to help out." Xiao Zhang smiled shyly, perhaps thinking of the past. "Sister Li, I've finished treating the patients in this ward; I just need to oversee the IV drips. I was thinking..." Xiao Zhang pointed to Song Yan and spoke to the nurse from before.
"Your relative? Go ahead and go!"
Xiao Zhang thanked her and led Song Yan away. "There's a meeting of all the head nurses in the hospital today, it'll probably last all morning, right? What do you need my sister for?"
Song Yan: "My relative is an elderly person who doesn't want to leave the village for treatment when she's sick. So I want to buy some intravenous anti-inflammatory drugs for her. She needs IV tubing, but it's not available for sale outside. So I'd like to borrow some from your head nurse. I don't know if the hospital allows lending out tubing?"
The two of them entered the nurses' duty room while talking.
"Do you know how to administer intravenous infusions?" Xiao Zhang had seen Song Yan perform acupuncture last time, and wondered if he knew how to insert needles.
Song Yan nodded. She really would.
“I can borrow the IV supplies. How will you sterilize them when you take them back? Improper sterilization or residual pyrogenic substances are very dangerous,” Xiao Zhang asked her.
Could Song Yan say she was dumbfounded? How could she have forgotten that there were no disposable supplies available and that disinfection was necessary? "I forgot about disinfection."
"Do you know how to give intramuscular injections? All you need for an intramuscular injection is a syringe and a needle. Of course, boiling a syringe for sterilization can't compare to the sterilization equipment in a hospital, but it's still usable," Xiao Zhang actively offered suggestions.
"I will!" Song Yan said confidently.
"Did you buy your medicine?" Xiao Zhang asked.
I heard that Song Yan didn't buy any medicine, so we took her to the doctor and asked him to prescribe some, saying that we wanted to take her home with us.
Currently, patients are only allowed to take gentamicin and chloramphenicol. Xiao Zhang asked Song Yan to describe the patient's condition. The doctor believed that gentamicin would be more effective. Xiao Zhang pleaded with the doctor to prescribe gentamicin.
After Song Yan paid and brought back the medicine, she waited a while before Xiao Zhang returned with a box. She wrapped a sterile package in a sterile towel. "This sterile package contains syringes. They're fine to use within twelve hours. At least you don't have to rush back to sterilize them. The wide-mouth bottle contains alcohol swabs for disinfection."
"What is this?" Song Yan pointed to the flask-like object fixed to the shelf in the box, which was connected to a curved tube.
Xiao Zhang: "This is a water distillation device that was discarded by the laboratory. The water used in the village is either river water or well water, which has too many impurities. It can't be used to clean syringes, nor can it be used to boil and sterilize syringes. I'll tell you how to make distilled water. The quantity is small, but it will definitely be enough for you."
"Thank you!" Song Yan was genuinely grateful to Xiao Zhang.
Xiao Zhang shook her head. "Thank you for your help back then. I worked at a clinic, and they disinfect everything themselves." She told Song Yan some very practical disinfection methods and what precautions to take.
Xiao Zhang also taught Song Yan how to perform aseptic procedures, all of which were very professional techniques. It's clear she's a very skilled young woman.
Song Yan understood everything Xiao Zhang taught him immediately, but he wouldn't have remembered it if Xiao Zhang hadn't reminded him.
"This thing is all glass. If I accidentally break it, can you pay for it back?" Song Yan asked.
"It's okay, these are all discarded items. If you've already used them, I can negotiate with them and even try to cheat them, they won't make me pay them back." It's clear that Xiao Zhang is well-liked.
What a kind girl! She escorted Song Yan all the way downstairs.
When they were about to part ways, Song Yan told her that he had saved some food for her in the duty room.
Xiao Zhang got anxious: "Why are you being so polite?"
Song Yan smiled, "It's not just for you. There are also some for the head nurse and Xiao Ge. Please give them to them for me!" Song Yan waved and left, wanting to especially thank Xiao Zhang today.
Looking at the things Song Yan had left for them under the bed, Xiao Zhang felt a warmth in her heart. Song Yan had thanked her repeatedly, and how could she not be grateful to Song Yan in return?
Three portions of dried fish were wrapped in oiled paper. A large net bag woven from cattail reeds contained one bag of large red dates and one bag of pine nuts. This was for them to distribute themselves…
Song Yan found a place to pack his things, changed his clothes, and went to the black market. Surprisingly, there wasn't a single person there. Had the black market moved?
Song Yan didn't really want to come to the county's black market anymore. But she wanted to find out about Xiao Chouzi. If he was still running rampant in the black market, he might implicate Li Yuanzhao in the future. Not wanting to waste any more time today, and since no one was around, Song Yan decided to just leave.
Song Yan hadn't walked far when she realized someone was following her. Song Yan wondered, should she deal with him, or shake him off?
"Hey girl, we've been working together for so long, when have I ever broken my promise? Don't just back out like that!" Boss Qin arrived with a smile.
Song Yan glanced back. "The people following me are yours."
