Deputy Factory Director Wei was in a very good mood, watching the group of people linger. He didn't get angry, a stark contrast to his recent dejected state.
"Factory manager, shouldn't we get an explanation?" Xu Jiefang asked.
“Deputy factory director, it’s your responsibility to handle these matters. You can’t just hide and stay out of it,” one employee said.
“As workers, your first priority should be going to work. Aren’t you all standing around here interfering with our work?” Deputy Factory Director Wei asked.
Xu Jiefang answered first. "We all came during our days off. We didn't miss a single minute of work."
“Deputy Factory Director Wei, don’t change the subject. We’re all here to seek benefits for the employees,” said Zhu Dalong, the union chairman.
Wei Chunxi: "I've already said it. This year's vegetable shortage is partly due to the weather and partly due to me. If I can't solve everyone's problem, I will resign. There's no need for you to be in such a hurry, is there?"
"It's been so long, and I haven't seen you solve everyone's problems. I haven't seen you resign either!" Xu Jiefang was certain that Wei Chunxi would step down, and he didn't hold back in his attack.
“Xu Jiefang, you’re always the only one talking. You keep saying you represent everyone, but can you really represent everyone?” Wei Chunxi asked.
“I can’t speak for everyone. But the facts are there. It’s your mistake that’s making it hard for us to get through the winter. You, you, and why are you here? Are you out of food at home?” Xu Jiefang said, pointing to the people who had blocked the factory director’s office.
“I don’t want to stand up and make things difficult for people, but what are we supposed to do if we don’t have any vegetables to eat during such a long winter? The people standing here represent everyone’s voice, not just for themselves.” Zhu Dalong made these people sound very selfless.
"You're not doing this for yourself? Look at what you're saying. It's like if there were cabbages, you'd share them with everyone, but you wouldn't want any for yourself," Wei Chunxi mocked.
"I really do think that way. If the factory can buy cabbages, I don't need them. I could even give up my whole family. I'm not here to cause trouble. I just hope the deputy factory director can come up with a solution to the problem quickly." Cabbages? That's a joke. Just empty words, right? Look at Wei Chunxi's character, let's see how long he can keep this up.
"Xu Jiefang, you think so too, and what about you, you…" Wei Chunxi gestured with her hand, "So everyone thinks the same way?" Wei Chunxi initially just wanted them to keep jumping around; the more they jumped around now, the more embarrassing it would be later. But she didn't expect there to be an unexpected gain.
“Yes, as long as everyone has vegetables to eat, my family doesn’t care,” Xu Jiefang chimed in again.
"And you?" Wei Chunxi then asked the others.
"That's what I think too."
"Me too, me too."
"Me too."
A few others chimed in quietly.
"Are you all representing your entire families?" Wei Chunxi asked, recognizing that these people were all loyal lackeys of Zhu Dalong.
The factory manager, who had been listening intently, finally spoke up. "I didn't expect our factory workers to be so conscientious, thinking only of everyone's needs. Secretary, write down what they said and have them sign it. We will definitely support those who are conscientious. Alright, the rest of you may leave now?"
"Factory director, this matter is still unresolved, how can we disperse?" Xu Jiefang shouted.
"What do you mean there's no result? Tomorrow, either the deputy factory director will resign, or there will be food. Okay, everyone disperse! If you don't leave now, I'll call the security team." The factory director said impatiently.
The secretary wrote a simple note, the gist of which was that she was willing to give up her family's share of cabbage. Those who were willing to give it up signed below.
First came Xu Jiefang and Zhu Dalong, followed by three more who signed. The rest of the group sensed something was off and hesitated. With some hesitating, the others also decided against signing. After all, it's all voluntary; if you don't want to sign, you don't have to.
They were fixated on Wei Chunxi's mistakes. Wei Chunxi was someone Zhu Dalong had personally promoted; who was Zhu Dalong targeting?
Factory Director Ge believed he had promoted Wei Chunxi out of impartiality. Zhu Dalong, on the other hand, was driven by excessive self-interest.
These days, they come and block the factory director's office door every day, which annoys the factory director to no end.
