Chapter 47: Intertwining Across the Air

Almost instantly, Luo Jiujiang felt the heart-wrenching pain of parting again.

Whether it was a separation in life or death, he would never allow himself to see such a scene again. Luo Jiujiang's eyes sharpened, and he drew the long sword from his waist with its scabbard, and at the same time, a clear and killing force burst out from his mouth: "Recover your senses and let go—"

When the hand of the girl who was half snow and half strange beast that was pinching Xiao Ren's neck loosened slightly, Luo Jiujiang swung sideways and approached the two of them. He used all his strength to struggle on Xiao Ren's back with his left hand, and easily rescued Xiao Ren from the hand and threw him into the soft snow pile not far away.

At the same time, he grasped his scabbard with his right hand, and slammed the handle of the knife into Feng Xue's already mutated scapula. He spared no effort in this move, and actually threw Feng Xue, who looked like a beast but not an animal, along with the two heavy stone chains on her wrists, onto the stone wall behind her!

A scream of pain suddenly rose from Feng Xue's throat.

"Shut up!" Luo Jiujiang shouted first. He turned the knife in his hand and pressed the entire scabbard against Feng Xue's neck. Without even looking, he stomped and kicked the heavy stone lock on the left with his right foot. In the blink of an eye, he tied Feng Xue around with the stone lock chain, which was not very long to begin with.

Seeing Feng Xue struggling fiercely, Luo Jiujiang quickly wrapped the right stone lock around her as well. After confirming that she was indeed pinned down by the weight and unable to move, he said in a deep voice, "Be quiet, calm down. Don't forget, you are not a beast, you are Feng Xue."

At this moment, his gaze lingered on Feng Xue's face, yet his memory seemed to have passed through this world and lingered in a secret realm from half a month ago. His eyes reflected the image of a strange beast with a green face and fangs, while his heart was filled with the image of a long blue dragon soaring into the sky.

"Don't be afraid." Luo Jiujiang's eyes were red with astonishment. "Are you in great pain?"

Feng Xue, who was struggling between human form and alien beast form, was of course no match for Luo Jiujiang. It was Xiao Ren behind him, who had just recovered from a semi-comatose state, who screamed "Sister" and suddenly passed Luo Jiujiang and pounced on the restrained Feng Xue.

The past and present overlapped once again before Luo Jiujiang's eyes, except that the girl had embraced the hideous beast, while he hadn't been able to touch the flying dragon. Luo Jiujiang laughed self-deprecatingly, took a few steps back, and leaned his back against the rocky cave wall.

He slowly closed his eyes, raised the corners of his lips, and spoke in a gentle tone, as if he was talking to a certain existence in the void that was watching him, and to a past that was difficult to let go: "Shh, don't be afraid, I'm with you. Don't fly away, and don't fail to recognize me. Let me sing a song for you."

The softest melody and the gentleness that can soothe people's hearts were all skillfully and brilliantly "blended" into this tone-killing minor tune by Luo Jiujiang.

At this point, the killing sound was no longer a weapon to break the deadlock in a confrontation. Luo Jiujiang hummed it softly, each measure carrying a gentle joy. The little spiritual energy Luo Jiujiang had just regained was drained away like water in this killing sound. His meridians once again felt like they were being cut by a knife, but as if afraid of startling something, his expression softened.

The restless Feng Xue gradually calmed down, and Xiao Ren, who was lying in Feng Xue's arms, turned around and looked at Luo Jiujiang.

The boy hummed a moonlit tune, praising the bright full moon in the watery night. It told of the waves that rose and fell like breaths, kissing the beach. It sang about how a girl would always meet a boy whose eyes reflected the color of the ocean. They would dance together to the sound of the tide, their feet stepping on a rainbow of beautiful shells...

As the song drew to a close, Feng Xue had already fallen into a deep sleep. Her sharp claws gradually shrank into pure white fingers, and her white teeth gradually lost their sharpness.

Luo Jiujiang could feel Xiao Ren approaching him. He sighed inwardly and opened his eyes: "Miss Xiao Ren?"

An ordinary person might say a few polite words at this time, such as "Excuse me, fellow Daoist" or "Thank you for your help", or at the very least, he would say with shame, "I didn't expect you to see such a scene"... But Xiao Ren is indeed not an ordinary person.

She stared at Luo Jiujiang again and again, until Luo Jiujiang almost thought she was going to draw her sword, then she slowly opened her palm towards him and handed him a handful of white salt.

Luo Jiujiang was stunned for a moment, then asked tentatively, "Is it for me?"

Xiaoren nodded: "You helped."

"Thank you, young lady." Luo Jiujiang understood instantly. Feng Xue had asked Xiao Ren to give him some salt for seasoning before. Xiao Ren might have mistakenly thought that he really needed white salt... or simply thought that he came to ask for salt.

The moment he figured it out, Luo Jiujiang didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He also felt sorry for Xiao Ren's confusion, so he politely said, "Miss Xiao Ren, are you hurt? Please sit down first. I wonder if you can tell me about Miss Feng Xue... your sister?"

This place was sparsely populated, and after Feng Xue moved in, it had become a forbidden place. Perhaps because of this, Feng Xue hadn't asked Xiao Ren to keep it a secret, and Xiao Ren didn't show any vigilance. She just looked at Luo Jiujiang, not understanding what he wanted her to say.

"Your sister often turns into a strange beast, like today?" Afraid that Xiao Ren didn't understand what he meant, Luo Jiujiang made a gesture to assist.

Xiao Ren understood.

"It's been a long time, longer than expected this time." At this point, even someone as cold as Xiao Ren couldn't help but frown: "Sister asked you to come back in seven days, originally wanting to avoid this situation."

So that's how it is. Luo Jiujiang let out a long breath. When he stepped out of Feng Xue's territory and was suddenly chased, he did doubt whether Feng Xue was intentionally "testing" him, but from the current situation, it seems that Feng Xue really just wants to avoid this "trouble".
