Chapter 106: Master and Disciple

Although the man in front of him had two legs intact, his waist was straight, and his appearance was much more handsome than the ordinary Luo Cang on the Seven Islands, Luo Jiujiang still whispered tentatively: "Master?"

His voice, tone, movements and even speaking style are so similar to Luo Cang.

The black-robed man raised the corner of his lip sarcastically and said indifferently, "You kid are so weird. You haven't even offered me a cup of tea, nor have you gone through any proper ceremony. I'm a complete stranger, sitting behind you, Master Gongyi, and yet you come up to me and call me Master—how would I know whose disciple you are?"

Luo Jiujiang: "..." This, this sourness, this content, there is no way around it!

Luo Cang had been the first to state that he didn't value the apprenticeship ceremony. This was partly to appease the rebellious Luo Jiujiang at the time, and partly because he was a bit eccentric and didn't take worldly etiquette seriously.

To be fair, Luo Cang wasn't one to keep score, so his sudden resurrection must have been provoked by something. Luo Jiujiang's gaze drifted towards Master Gongyi: he still remembered what he'd said when he'd wanted to take him in as a disciple, like, "Your master doesn't seem like a proper master."

But what exactly Mr. Gongyi had said to his master was a matter for future study. Right now, his own life was at stake. In the brief moment Luo Jiujiang pondered, the cold aura emanating from his master intensified even further. The surrounding students involuntarily stepped aside. If it weren't for Mr. Gongyi's presence, they would have called for the patrol.

Braving the chill, Luo Jiujiang advanced, kneeling before his master three times. Without waiting for Luo Cang to say anything, he stood up, lunged forward, and embraced his master with a reckless embrace, choking back tears as he said, "Master, Jiujiang is unfilial, unable to serve you... These days, while I'm away, there's not a single day I haven't thought of you..."

Zhen Shuangliu didn't say anything.

When Luo Jiujiang pounced on him, he had thousands of opportunities to beat this traitor who was worse than barbecued pork into a pancake, but when Luo Jiujiang put his arms around his waist and back and buried his face in his shoulder and acted coquettishly, he seemed to be under a spell, his whole body stiff, and he couldn't even utter a word.

To be fair, no one in his life, besides Cangjiang, had ever dared to be so intimate with him. In his early years, when he was at his most vigilant, anyone who came within a foot of him would most likely be stabbed several times with his poisoned dagger—no limit on the number of slashes, but he would kill them anyway.

But Cangjiang and Jiujiang are different.

One of them is his elusive lover, and the other is his beloved disciple who was lost and found again. They are the rare fresh and soft parts in Zhen Shuangliu's lifeless heart like a stone. Even if he just reads these two names, Zhen Shuangliu will feel a moment of relaxation, as if peeling off a lifetime of armor.

The body that fell into his arms was alive and warm. Both of them wore dark clothes, and when they leaned against each other, they seemed to be one blood. Zhen Shuangliu's thoughts drifted off for a rare moment, and he thought aimlessly: He's a little taller. Children his age always seem to be like sticks, but he's still got some muscle when I applied the medicine... Did he suffer a lot outside? I disciplined him so strictly, just to prevent him from getting into trouble when he went out, but he got lost right under my nose...

There was a gap of over twenty days between the time he signed the letter and when it reached me. I guess he wasn't very wealthy. I'd searched nearly every corner of the world and couldn't find any trace of him. He even changed his name. Did he get into some trouble? He was just a kid, everyone looked down on him. He had no spirit stones, so he had to endure some hardship along the way... Oh, and he lost his sword too. What a shabby thing that was that on stage...

He was in a daze for only a short while, then Zhen Shuangliu raised his hand hesitantly and touched Luo Jiujiang's face in his arms awkwardly. He was not like Gong Yizhuo, who was almost used to rubbing Luo Jiujiang's head. This intimate gesture even startled Luo Jiujiang, who hadn't seen him for a long time and was too excited to tease him.

"..." Zhen Shuangliu opened his mouth, but he was still not used to saying words of praise, comfort, and concern. It was his nature. Asking him to reply "Master misses you too" would be worse than chopping off his arm.

"Darker," "Thinner," and other heartbreaking and sentimental comments were brewing in Zhen Shuangliu's throat one after another. But after a brief silence, he ingeniously combined and condensed the two syllables of greeting, and whispered awkwardly and vaguely, "...thicker."

Luo Jiujiang: “???”

Does this mean he's thick-skinned?!

...It's really his master's style.

Being stung by these words, Luo Jiujiang felt too embarrassed to continue hugging her, no matter how thick-skinned he was. He had just rushed forward in a fit of rage, but now thinking about it, given his master's personality, not kicking him to the ground immediately was a sign of his deep love for him.

To be honest, the great news that his master's legs had recovered was beyond his expectations. If his master was still sitting in a wheelchair as before, he should have knelt down to hold his calves, so as not to make his master so uncomfortable.

Luo Jiujiang's eyes sparkled: "Master, please forgive me for once. I was so excited to see you that I lost my composure."

Before he even finished speaking, Luo Jiujiang was stunned. Even after he had released his hand, his master still stared at him intently, his gaze focused and warm, sweeping from his eyebrows to his eyes, from head to toe. This was the gaze of a deeply concerned elder. When a wandering child first entered the family home, he would be washed by this kind of concerned and longing gaze, mixed with his mother's ecstatic laughter and tears, and a slap on the side to brush off the dust of his life.
