The situation then took a sharp turn for the worse, completely beyond his expectations.
Losing the Mirage Pearl wasn't a big deal. Although he modestly claimed it was enough to buy a thousand of him, the reality was that if he'd cut him apart, boiled his flesh, and removed his bones, a hundred or so pounds of it would have been enough to cover the loss. However, the Mirage Pearl ended up in the body of a completely innocent mortal girl. For a moment, Yin Bansi looked at that mortal girl and it was like seeing his own childhood self.
...He can't afford to pay for this life.
All his efforts were in vain, and he brought this upon himself. He should have understood that from the moment he was abducted into the Mayi Cult, it was foreshadowed that he would forever be nailed to the loneliest platform, with his own white bones and bright red flesh and blood spread out beneath his feet, and his heart filled with darkness and stench that was ready to devour anyone at any moment.
Luo Jiujiang's rage was like thunder, his fiery words like flames. Yet, his heart was already frozen. Thunder split the snow crust, flames melted the floating ice, but only the vaster iceberg beneath the sea remained unmelted, even growing stronger with this self-inflicted drama.
When Luo Jiujiang brought the little girl who could have saved him from his early misfortune to him, Yin Bansi truly heard the sound of the ice breaking in his heart. Unfortunately, while a part of him slowly revived as he had expected, another part seemed to have died forever.
He felt relieved, believing that if the person he met was Luo Jiujiang, then everything in the past would be rewritten; he also withered silently in a place where no one could see, because he knew very well that whether it was Luo Jiujiang's sincere promise and friendship, or the child he would bring to the "Medicine" Peak, they would be shackles added to his inner demons again, reminding him all the time what it meant to indulge in his own selfishness.
A true academy student wouldn't be like him, struggling to bring himself to break his inner demons, and foolishly plotting things behind the scenes only to end up tying himself up in knots. Things didn't get worse because of Luo Jiujiang, but they got worse because of him being half dead.
Sometimes, Yin Bansi examined himself and felt a genuinely awkward limbo. He disdained the thought of diving headfirst into the demonic realm out of his own cold, defensive, and malicious intent. Yet, he felt lost in the academy's highly coveted position as the head of Medicine Peak. Every time he looked in the mirror, he had to admit his own lack of strengths, his only solace being a modicum of self-awareness.
He is a jerk who feels inferior to others.
Thunder rumbled around him, and beneath him, the cultists devoured his flesh and blood devouring him devoutly. Yin Bansi closed his eyes, not noticing that the knees of these "cultists" were also radiating the color of golden thunder. He was almost completely immersed in some ethereal and mysterious state, as if a cold, hoarse voice whispered in his ear, "Would you like to die together?"
Die together? Yin Bansi pulled the corner of his lips. He recognized that it was his own voice.
Perhaps he should have made this decision long ago, but it was a pity that the Mayi Cult hadn't offered him such conditions. Despite the vastness of the Three Thousand Worlds, they could only be divided into three main locations. The thought of the Demon Cult made him feel sick. The Righteous Path wasn't disgusting, but it often made him feel ashamed. As for the human world, it was just a wishful thinking he had, knowing full well he could never return.
However, death was so suitable. It would not make him feel out of place, nor would it make Yin Bansi feel at a loss. It was a permanent destination, and it was perfect for Yin Bansi.
"Yes." Yin Bandi thought to himself: Let's go to hell together.
He vaguely understood that what he saw and felt were nothing but hallucinations and illusions, but these ugly memories and defensive and unbearable thoughts were worth being buried with a half-death yin.
Thunder flashed with a mighty force, engulfing Yin Bansi and the vast illusion of his memories. Within the purest golden light, Luo Jiujiang could actually discern the lingering, dark, and murky aura of death. He had a keen premonition that if Yin Bansi were to be completely enveloped by that deathly aura, he would likely never emerge.
At this time and place, Luo Jiujiang was still ten feet away from Yin Bansi.
However, the distance of only ten feet seemed like a chasm.
"——Brother Yin, catch it!" Luo Jiujiang suddenly swung his hand like lightning and threw something towards Yin Bansi.
Yin Bansi was in a state of unprecedented satisfaction. Just as he was about to close his eyes completely, his arms felt heavy. He opened his half-closed eyes, wanting to see what had interrupted his calm approach to death. He was shocked and furious at the sight, almost as if his soul had left his body and ascended to heaven.
——Luo Jiujiang threw a child to him.
——The warm, dark and skinny little girl who was scared to tears when she saw his face. She was the little girl they picked up in the human world.
Beneath Yin Bansi's body now lay thunder, blazing fire, and rising deathly aura, the precursor to the Eighteen Hells. Every member of the cult in the memory phantom had their flesh stripped away the moment they fell within, and Yin Bansi's back was already touched by the scorching alternation of ice and fire.
"What a joke!" Yin Bansi always whispered in a hushed, sinister tone, but now, with his expression close to cursing, it was rare to see him in a century. He subconsciously raised his arms and lifted the mortal girl high, trying to lift her out of this golden thunder filled with danger and death.
The moment he struggled, the surging death energy beneath him slowed down visibly.
Yin Bansi resisted with all his might, and the inner demon's golden thunder gradually retreated. The lightning finally weakened enough to allow the mortal girl to separate from it. Then, almost instantly, a hand appeared from above, passing through the lightning and the girl. Without hesitation, it grasped Yin Bansi's hand, half of which was still submerged in the golden thunder.
