Fortunately, You Su has a gentle temper and little understanding of worldly affairs, otherwise he would probably be heartbroken and regretful for having trusted the wrong person.
Because despite Luo Jiujiang's eloquent words, this was his first time at Qinglong Academy, and he wasn't even as familiar with the roads as You Su. He'd even dragged You Su into renting the courtyard where they were staying. If it hadn't been Young Master You who he'd tricked out today, anyone else would have probably run away.
The courtyard was located in a popular gathering place for independent cultivators, and its size was quite pleasant. The furniture was also very new, and dust-removing talismans were already affixed to the corners of the walls, eliminating the need for cleaning. Luo Jiujiang glanced over the room, nodded, and signed the lease, leaving Yousu to wander around curiously.
"This place is so small." You Su commented in surprise, "The bedroom can only fit bedding, a table, chairs and a cabinet."
Luo Jiujiang had already signed the lease and was rummaging through his storage bag for the spirit stones for the deposit. Hearing this, he peered into the bedroom, mentally sketched the layout of the house, and said naturally, "Then I'll add a screen for you tomorrow."
He stuffed the counted spirit stones into the middleman's pocket and walked over to You Su, demonstrating the directions for moving the table, chairs, and wardrobe. "That's it. Swap them and move them a little further, and you can put a screen here, and you can nail a small bookcase on the wall... After you buy them tomorrow, you can move them yourself. You can do it, right?"
You Su nodded with great interest. If it wasn't already late, he would have wanted to buy everything right away.
After leaving the pavilion, Master You was like a wild horse, his every thought written on his face. Luo Jiujiang could see through his thoughts. "Let's make a list of what we need and get it tomorrow. You should change your clothes now, and then I'll take you to find something to eat." Luo Jiujiang looked You Su up and down and sighed. "If I weren't afraid your maid would eat me alive, I wouldn't let you wear this and flaunt it in public."
He and You Su were about the same age, and their heights weren't much different. So Luo Jiujiang found a pale robe of his own that he'd never worn and tossed it to You Su. What was more gratifying was that even after being raised like this, You Su still knew how to dress himself.
"It's so light, it's almost like wearing pajamas." Ordinary clothes wouldn't suit You Su's jeweled attire. After shedding all the accessories and the gold-rimmed beads on his clothes, You Su felt a rare sense of freshness. He raised his hand, touched his chest, and shook his right wrist, laughing, "I'm really not used to it without the fan and jade."
"Sure, sure." Luo Jiujiang obliged, heading into the kitchen to find a replacement for You Su. In less than a moment, he had chosen one and handed the rolling pin to You Su. "It's about the same weight as your fan. Use it as a transitional aid for your bare hands."
You Su fiddled with the cylinder, which was still covered in white dust, and asked, "What is this?"
Luo Jiujiang said calmly without blushing or beating his heart, "Qi Men Weapon."
You Su seemed to be thinking about something, and nodded repeatedly in agreement.
"As for jade, this is the only one." Luo Jiujiang threw half a piece of pickled mustard into the air. "Although the weight, color, and temperature are not much different, the smell is not good after all. Let's just take a look at it and don't hang it around your neck, okay?"
You Su grabbed the mustard greens in mid-air and asked, "What is this?"
"Food," Luo Jiujiang replied casually, not expecting You Su to toss the mustard greens around for a moment before taking a bite without blinking. His expression turned sour. If he hadn't been well-educated and didn't spit out what he had eaten in front of others, he would have probably spit out a loud "Puh" on the spot.
"...Oh my God, it's my fault that you're hungry." Luo Jiujiang was stunned. He quickly dug the remaining half out of You Su's hand and snapped his fingers to perform a Qingshui Jue. "You can even eat pickles directly... Oh, okay, I get it. You must have never seen this whole piece before."
The veins on You Su's forehead were bulging, but he still managed to swallow the whole mouthful of pickles. He then drank water repeatedly, and when his tongue felt better, he said shamefacedly, "Brother Luo, please forgive me for making fun of you."
"I'm not laughing at you, I'm just worried." Luo Jiujiang pinched his chin with one hand, as if thinking about something. With the other hand, he pulled out the rolling pin that You Su was holding and threw it back into the kitchen chopstick holder. "Why did they teach you like that?"
"My understanding is not high enough, and I have disgraced the old ancestor's good name." You Su's eyes were filled with complexities as he lowered his eyelashes. The corners of his lips twitched, but he couldn't force a smile. "My ancestors only wanted me to emulate them, to be a gentleman who helped the world and benefited the people. But I failed to achieve the desired result and ended up drawing a dog instead. When I was a child, I could make fish leap from the paper, but now I can't even depict a human soul."
"Ever since the last brother who fought against the bamboo for seven days was knocked down by the cold, I thought no one in the world would do such a stupid thing again." Luo Jiujiang said bluntly.
Seeing You Suwei's voice lowered even more at this, his features wrinkled, he patted him on the back and softened his tone, "I have a friend who was also an extraordinary painter and calligrapher when he was young. His talent is very similar to yours. He hadn't used a brush for years, but when he did, it was still like a timely help... He saved my life with it."
"That must be a very good friend."
"Yes, it's a pity that he had such a hard life." Luo Jiujiang said slowly, "I still don't know whether the blood-stained words on his body were shaped by his years of suffering, or were forced out by my half-dead breath. But the hardships did add a lot to his appearance... Ah Su, you may not know what sweetness is like now, but you may not have experienced hardship either."
As he spoke, he turned You Su's wrist. You Su's right palm was white and delicate, each finger as slender as jade. Most people use their right hand as their primary hand, lifting, touching, gripping, and carrying more often than their left, so their right hand is often half an inch larger than their left. However, You Su's hands were almost identical in size, their palms folded together as if they were rubbings of each other, their skin so delicate that one wondered if they had ever been used.
