Chapter 85: Fame

The battle between the two did not last long.

Although both were at the third level of Foundation Establishment, the archer and the swordsman possessed vastly different strengths. One was suited to ranged combat, the other to close quarters attacks. Even Xie Chuncan, a veteran of combat, was sent plummeting into the snow when confronted by Luo Jiujiang. This mere academy student was easily defeated by Luo Jiujiang.

But the situation was not particularly bad, at least it did not develop to the point where he put the long knife across Qiu Changyun's neck.

Because before that, someone had already forcibly "interposed" between the two of them, interrupting this fight, which, although the outcome was still undecided, had actually already been decided.

The man who separated the two was a black-robed man, his face covered by a silver mask. His tall, thin figure, shrouded by a flowing cloak, looked even thinner. He suddenly appeared between them, one hand pressing down on Luo Jiujiang's wrist, the other squeezing Qiu Changyun's shoulder with such force that there was no escape.

After a while, when he was sure that the two men's fighting spirit had subsided, he slowly let go and walked silently behind a young man not far away.

"That's enough." The young man who had ordered the incident to be stopped frowned and asked, "If you have any personal matters, you should report them and then go to the arena to resolve them. Why are you engaging in combat in the academy in broad daylight?"

The voice, originally gentle and soft, had been deliberately chilled, yet it remained pleasant. Luo Jiujiang recognized the person without even turning around. He sheathed his sword and walked over to the man amid the scattered calls of "Young Master" and "Peak Master" from the surrounding students.

"I'm sorry to trouble Master You."

"Brother Luo, there's no need to be like this." You Su's expression faltered for a moment at Luo Jiujiang's address, but he quickly understood. "You're a casual cultivator, you don't have to be bound by me. I don't mean to scold you... You know, fighting is just a fixed idiom, right?"

When he said the last sentence, You Su's voice returned to its former softness and lightness, and Luo Jiujiang almost burst out laughing.

Luo Jiujiang patted You Su's shoulder, thinking that this silly boy couldn't even see that he was afraid that people would think he was partial and breaking the law and deliberately avoiding suspicion. He didn't even have this kind of mind. If he wasn't the only son of the You family, he would have been torn to pieces and eaten.

"Although I have some friendship with you, Master You, I will certainly not use this as an excuse to do anything wrong. The Master of Chou Peak is known throughout the academy as a gentleman, and I believe none of the brothers present here would think that Master You would deliberately protect me. My conflict with Brother Qiu has been seen by everyone and has been heard by you all. I hope you can explain it in detail to Master You. I, Luo, will listen quietly and will not interfere."

After saying this, Luo Jiujiang calmly took a step back, really left the center of the circle, stood with his sword in his arms, and made up his mind not to speak anymore.

Aside from a few bad apples like Qiu Changyun, the students at the academy were indeed all good people. Everyone present explained the matter to You Su in turn, prioritizing the main points while remaining fair. Although their tone expressed regret for Qiu Changyun being their classmate, they remained impartial throughout their descriptions.

Listening to the clear and logical narration of several people, Qiu Changyun's face, which had originally turned red due to anger, gradually recovered, and became paler as time went on.

"Master You," Qiu Changyun bowed and said, before You Su could pronounce the sentence, "I was impulsive and violated the academy rules, committing a serious offense. I have acknowledged my mistake and am willing to honor the bet. I will admit my mistake and make amends to all the independent cultivators and this young man. As long as they command, I will kowtow and offer wine. I only ask for your forgiveness."

Luo Jiujiang looked at him in surprise. He didn't expect that this person was so flexible. He was just like a fake firecracker that would explode if stepped on, but now he softened his attitude so quickly.

Judging from the fact that he had just insisted on competing with Luo Jiujiang to the end and lost, this person's brain is not very flexible and he doesn't know how to take advantage of others and avoid harm. I think his personality tends to bully the weak and flatter the strong, and only in front of someone of You Su's status can he admit his mistakes so readily.

You Su tried to help Qiu Changyun to his feet, but he couldn't lift him up despite repeated attempts. Qiu Changyun was much older than You Su, and had already reached the third level of Foundation Establishment. If he tried to bend down, how could You Su help him up? After several attempts, You Su's expression showed a hint of pity: "To admit one's mistakes and correct them is the greatest virtue."

Knowing that Mr. You was a kind-hearted man famous throughout the hospital, Qiu Changyun was immediately delighted when he heard the words.

"But the academy has its own rules, and I can't just brush them off lightly. First, you bullied independent cultivators, then violated gambling laws, and finally, you even attempted to murder a classmate in the academy. All three offenses must be punished together. The charges are too severe, and I can't easily dismiss them. You are a disciple of Zhanfeng, and the punishment should be decided by your Zhanfeng Master. I will explain the whole matter in detail to Senior Brother Qiu and the Dean in charge of student registration."

Qiu Changyun's smile only half opened before it froze on his face.

Few disciples in the academy didn't know Senior Brother Qiu's personality. True to his surname, he hated not only evil but also defeat. Almost every day, he would swing his sledgehammer at the noses of defeated disciples and curse them as bastards. Under his influence, Zhan Feng grew up to be very competitive, which was why Qiu Changyun lost his temper so much over losing to a young boy.

Now, not only did he lose, but he couldn't even afford to lose and wanted to kill someone to vent his anger. Zhan Feng had always despised this act. If Senior Brother Qiu knew about it, he would definitely skin him alive.

Thinking of this, Qiu Changyun couldn't help but reach out to hold You Su's wrist: "I beg for your forgiveness, Master You..."

But before he could touch You Su, a scabbard slid in, blocking his move. Qiu Changyun turned around and saw that the hairy boy had returned to You Su's side, a smile that only a winner could give. "If you have something to say, talk. Don't touch me, my hands are dirty."
