Chapter 15: Reborn Again?

"Zhang Lanzhen, don't do anything foolish."

Su Yan's heart was in her throat, fearing that Zhang Lanzhen might do something rash.

Zhang Lanzhen turned around. The wind on the cliff ruffled her hair, brushing against her youthful face, making her look disheveled yet beautiful. Standing on the edge of the cliff, watching Su Yan rush towards her without regard for anything, a faint smile appeared on her lips, and she whispered, "Thank you..."

“Zhang Lanzhen, didn’t you want to avenge your parents? You don’t even know who the murderer who harmed the Zhang family is. If you die, who will clear your father’s name? Will they be able to rest in peace in the afterlife? Come here, don’t do anything foolish. Once you die, you’ll have nothing left.” Su Yan carefully tried to calm Zhang Lanzhen down.

"But it's too late for me to undo the damage. I've killed so many people; the authorities will never let me off the hook."

"No... If you trust me, give me your hand, and I promise I will exonerate your father."

As soon as she finished speaking, Zhang Lanzhen looked incredulous and seemed somewhat shaken. "Really?"

Su Yan nodded and answered her sincerely, "My parents were also harmed by villains. I understand how you feel right now. I won't lie to you."

Zhang Lanzhen was hesitant and indecisive. In fact, she was also very unwilling. If she really died like this, all her efforts over the past ten years would have been a joke.

Just as Zhang Lanzhen began to waver, Shen Yao arrived with his men, instantly enraging her, which had just calmed down.

“You’re officials, I don’t believe you.”

After saying that, Zhang Lanzhen took a few steps back, kicked a rock on the edge of the cliff, and watched helplessly as it rolled into the surging river.

Shen Yao turned his head to look at his side and met Su Yan's gaze.

Seeing the look in Shen Yao's eyes, Su Yan sensed something was wrong, feeling that he seemed to be planning to use force.

She immediately stopped him and whispered, "Sir, please give me a little time. I'll try to persuade her to calm down."

If Shen Yao takes a hard line, it will anger Zhang Lanzhen, which could lead to terrible consequences.

I finally found a clue related to the Dark Moon Pavilion, and I can't let it end like this.

Before the two could even make a decision, a sharp arrow flew through the forest with a 'whoosh' and headed straight for Zhang Lanzhen on the cliff edge.

Before anyone could react, Zhang Lanzhen was pierced through the chest by a sharp arrow, her face still showing shock, as her body slowly fell off the cliff.

No!

Su Yan was the first to react. She ran with all her might to the cliff and grabbed Zhang Lanzhen's hand before she fell.

However, due to gravity, Su Yan was also pulled off the cliff.

The cliff face was rugged with jagged rocks, and the river water washed over the stone surfaces, making it clear that the chances of survival were slim.

"Ah! Ah! I don't want to die!"

Out of fear of death, Su Yan closed her eyes and screamed. After a long while, she did not feel the excruciating pain she had imagined. She slowly opened her eyes. Because she was upside down, Su Yan could not see who had grabbed her feet.

With one hand gripping a protruding rock on the cliff edge and the other holding onto Su Yan's foot, the three of them swayed in the wind like cured meat hanging in a farmer's house.

"Don't move..."

Shen Yao's deep voice came from above. Su Yan felt as if she had seen a savior and said excitedly, "Lord Shen, please save them..."

Zhang Lanzhen had already fainted, and it was unknown whether she was dead or alive.

Shen Yao struggled through gritted teeth, seemingly trying to pull the other person up, but the weight of the two of them was like a mountain, and Shen Yao's arm felt as if it were being forcibly separated.

The protruding rock could not withstand such a large weight, and with a "bang," the rock broke and rolled away.

The three of them fell into the surging river like stones.

Su Yan was not good at swimming. The icy river water rushed into her nostrils, and she struggled desperately, as if countless hands were squeezing her internal organs, making it hard for her to breathe.

Gradually, Su Yan felt as if her body was out of control, slowly sinking, her consciousness becoming increasingly blurred, and the light in front of her slowing down until everything went black for a moment, and she completely lost consciousness.

The river flowed eastward, instantly submerging the three people, their whereabouts unknown. The shouts from the cliffside grew louder and louder, but were swallowed up by the sound of the river crashing against the cliff.

As the sun set, everything returned to calm.

…………

Night fell and then fell again, the sky turned a pale white, and smoke rose from the chimneys of every farmhouse.

A large and a small girl, carrying baskets on their backs, walked along the riverbank. The little girl, with her hair tied in two pigtails and wearing a blue dress, had accidentally gotten mud on her clothes while playing and hopped over to the water to wash them.

As soon as she crouched down, parting the dense grass, she was startled by what was in the grass. The little girl shouted, "Master, come quick! There's someone here!"

The man ran towards the little girl's voice and saw two people embracing tightly in the water.

As dusk fell, Su Yan felt her body warming up again. She slowly opened her eyes and saw a dilapidated wooden house and a strong smell of herbs.

"You're awake?"

Su Yan was still in a daze when she heard someone talking. She turned her head and saw a pair of cold little hands reaching out and touching her forehead.

They seemed to be checking her out, and after a short while, the little girl exclaimed in surprise, "Master, the beautiful lady has woken up!"

After saying that, the little girl hurriedly ran out the door.

Su Yan was stunned, her head throbbing as if pricked by needles.

Have I been reborn?

Su Yan thought she was dead. She looked around and sat up, her body weak.

Soon, the little girl led a man who looked to be in his thirties into the house. He was tall and elegant, with a refined demeanor, and did not look like an ordinary farmer, but rather like a down-on-his-luck scholar.

"Girl, you're awake?"

"Who are you?" Su Yan pressed. She knew that while she was unconscious, her identity couldn't be kept secret, so she wasn't surprised that people knew she was a woman.

"My surname is Hua Hanyun. I am a barefoot doctor from the countryside. This is my apprentice, named Banxia."

Where is this?

"This is the mountain forest of Pear Blossom Village. Young lady, where are you and your husband from?"

"My husband?" Su Yan was completely confused. When did she get a husband?

Xu Hanyun pointed to another bed not far from Su Yan, where Shen Yao lay quietly with a pale face, seemingly showing no signs of waking up.

Is this Shen Yao?

Seeing that Shen Yao was still alive, Su Yan realized that she had not been reborn again and was still in her original identity, and felt a little lucky.

Su Yan also recalled some details in her mind. It seemed that Shen Yao had been holding on to her the whole time while she was in the water. She never thought that she would be blessed with good fortune after surviving such a disaster.

"How is he?" Su Yan asked with concern.

"He's fine, it's just that he aggravated an old injury. He'll wake up after a few days of rest."

"Where's the other girl?"

“Girl? What girl? My disciple and I only found you and him by the river, and we didn’t see any other girls.” Hua Hanyun explained patiently.

Hearing Hua Hanyun say this, it seemed that Zhang Lanzhen was in grave danger. Su Yan couldn't help but feel sad. The clue she had finally found had been lost just like that.
