(7 Fresh Coins) Chapter 12 (Part 1) Overwhelmed
Xu Qi felt that he was destined to be a workaholic. Less than a month after returning from California, he received some very bad news. Wei Lan told him that Shao Yang had gone to Argentina to find that Miller.
"Why would Ah Yang know Miller's identity?" In his shock and anger, this question suddenly came to mind.
The moment he asked the question, he knew the answer. Wei Lan was not only his confidant but also Shao Yang's friend. It was entirely predictable that Wei Lan would go easy on him; he had simply been too preoccupied with Si Qiang's affair to notice this. He narrowed his eyes, staring at Wei Lan with an inscrutable expression.
Sure enough, Wei Lan paused slightly, then said with a look of grim determination, "I told him." He couldn't hide it from this young master, so he might as well confess early and get a lighter sentence—of course, that was just wishful thinking.
"You really dare to say that." Xu Qi's face turned pale, and he gritted his teeth as he squeezed out a sentence: "I've really spoiled you all so much that you're becoming more and more ungrateful."
You guys? Wei Lan was taken aback, thinking about who else besides him had recently offended the young master. He suddenly started pondering this, ignoring the other party's increasingly unpleasant expression.
Xu Qi, of course, had no idea that Wei Lan was so reckless as to be distracted at a time like this. He lowered his head, gripped his pen tightly, and tried to calm himself down.
With a "snap," the pen broke. Xu Qi calmly tossed it aside, then stood up and said to Wei Lan, "Go find him. You have three days."
Wei Lan stared blankly at the pitiful pen, then looked at Xu Qi's "kind" expression, and couldn't help but feel a chill. Wasn't this implying that if he couldn't do it, he would "become like this pen"? He forced a smile: "Yes, young master."
Xu Qi coldly continued, "Now pack your things and let's go."
"Yes!" Wei Lan nodded vigorously, then ran away as fast as he could.
Xu Qi watched his retreating figure, which seemed to be chased by a demon, frowned, and sighed softly. His two trusted confidantes, Qiangwei and Wei Lan, were completely different types, and their attitudes towards him were also drastically different. Wei Lan was an assassin, while Qiangwei was a bodyguard; both had always been his personal assistants. Wei Lan was efficient but cynical, while Qiangwei was much gentler, arranging everything meticulously, but their relationship with him was not as close as Wei Lan's.
Now it seems the reason they weren't close was that Qiangwei never treated him like family and never showed her true self to him. Wei Lan, on the other hand, was much more frank.
Thinking of this, Xu Qi suddenly shuddered. Not just Rose, but many others were not candid. When had he ever been candid himself? From the past to the present, everyone around him, or rather, everyone who could tolerate him, was incredibly resilient and excessively cheerful—like Shawn. He himself… had always kept people at arm's length.
He rubbed his forehead, feeling a throbbing pain. Twenty-seven years had passed, and only now was he reflecting on himself? It wasn't that he hadn't thought about it, but he'd never paid attention. Now he'd truly met his match—he didn't want to admit it, but he'd indeed been tricked by someone, and thinking about it was pointless now. His personality was already formed; it wasn't something he could just casually be frank about.
His mind was a jumbled mess, and the thought of Shao Yang only worsened his headache, forcing him to return home early. Wei Lan could, of course, find Shao Yang, but the aftermath was fraught with problems. The next day, he received a report from Wei Lan saying that they had found Shao Yang, but the boy still hadn't met Miller and refused to come back. He knew Shao Yang's personality; once he made up his mind, there was no turning back—he was stubborn and wouldn't give up until he hit a brick wall.
Fortunately, with Wei Lan watching over him, Shao Yang should be fine. In the end, he had no choice but to order Wei Lan to stay with Shao Yang for the time being and wait for an opportunity to act.
Just as Xu Qi was preoccupied with Shao Yang's situation, something even more troubling happened. A small gang in the northeast corner, "Qiyu," had begun clashing with "Longming." This seemed insignificant at first glance; such small gangs were common in New York, and in terms of strength, they were no match for "Longming." However, the fact that they dared to do this clearly indicated they had powerful backers, suggesting a significant force behind them. This was the real problem; the enemy's covert position was extremely disadvantageous, putting them at a disadvantage before the battle even began.
At a time like this, how could Wei Lan be absent? However, he didn't trust Shao Yang, and he couldn't directly instruct Shao Xiujun to arrest him—that would only make things more complicated. In the end, after confirming Shao Yang's situation, he had no choice but to ask Wei Lan to return first. After all, as one of his most trusted people, Wei Lan's role was irreplaceable.
