(7 Fresh Coins) Chapter 27 (Part 1) A Sudden Change of Events
It was 11 PM in the operating room on the basement level of the Lomine Group building. The dazzling array of medical equipment gleamed with a cold, menacing light, but the man standing with his hands behind his back in the corner had an expression even colder and more stern than the room itself. Dressed in a white doctor's coat, he appeared even taller and more imposing. He possessed a refined and handsome face, his snow-white skin contrasting sharply with his thin, bright red lips. Behind his gold-rimmed glasses were a pair of beautiful, deep, dark eyes that seemed capable of sucking away one's soul. At this moment, however, his beauty only amplified his sharp, razor-sharp aura. His usually smiling eyes, peering through his lenses, looked down at the man before him, a mocking smile playing on his thin lips.
"You can... try some other... methods..." A hoarse, weak voice came from the man in front of him, mixed with weak breathing. Just from his voice, one could tell that his condition was extremely bad. In fact, since being brought to this room several days ago, he had endured torture that was unimaginable to ordinary people. Now, his body was covered with needle marks and wounds, and he had no strength left. It was extremely difficult for him to even manage to say these words.
"I must say, you've impressed me. 'Tiger' Lian Sheng, you truly live up to your reputation. But..." Wei Lan nodded first, offering a casual compliment, then changed the subject, "How long do you think you lasted?"
How long? Lian Sheng's mind, already foggy, was struggling to process the information. The brutal interrogation had pushed his mind and body to the brink of collapse. But… he had plenty of time. After all, as long as he held leverage, his opponent wouldn't just take his life like this. That day… wouldn't be far off.
“I suppose when you went to church last time, you probably didn’t think you’d never have the chance again, right? Want me to take you to see it?” Wei Lan said deliberately, her words full of temptation. The other party was right; after failing to win him over, changing tactics was the wisest choice. Anyway, it wasn’t past midnight yet; perhaps there would be an unexpected reward in the church at night—seven days ago, Lian Sheng had been brought here by Yan Yun from the church, where he was devoutly praying to God. It seemed ironic that the Mafia never lacked faith. They would pray and confess to their gods, seeking solace—or rather, numbness—for their souls. Lian Sheng was a devout Catholic; today was Sunday, and the church was his only refuge.
The man, who had been on the verge of death, suddenly raised his head, his eyes flashing with fanaticism. His lips, covered in blood scabs, parted slightly, emitting a strange, eerie laugh: "Have you ever heard of...besieging Wei...to rescue Zhao?"
Wei Lan was startled, as if an electric current had flashed through his mind, sensing a dangerous aura. He quickly rushed out the door, ordered his subordinates to keep a close watch, and then took out his phone, about to dial Xu Qi's number, when suddenly the phone rang first.
He answered the phone immediately, and after only a few seconds, he realized that things were heading in the worst possible direction. A few minutes later, his face had completely darkened.
The Yao family was wiped out, the Fuqing Gang was torn apart, and of the informants he sent, only one returned alive, serving as a mouthpiece for the other side demanding the release of Lian Sheng. Clearly, Lian Sheng's backup plan had taken effect. Yao Jinghan was merely a pawn used by Lian Sheng; in this hidden scheme, she was the first to be sacrificed. Of course, Yao Yinxiang was the key figure in this incident; it was truly lamentable that this once-powerful North American underworld leader had fallen to such a state. This wouldn't normally affect Long Ming's actions, but the problem lay with the man currently with Xu Qi; Si Qiang's identity placed them in a passive position once again.
This was what Lian Sheng called "besieging Wei to rescue Zhao." Wei Lan gave a bitter smile. Si Qiang had been his colleague and friend, but after she left, their contact was severed because they didn't have any deep feelings for each other. However, now Si Qiang had become involved with Xu Qi in that kind of relationship, making the already simple situation even more complicated.
Speaking of Si Qiang… wait! Why didn't Xu Qi contact him immediately? Although it was almost midnight, Xu Qi should have received the message before him and immediately summoned them all. Wei Lan's heart sank. He immediately dialed Xu Qi's number, but no one answered. He then dialed the Xu family's butler, only to receive even worse news: neither Xu Qi nor Si Qiang were there. He suppressed the unease surging within him and quickly sent people to search, while he returned to his room—he had to start with Lian Sheng first.
