(8 Fresh Coins) Chapter 28 (Part 2) Escape

He came to New York to see Xu Qi and never expected to run into Si Qiang. Now that he said that, his lie about "seeing Si Qiang and Xu Qi" has been exposed.

Si Qiang frowned, knowing he could stop asking now, as continuing wouldn't yield any results. However, for him, this information was sufficient. The Mei couple were there, and he had accepted this coded message; even an idiot would know that Yao Yinxiang's troubles were related to them. He knew that Si Wan's affection for Yao Yinxiang was not as genuine as it appeared—in fact, the hatred Si Wan had shown in that instant after he told her about his mother's fate had left a deep impression on him.

He hadn't expected Si Wan to actually make a move; it seemed he had underestimated his aunt's abilities. Although he didn't have any deep feelings for the Yao family father and daughter, and even less of a sense of responsibility towards the Fuqing Gang, Yao Yinxiang was, after all, his father, and the man his mother had waited for her entire life. He couldn't just stand by and watch him be in danger.

He sighed heavily, then turned away and fell into thought.

Who sent that message? Jiang Fan? Or Yao Yinxiang himself? He went through everyone who knew the code, but still couldn't be sure. Since he couldn't pinpoint the target, he couldn't rashly contact anyone. Finally, he glanced at the boy beside him, who reflexively flinched. He gave a helpless, slightly apologetic smile: "Merlin, can you do me a favor?"

The next day, it was already evening when Si Qiang appeared before Si Wan and Yao Yinxiang. Si Wan, having achieved nothing the previous night, hadn't given up. She had come again that morning to continue pressuring Yao Yinxiang—the accumulated hatred in her heart was like aged poison, desperately needing an outlet. Upon seeing Si Qiang, she blurted out in shock and anger, "What are you doing here?"

She assumed that even if Si Qiang knew about Yao Yinxiang, he wouldn't just show up like this—he was currently deeply in love with that young master Xu, and Yao Yinxiang's place in his heart could never surpass Xu Qi's. He shouldn't drag Xu Qi into this mess for Yao Yinxiang's sake; keeping an eye on Lian Sheng was the right thing to do—after all, she had never cared whether Lian Sheng could get away with it. Furthermore, even if Si Qiang wanted to save Yao Yinxiang, he should have sent someone to negotiate, not just blatantly appeared here!

“Madam Mei, please let go of the past. A-Yuan certainly wouldn’t want you to be like this.” A man’s voice came from behind Si Qiang. Si Wan looked up at the sound and her pupils shrank instantly.

Jiang Fan easily restrained Merlin with one hand, his expression as serious as ever. The boy, on the other hand, tilted his slender neck back, his large eyes looking at his mother with a pitiful expression, like a frightened fawn.

Behind them was a group of former Fuqing gang members who were confronting her with guns.

“Xiao Lin…” Si Wan’s expression gradually darkened, her piercing gaze fixed on Jiang Fan. “You’d better not provoke me.”

She turned to look at Si Qiang: "You've disappointed me." She knew the other party couldn't really do anything to Merlin, but all her carefully planned schemes would be in vain.

Si Qiang looked at him, slowly raised her hand and pulled out a jade pendant from her neck, her tone extremely calm: "This is the only thing my mother left me. She never mentioned my father to me, but she told me that I must keep this with me."

Last night, Si Wan had exhausted him, and this morning he'd been worn out. Yao Yinxiang was completely drained. He'd only looked at Si Qiang when she came in, remaining silent. Now, seeing the jade pendant, he finally sighed, staring intently at it, his expression filled with sorrow: "Ah Yuan..."

Si Qiang gently stroked the exquisite jade carving, her eyes gradually softening: "My mother is the best woman in the world."

The lover she never saw again in her life had become a mirage in Si Yuan's heart. As for whether Si Qiang could reunite with Yao Yinxiang, she chose to leave it all to fate. Her life, like a drifting duckweed, remained dormant in the hearts of the two men she loved most in the world. Now, with the past being reopened, Si Qiang truly understands her mother's feelings.

Grabbing her neck and immobilizing her body, Xu Qi was brutally violated, yet unable to resist the despair filling his beautiful eyes. Lying quietly on the disheveled bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, Xu Qi knew she had personally severed their relationship.

He stared at the ceiling for what seemed like an eternity before blankly turning his head. Something unfamiliar on the bedside table caught his attention, and he unconsciously reached out and picked it up.

It was a small wooden figure. The expression on the figure's face was all too familiar; he saw it in the mirror every morning.

As if electrocuted, he jumped up abruptly. His body, subjected to the rough treatment, protested, but he paid no heed. The small wooden statue in his hand was like a scorching hot iron, burning his soul.

When he came to his senses, he was running wildly through the streets of New York, clutching the exquisite wood carving tightly in his hand. His vision was filled with the indifferent gazes of passing New Yorkers, and he slowly came to a stop.

He seemed to hear a sharp, cold mockery coming from the depths of his heart.

"He will never love you again... Despair... Foolish man!"
